Storage space for textures is the reason. That's why Square defected to Sony.
and yet Final Fantasy VII featured mostly flat shaded polygons

You even have the ball-modded CV controllers. That's a heck of a collection, great fuel for more podcast episodes.
Yurkie friggin rocks... I am in love with my modded colecovision. I also had a Jaguar rotary controller modded by Nick Persijn for tempest 2000. we a show after the competition, and it should be up by the end of the week.

vgc is great, he's been at it for 15 years now. while i disagree with him from time to time, i know his tastes are fairly close to mine and i know he doesn't get take bribes from publishers.

tatton is at magfest this weekend, it will be interesting to see what he comes back with

kong mode with four players is a blast. its a shame the single player campaigns didnt include a few kong type missions.

Sega needed a hail mary touchdown to stay afloat in the console business against three other giant companies. The DC did well enough in a 2 console market, but would've been obliterated in a 4 console market. Killing the Dreamcast and going third party was a matter of company survival.

i havent talked to tatton in over a month. im guessing the train will start again after the holidays

yeah im on dp and other forums like sega-16 as well. but i dont post much these days.

glad you like it. getting on itunes is priority number 1 for 2013

i do not like cybermorph. i always hated games that mocked people for bad play... especially when the games that mock the player are not pick up and play type titles. the first example i remember of this was skate or die on the NES. in cybermorph, when green sinead o conner keeps asking me where i learned to fly, my patience for the game went to zero.
but i am not a total jaguar hater. i have a decent collection of games for it, and it will be featured in my next hexadecathlon in january in the form of tempest 2000 with a rotary controller.
that said, the jag launch wasnt very good in a saturated market. too much me too marketing and too many me too games... not enough tempest 2000s

Our rss isnt working correctly, so we havent linked to itunes yet. But that is inexcusable since we've been at this for a year now. :/

we need to revive video game roulette. we may try that as a video series on youtube er something

Does anyone know what font was used for this sega ad campaign? Arial is close but not quite wide enough.

after episode 1, i think our next best work was our trilogy of shows discussing console launches through history (ep 11,12, and 13).

thanks!
The quality gets better. Tatton, our tech guy, bought a sound board and some better microphones. Our biggest problem is getting several adults together to record episodes. On the downside (for you) there is some Final Fantasy talk in episode 2, but one of the foundations of the show is to disprove the myth that video games were invented in 1985.
Episode 1 is probably still my favorite, four of us share our war stories from working at video game stores.

A+

oh no! those dates may be too close to election day 2013 for me to take off work. but thanks for posting the dates this early!

the load times in the OS are brutal, but the load screens in individual games are quite quick. i will give nintendo the benefit of the doubt that times can/will be improved with future OS updates, but i can totally understand why somebody else would not give them the same luxury.
what we have here is the reason why i dislike hard drives in consoles, its too much of a safety cushion to deploy incomplete/buggy software.

Agreed. About a year ago, I saw a Sylvania Intellivision system on shopgoodwill's site. It was in the $30 price range and only had one bid. I was flat broke that week or would have tried to win it. Kicking myself ever since.
exactly... copies of earthbound will sell for 200+, but i nabbed a complete copy of world series baseball for the intellivision ECS in a lot of intellivision games for 50 dollars. 2600 stuff seems to go for less than market value there as well.

shopgoodwilll is great for finding under-the-radar items. shipping and handling costs vary from each individual store. a lot of the stores overcharge, but some are reasonable.

i stopped at a best buy last night, there was a bunch of opened cartons in front of the display and two deluxe models on the display. i picked up one of the two. i think there will be shortages through the holidays, but they wont be impossible to find.
and kudos to nintendo for shipping with an HDMI cable
