Got the CRT. USPS destroys the FOURTH CRT IN A ROW sent to me by them. Christ. blakespot

It's on the way - mailed Monday from Florida (US) and I'm in DC. Surprised it did not arrive today. :-( 520ST, 1x SF354, SC1224, 60 disks - great condition. NTSC. blakespot

Got it pretty much worked out. Added some Molytone grease to the metal-on-metal spots. blakespot

It's a Micro Mate 520 STation. I've searched for one for 4 years. Finally found it. http://www.bytecellar.com/archives/000093.php I love that thing. Have any pics of yours? blakespot

This is an Epson mechanism, BTW. blakespot

I have one of the SF314's open. Looks very clean inside. It's not immediately obvious to me which part is causing the problem. What do I lubricate? And I assume I use grease and not oil? See pics of the open drive here: http://pix.blakespot.com/view/computers/atari_520ST/ Thanks for any advice here. (Is there a how-to on this somewhere?) blakespot

if you open it up, all the way, there is a little pin on the left side of the drive(drive facing you) under all the covering, that binds up and sticks. You have have to lube it up. Thanks. With what? Sewing machine oil or grease or what? blakespot

I received a bundle of ST-related items, including two SF314 drives w/ PSU's. Both, oddly, usually wont accept a disk - as if something is stuck in there. I hit eject hard, and occasionally I can get a disk in ONE but not the other. Is this a common thing? Any ideas? Thanks. blakespot

Scandoubler for 520ST for VGA screen use?
blakespot replied to blakespot's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I see TI 99. No SC1224 or some Atari ST, TT... Not nice to show such pics in Atari forum :-) I would go on some PDA in your place That desk costed 180$? My friend makes better ones for 60 Euro. On the foreground desk is an A520 STation system organizer. The 520ST and SC1224 are on the way, in the mail. Surely you see the two SF314's, though. -
Scandoubler for 520ST for VGA screen use?
blakespot replied to blakespot's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
You bastards. Too much talking me into it... I went to IKEA today and spent $180 on a FIFTH desk for my computer room to hold the Atari ST and 520 STation w/ original SC1224 monitor. Looks like it will be authentic hardware after all. No scan-doubled PC screen for space savings. EVIL, you are! blakespot -
If memory serves, SF314's are just standard DS/DD PC floppies - 720K, right? SF354's are single-sided at 360K. Given that, I assume writing out ST images to (true) DS/DD 720K PC floppies on a standard PC (I have a Win98SE PC) w/ a std 1.44MB floppy drive is an easy process. Right? What util do I need? Tnx. blakespot

Scandoubler for 520ST for VGA screen use?
blakespot replied to blakespot's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Hmm, I suppose an internal scandoubler is taking a digital signal and processing it straight. Good point. Can someone photograph a display showing an externally scandoubled image? blakespot -
Scandoubler for 520ST for VGA screen use?
blakespot replied to blakespot's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Like I said in an earlier post, a scandoubler I am using on my Amiga 1200 (internal) seems to do a perfect job, in that it just doubles the lines and does not corrupt the image at all. It cost 60-70 Euro from Vesalia.de. See a close-up photo of the Amiga's Workbench at 640x200, scandoubled to 640x400, here: http://pix.blakespot.com/view/computers/a1...ageViewsIndex=2 blakespot -
Scandoubler for 520ST for VGA screen use?
blakespot replied to blakespot's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Why do people keep talking like scan-doublers lower quality? I've got an internal scan-doubler on my Amiga 1200 tower and it just...doubles the image. 320x200 screens are 640x400 with 2x2 pixel "pixels," effectively. No noise or interference or whatever. Blocky, sure, but what do you expect? blakespot -
Scandoubler for 520ST for VGA screen use?
blakespot replied to blakespot's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
It looks like this might do it: http://gear.ign.com/articles/358/358098p1.html It accepts "21-pin Japanese RGB" in. Seems a cable could be built to convert the ST's RGB out to that in, and then it's VGA out. Anyone done this before, I wonder? blakespot -
Scandoubler for 520ST for VGA screen use?
blakespot replied to blakespot's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I want a SC1224, sure. And I'll probably end up with one as part of the bundle I end up with - but there's simply zero room in my computer area for this setup UNLESS I can put the STation under an existing CRT - and the only CRT on the desk without a computer under it is my currently-3-way-KVMed 19" Sony. See: http://www.bytecellar.com/qtvr.html Wish I had a shade more room. blakespot -
Scandoubler for 520ST for VGA screen use?

What does this mean? If border color tricks are in use? As I understood it, the Atari ST does not have actual overscan. blakespot -
Scandoubler for 520ST for VGA screen use?
blakespot replied to blakespot's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I've never seen one for the STs. I've got an external scan doubler/flicker fixer for the Amigas, one of these days I plan on trying to put a custom cable together and connect it to the STs. In theory it should work. Yes, all that is needed to get an ST working on an "Amiga monitor" is a cable providing the flag voltage. That said, an Amiga scandoubler should work fine as long as a custom cable is built with - what is it, 12v on one pin? The only way I've got room in my computer room for an ST setup is to let my KVM'ed 19" Sony do double-duty as an ST display. -
There are external scandoubler boxes available for the Amiga that let them work with standard 31kHz VGA displays. Do such devices exist for older ST's? Where can I find one? Tnx. blakespot

I have posted a little summary article about Time Bandit that links off to an interview with Harry Lafnear (co-creator / artist) at ST Graveyard. Might be old news to folks here, but anyway - thought I'd post: http://www.bytecellar.com FYI. blakespot

Atari ST "520 STation" system stand
blakespot replied to blakespot's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I bought one but sold it a year or so later with the ST. How long have you been looking? blakespot -
I just posted a message in the Marketplace regarding my search for a Micro Mate 520 STation, which is a flat grey-painted, metal system stand for the Atari 520ST. I purchased one of these from an ad in STart or maybe Compute! ST back in '86-'87 and am seeking another as I try to put together a vintage 520ST system for the sake of nostalgia. Any info where I can find one of these _specific_ system stands would be much appreciated. Thanks! blakespot

I am on a search for a flat grey-painted, metal Atari ST system stand known as the "Micro Mate 520 STation." It was designed pretty specifically for the 520ST. Here is a picture of it: I bought one in '86-'87 and am looking to find another. Anyone have any ideas where I might find one today? Here is a blurb from Antic magazine about it: Any help appreciated. Thanks. blakespot
