  1. oh, the other big news is bob smith is working on a new 2600 title. he kept details close to the vest, but the game is more or less finished and he is now adding features and fine tuning it.

dragonfire is one of my all time favorites, i hope this game will get a general release on a cart

  2. tod spent a sizable amount of time defending vcs pac man. i think he felt the internet was going to be there hating on his work. nobody really gave him a hard time about it though, and hopefully he will do more of these panels in the future.

the thing is, vcs pac man is iconic. the sound effects are still used today in tv, commercials, etc as generic video game sound effects.

the zinger for me, was the explanation that he sacrificed a lot to make pac man 2 player. ms pac and jr pac are one player.

  3. the show was fantastic. overall, i had more fun at this years PRGE than at last years CGE. i imagine the aftershow stuff is much better in vegas than in portland, but as a nondrinker that isnt much of a factor for me.

with all the of the presentations (the 2 atari keynotes were fantastic, i also enjoyed the NWC/Tetris documentary keynote), and the tournaments, i really didnt have a lot of time to shop and play games. i did go crazy during the first hour and picked up 10 of my final 18 Saturn games needed to complete my collection, so on that front the show was an amazing success.

thanks to all the organizers, i hope to make it back in the future. 2013 maybe?

  4. are either of them gray?

I don't have one of those yet, might be worth an extra 3 cents to me--in addition to the added scrap value of the extra screws on the 5-screw unit, it's adding right up. :D

there were no 5 screw grey zelda carts. i havent checked lately, but i believe the rarer grey carts are less valuable than the gold carts

  5. will there be another arcade road trip on friday?

The plan right now is that there will not be -- the road trip that we put together last year was something special for our tenth anniversary and truthfully took a TON of time and effort to put together. If there seems to be a ton of demand for it, we'll look into it again, but as of this moment, there are no plans to even explore it this year.

thats cool, i can now plan accordingly

  6. has a date been set for next years show?

Yes -- last FULL weekend in March. In fact, that is the same dates until like 2016.

If I ever get more than 10 minutes of free time, the announcement will be up, as well as the start of the announcements for the 2012 show! It's looking like it's going to be a great one already -- display-wise, we've already lined up even more people who will be filling up even more space than last year!

  7. Football is complex. I know nothing about any sports, yet I can pick up and play most baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, hockey, volleyball or bowling games. I've never found a football game that can be played by a football naive individual. Is there such a game, or is the complexity essential to the enjoyment?

You should try the original Tecmo Bowl for the NES.

  8. SMB 3 was the cornerstone game of the Nintendo World Championships that were done in various cities in the US -- and I thought that was in 1989. It was most defentily before the game came out. It was a major draw for them also -- even with the timers in place limiting eash play session and about a dozen copies of the game the lines were amazing.

    no

nwc took place during the summer and fall of 1990, smb 3 was released in february of 1990

  9. in the day, i enjoyed the T&E soft golf simulations. Waialae Country Club, Pebble Beach Golf Links, and Wicked 18 are three different games, but they are just 3 different courses with the exact same gameplay. (i believe they also released Augusta National in japan)

but these three games are extremely slow, and have been done on other systems

  10. to make a good "best of" list, we should probably include all of the candidates
