My vote goes for Holger Bommer's design.

Any word on this? I am ready to buy.

Any word on this? I just downloaded the PDF and Word copies.
What about using a print on demand like LuLu?
Thanks for the great work!

I have to admit. I really love my 130XE. Especially that I have S-Video support on my 1084S WOOHOO!!!
-
Ahh...cool.
So, now I'm on a hunt for cool software that shows off my 130XE. hehehe
-
That's what I was thinking. What would you need to do in order to switch to 800 mode? Disable 64k of ram??
-
I just rec'd my first 130XE. While it was a little dirty, it is cleaning up very well.
I fired it up and everything works fine and I noticed a toggle switch on the back. There was a sticker that said " 130 | 800 "
I put it in "130" mode and loaded the 130 version of Mario 2007 and it works great.
My question is, was this switch normal? I haven't tried 800 mode yet because I am still cleaning.
There are no factory indications that the switch was normal. But, it is very professionally installed. I even took it apart and it looks good.
Thanks

Are you using APE? If so, you can load Atari executables directly without having to convert anything or transfer the files to a disk image. How? I looked but it only appears to support ATR and PRO images??
Misunderstanding but it's my fault... What I meant is that you should stick to standard Atari executables (XEX or COM format) or ATR disk images of either 90K / 130K / 180K size. It would be a bit too long and technical to tell you why you shouldn't use ATR games that aren't 90K / 130K / 180K so just avoid'em
hmm...well, I will see if I can just find those type of files. And feel free to explain in detail. I'm a programmer by day and amateur electrical engineer by night so I can take it. lol

I don't know why some people get so fired up about ROMS, I mean technically it's wrong, but come on, someone downloading a load of ROMS when they probably wouldn't have bought the games otherwise isn't exactly THAT bad is it? It's like copying your mates CD, it's hardly like mugging someone. But you should see how a lot of people react about it on Gfaqs.
It's quite surprising to see that no one is bothered about it on here.
Exactly. Does anyone really get hurt because I am downloading Pole Position for the Atari 800?
The law is the law but some laws are stupid. Like the one in Arizona that says it's illegal for fish for wales!!!

One of the games was Pole Position.
To recap, I have the following:
800XL (130XE will be here soon which will become my main Atari)
I use AtrUtil.exe to convert xex, etc files to ATR. This has worked for a few.
Lemmings (2005) doesn't work. It looks like the screen is definitely PAL because it fills the entire screen top to bottom when other games have more border.
Mr Do! is one that doesn't work. I downloaded from your site. It was an ATX file and I don't know how to use those. So, I used the AtrUtil to convert to ATR. I chose several different formats and boot disk.
Mr Do! is a "K" game.
If so, you should get rid of this crap and use normal files, either executables or "real" disk imagesI would LOVE to. But where? I don't have a real Atari disk drive but I have a real 800XL. I have even thought about buying a real drive and trying to find some real games from eBay. I just want to play but I can't.
I grew up C64 but I want to enjoy the Atari games too. I just can't figure it out. lol
Thanks everyone!

Tried that. Did it both ways.
-
Thanks for the comments guys.
Alas, I am still having trouble. A lot of the games I try simply don't work. I usually get a brown screen with a "k" and that is it.
Some games do work like the Mario 2007 and M.U.L.E.
Plus I have some REAL cart games that work. So I believe my machine is OK. So I don't know what the deal is.

Thanks guys!
IMHO, abandonware is up for grabs...lol

I have about 10 games that I found online (yes, I'm a bad boy).
Anyway, I want to play games on my 800XL. Some of the games I have found (Lemmings, etc) seem to load but the screen is all messed up when I play.
In the Commodore world, I am used to this because most games are PAL and I am NTSC.
Is there a similar problem that I am facing with the Atari games?
Hell, I will buy original copies of games if I can find them. I just want to play! lol
And without starting a ROM flame war, I personally enjoy playing games I find to see if I like them. It's not like I can go to Blockbuster and rent them.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Same here. Please don't let this project die. Or, if you aren't interested, release what you have as open source so that someone else might take it on.

AWESOME WORK!
I ran it on my 800XL and it works great. When "Mario" gets too high sometimes he fades out...I'm assuming that is the multiplexer fading.
VERY nice work.

OMG! I swear, I almost don't believe this entire thread. It's like too good to be true. Some sort of emulator trickery. :-/
I'm off to work now but tonight, I am going to fire up my real Atari 800XL and see just how nice this sweet piece of demo works!
wooohoo!!!!
Don't give up!

Thanks guys.
I think I might try and un-do what I did and see if I can get a good luma signal. Afterall, there's my brightness.
I might try and get to that this weekend. :-)

Ah...sorry fogot to mention.

This turnd out much better than I had hoped.Looks like it could have had rca out of the box

What else can I do with this thing

if its a 1st gen, you can overclock it

I am curious...what would be the benefits of overclocking a Genesis? Unless you ran custom software.
Wouldn't the timing of games get really screwed up? I dunno...maybe you like that. lol
thanks

Aw, gee, that's too bad.
Ah. Thanks for the very kind and helpful words.
You are a tribute to the Atari community.
Anyway, I followed the instructions on this page:
http://www.atariage.com/2600/faq/index.htm...=2600#composite
My chroma signal and luma signal are seperate rca connections that run into the Commodore monitor. My TV doesn't have S-Video so I didn't use the standard S-Video cable.
I have confirmed the monitor is good because my Atari 800 looks wonderful on it.
Any clues as to why it is so dark would be appreciated.
Thanks

I can take some pics if needed but basically the video is really dark.
I'm at work right now so I can't go into too much detail but thought I would take a shot.
I am using a Commodore s-video monitor (two rca lines...one for luma and one for chroma).
Thanks
