What I thought was really cool was getting eaten by the dragon, then letting the bat pick up the dragon. Then, if I were lucky, the bat would fly over the sword and kill the dragon with me still in it!

One time when I was playing this game in the 80's (it was the third option, where every object is placed randomly in the kingdom), I killed all the dragons and locked the bat in a castle, and after searching everyhwere, I could not find the key to the yellow castle. My suspicion was that it was in the yellow castle from the beginning. Has this happened to anyone else?

 

And is there anything I can do in this situation? Or if I accidentally lock the key in a castle and need to get back in?

I don't remember exact scores, but I remember marathon games of Missle command and centipede. As well as vanguard, phoenix, bezerk and yars revenge marathons

 

The problem with Berzerk is that sometimes it depends on luck. Meaning sometimes you start a level, and the enemy robots are just about touching you when you begin, so no matter where you move, you get electrocuted instantly. If not, they sually shoot you before you have a chance.

 

A similar thing happens with Wizard of Wor. When the wizard comes out in the end, it is random where he appears. If he appears right in front of you, you have a good chance of dying.

I used to play Adventure for hours. I liked to lock the bat in a castle and kill all the dragons and then have the kingdom to myself (seriously!).

 

I also liked Basketball. To make it interesting, I spotted the computer something like an 80-point lead, then I tried to beat it with just 2 minutes or some small amount of time left. I almost never lost.

 

And Homerun. I liked to throw wild curve balls to the computer and strike it out. It started out looking like it would be a wild pitch, but then I curved it over the tip of the plate at the last second, which often fooled the computer.

 

And RealSports Volleyball. It was always a challenge trying to sht out the computer.

 

And Donkey Kong was fun, until you got to the level on the girders where the fireballs just stood there and shook violently, making it almost impossible to jump them.

 

Also Vanguard and Megamania. And River Raid.

These are the only ones I can think of:

 

Circus Atari

Breakout

Super Breakout (did not own)

Nightdriver

Kaboom!

 

The thing that frustrated me was that I found the paddle controllers not precise enough to be able to do well on Breakout. Likewise with the standard joystick on Ms. Pac-Man, which was not responsive enough if I needed to make a quick turn in the maze. In my day, I broke a number of these after they got slammed to the floor when the monsters got me due to the joystick not responding fast enough when I needed to turn to escape.

 

Also, the only game that I can think of that required the touchpad was Star Raiders.

 

Are there any more games that I am not aware of?

Thanks! I used to love the Activision games, which were always superior to the regular Atari ones, until the newer Atari ones like Vanguard and Ms. Pac-Man came out. Well, some of them were stupid, like Laser Blast, which seemed to depend more on luck than anything else (the laser shots were so fast that they were almost impossible to avoid).

 

Keystone Kapers was excellent. Very hard for me to get past a certain level. And I had tons of fun mapping out Pitfall!. River Raid was great, until it broke. And with Ice Hockey, I think I once beat the computer 45-0 or maybe 47-0. Kaboom kind of frazzled my nerves as it just got too fast.

 

And with games like Skiing, Sky Jinx, Barnstorming, Stampede, and Grand Prix, the problem was once you learned the pattern to get a score high enough to get a patch, you lost interest in the game.

 

And StarMaster was fun. I sucked on Star Raiders, so I had more fun with Star Master, as it was easier to beat.

I believe this had to do with bribing the sheikh to get to the Black Market instead of using the regular way.

 

Hi, thanks for that info. I have done it that way, but the magazine I read gave that same info when it mentioned the long way to beat the game, thereby inplying there was some other way to beat the game really quickly when it stated there was a secret, fast way. But maybe what you said was correct and the magazine got it wrong.

Thanks. I definitely know I read there were two ways stated in that gaming magazine from the 80's, but they didn't give the easy way.

 

For me, the hardest part was being able to consistently jump from that cliff and parachute into the cave just under the tree branch. You had to do it just right or you would die.

Hi, I used to own about 20 activision games in the early 80's, and qualified for the patch on every one of those where it was offered. However, I could never take a good picture of the TV screen, which always came out as a red dot. So, how do I take a good pciture now with my digital camera, and can I still get the patches for those games? Thanks!

Hi, in the early 80's I was able to beat ROTLA for the Atari 2600 the long, hard way, but I read in a magazine back then that there was also a top secret easy way. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!
