  1. Wow this is simply amazing. What a great way to push the TI beyond what people thought it could do. So, is this game licensed? Not that I care....but if it is, I'm wondering how you managed to pull that off. If I can scrap up the funds, I will definitely want a copy.
  2. I love the fact that the fleaBay scalpers haven't latched on to the TI yet. I just bought my 7th TI-99/4A off eBay for $12 + $10.xx shipping.
  3. Definitely get the multi-meter and test your cable. You need to know if it's good or not for a refund if needed. I wouldn't charge you anything for the cable. I can make it for you and mail it for free. Just my way of helping the TI community. Just let me know.
  4. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think long term is going to get either my PEB running or find a complete one. Short(er) term is the nanoPEB.
  5. I can make one for you. But it would be this weekend. If you're interested, let me know.
  6. Hmm. That's odd because mine wouldn't even finish the installer. Perhaps the installer doesn't like 11.
  7. That would be an awesome idea. I have several books on the history of Apple and more specifically, the Apple II and B/W Mac. I'm reading one on the history of the IBM 5150 too. I was actually surprised how many TI books there are! But they are all from the 80's when TI was more popular. This is a shame. The TI deserves a great history and "reboot". I love the Apple II, the Atari's and Commodore. But it's frustrating how TI doesn't exist to many people.
  8. Hmm. I deleted the log files so I will have to try again this evening when I'm home. I vaguely remember a NoClassDefFoundError but don't quote me on that. I will have to look again. Is the source code available? I'm a Java developer by trade and perhaps I could find the issue and/or update to support Java 11.
  9. What version of Java does Magellan 3.3.1 (x64) require? I have Java 11 installed and I get some class not found exceptions on installation. I assume it's running on version 8 or so? But it would be nice if it ran on 11. Thanks for any info.
  10. My problem with 3D printing (at least all of the 3D stuff I've actually owned), is that they tend to "creak" and bend quite easily. Even when printed with thicker walls. I like the idea of custom laser cut wood...wished I knew of a place to have that done (or could afford to buy my own laser).
  11. Visual Studio Code is a great text editor with hints of an IDE. It's fast, open source and free. Plus it runs on Mac/Windows/Linux. If you've ever used Sublime Text, it will feel at home.
  12. I know it's too late...but I'd like to throw my wish lists in... Metroid (I actually hope to do this one myself....if I ever get started that is) Castlevania Ghost-n-Goblins Shadow of the Beast (F18A version...this one is a stretch but would be fun to see an implementation) Altered Beast (again, F18A and a stretch....but both the NES and Master System had it and the Master System version was pretty good).
  13. I have a PEB but it's empty and I don't have the interface cart/cable. I've always wanted to get that thing going (I got it for free) as it's in great shape. Other than fleaBay, is there a reasonable way to obtain these missing parts? Thanks!
  14. That picture...is....AWESOME!! So, I have to know....what was looking back at you? I assumed you killed it with a sword or magic. LOL
  15. Ha! Those are awesome. I guess I was too scared of the outlet as a kid. My brother wasn't. I remember catching him run wires from a doorknob to the outlet. I guess he thought he would shock someone when they opened the door. He was 6-7 at the time. Fortunately, I stopped him before the wires made it into the outlet. lol
  16. If we only had that game back in the day. We might literally still be using TI's in our office environments because people would have flooded the stores looking for them! Great job! Please tell me you're going to release this on a cart with manual and box!!
  17. I thought I would start a thread on mistakes I've made over the years with my TI-99/4A. Feel free to join in! 1983-ish (~10 years old) I spent HOURS and HOURS typing out some BASIC program from a magazine listing. I then saved that program to cassette. The next day or so, I wanted to add to the program I had saved earlier. Perhaps I didn't finish it previously. So I rewind the tape to where I saved the program. Then, I typed out the ADDITIONAL lines of BASIC and saved it! I guess my 10 year old brain thought the computer would merge the code with the previous. When I later loaded the program, I found that only my additions were there. LOL If I had just loaded the program first, I probably would have been OK. 2017 (GROWN MAN!!) I get my shiny, new 32K RAM sidecar and plug 9V into it. I actually dabble in electrical engineering and even design and made my own 6502 SBC. So you would think I would have enough common sense to notice the card did not have a voltage regulator....and have enough common sense to double-check the PSU I was using....but I didn't. I plugged 9V into it thinking it was a 5V supply. Fried my SRAM chip. Thing got hot enough to cook bacon. LOL Once I realized my mistake, I was able to fix it. But I still feel stupid. BTW, I've done the exact same thing a couple more times with non-TI equipment. When will I learn? Hey, I can at least say I wasn't as careless as Randy in school. Who, when 9-10 years old, wondered what would happen if he put a paperclip into an electrical outlet. LOL
  18. I was 9 years old when I got my first computer. The silver TI-99/4A. I have to admit, I switched to the C64 when I was 12 but I never forgot those thousands of hours cranking out BASIC on the TI and playing games like Munchman. I don't remember the exact date. Just that I was nine. Which, for me, would have been between June 18th, 1982 to June 17th, 1983. Back then, I was probably the only kid (or even adult) that had a computer within 10 square miles (not joking). I lived in a VERY small town. So I had no friends with computers and no BBS's or Internet. :-) Which means magazines would have been my only computer information. That, and a K-Mart that had a few TI games. During this time, I remember a few mags like Compute! Gazette where I would type in long listings of games and save to my cassette. Anyway, I'm rambling. I thought I would start building my magazine collection. More specifically, mags that I would have used when I was between 9-11 years old. I want to relive some of those memories and relive the experience of finding "new" information for my TI. I have a few in that era but they are mostly for Commodore and/or generic like Compute!. I've never seen the 99er magazine until recently so I bought my first issue (Nov 83). So, I'm looking for suggestions on what to collect. Any specific issues that stand out? Anyone have some mags they want to sell? Thanks for reading my ramblings and for any suggestions. :-)
  19. I've ordered a FG99 which I plan on getting a lot of use out of. But let's say I write a small game/demo that needs to save something. Like a save state or high score. What's the best way to do that from the TI-99/4A? Would I need some disk emulator or is there another type of device? I don't know much about storage options on the TI. As a kid, my only storage option was cassette. Which, BTW, I do plan on using but for a different reason. I assume you cannot write to the FG99? Thanks for any suggestions.
  20. Crap. I just bought a FG99 and now I want this. lol
  21. About the two PVM's....Yeah, I'm kicking myself for that mistake. Every now and then, I have buyers remorse (or guilt) about some of the crap I buy and drag into the house. I was probably in one of those moods at the time. :-) There are two recyclers in my area. One give "e-waste" to Goodwill. Goodwill will pick-n-choose what they want and sell the rest as scrap. The other just sells the e-waste to a smelter which ticks me off. I found a Sega Genesis in there one time. The guy that runs it thinks everything with a plug is a "hard drive". Me: "Can I pay for that Sega Genesis? I will give you more than the smelters." Him: "No, all hard drives have to be destroyed because they contain social security numbers on them." Ugh....
  22. I'm in the Chattanooga, TN (USA) area and was wondering if there are any local TI users around? I've tried searching the web but found nothing solid. And I don't do Facebook (is it even still around?). :-) Surely I can't be the only TI-99/4A user in Chattanooga with an internet connection. (and no, I'm not calling you surely). Thanks.
  23. What a small world. I literally just bought that book two days ago on eBay. Paid $14 for it + $3.xx for shipping. I hope it's a good one. **Wait** You said hardback. Mine is softback so maybe yours is worth more.
  24. My area is notoriously bad at CL and thrift stores. If I see 1-2 CRT's in a month (and I go almost every day), then that's high. I used to see them all the time a year or so ago. Only collectors and vintage game players like me want them. Which is a shame.
