"Dragonfly" my version of the Atari 7800 SD cartridge

Not on the 7800 side I wouldn't think. In fact it will power on without being connected or plugged into the 7800 at all. -

Sounds more like a loose wire connection vs shorting but I haven't really looked down inside that 3D printed connector to know for sure. But yes I would say yours is an isolated incident. -
Wow cool! I was never that awesome at the arcade game so I hadn't seen or noticed it before.

This might have been found and fixed already and I haven't tried 2.5 yet. But I did have a note just stay sitting on the second level platform under Olive once when I was playing the game. Not sure what happened just prior to cause it. Maybe I lost a life just as it got there? But yeah instead of floating down it just stayed sitting there. The other notes were falling normally so it was the odd note out.

Can you be more specific on this? Far as I know the 3D printing he used is some of the sturdiest I've encountered. I mean the cart shell pieces are built like tanks. So the only way it could have been shorting was if the pins inside were somehow making contact with each other internally, but I believe his printing has the female pins isolated from each other. Was it shorting inside the plug or on the outside where the wires go into the 3D printed connector. I've not had any issue like that but I do note how loose that connector feels in my 7800 and if it were an issue, I would likely just solder on an actual 7800 connector to the wire harness he has created to be sure. Glad to see I'm not the only one with the label peeling issue. Surprised it is just inkjet printed onto photo sticker paper as I have a decent high end canon inkjet and it doesn't produce nearly that clear a result as these labels show. I thought they were vinyl printed labels. I also stated in my video incorrectly that the LCD appears to be OLED due to how clear it looks. But then I realized that if that were the case, the screen wouldn't really need a backlit panel for it. Oh well, still a very clear and easy to read LCD panel on it. -
Finally, I've made a new video for the new year! ITC# 73 went live this morning and focuses on the newly released Dragonfly flash/expansion cartridge for the 7800. As I'm sure most of you are aware in these forums, the 7800 has been sorely in need of a flash cartridge device for some time and especially with the recent home brew developments, such a cartridge has been needed more than ever. Designed from Rafat Jankowski who also brought us the incredible AgaCart for the Lynx I show you the amazing abilities of the Dragonfly cartridge for the Atari 7800! Thanks for watching and happy new year!

I haven't done any comp mods on the 2600 as yet, but I'm pretty sure you are correct in that you have the blue and yellow reversed from the comp av board to the 2600 main board. Reverse them and test it out at that point.

RJ, Don't misunderstand I'm loving this cart! I finished filming and editing a video on it over the weekend that is scheduled for release tomorrow. You are correct in that this information is indeed found in the manual and that was how I got most things working fine. You mentioned in a post previously I believe stating that the dual pokey couldn't be enabled along with something else and I thought it was the YM module? I just know that the FM demo you provided that isn't the Zanac one sounds off and is missing instruments unless I disabled or set the DUAL Pokey to Not Installed mode on the cart. I figured you had to use the smaller screws due to the design of the PCB etc, was just curious really. And you are also correct in that you do have the PAL and NTSC official games in their own folders and that is excellent. But as you also stated, the files in the HB folder aren't so laid out and I'm not familiar with quite a bit of them so I just try and run them to see what happens. A big chunk of them don't actually work as I assume they are PAL coded. Although I'm surprised Santa Simon doesn't work as I thought that was coded for either PAL/NTSC but maybe it is PAL only on the cart. Thanks again for the excellent work in getting this cartridge together and so quickly as well I might add! -

Have you tried to play it without the SegaCD attached? I assume it does work without it minus the CPU assisted player? -

That would be the first I've heard of a MD1 va3 having issues? The only differences between the MD1 va2 and va3 would be that the va3 corrects the issue with distortion on loud notes and sounds and I believe that might be when the actual Motorola branded 68k CPUs were starting to get used. Mine has a Signetics branded 68K. Do you have any other mods etc present in that MD1 or is otherwise fully stock minus the 40 caps you had to replace out in it LOL! -

I can't recall but does the 2152 have only one output channel or two? If so would this also provide stereo out from the FM? Might be something to consider to add an additional audio out jack to be used with mixing in with other sources or for video/audio capture situations. I've just done a video on the DragonFly that I will be editing up tonight but I do have a few critiques I thought I would mention here: - The small M2 self tapper screws are really short I wonder if slightly longer ones could be used to hold the shell assembly together? - The label on mine arrived already starting to peel up on the right edge of it. I would advise you print that section of the shell as smooth as possible as I'm guessing the sticker label is applied to the same textured surface as the rest of the cart? If not, then I'm not sure but I know I will have to use some spray adhesive or something on mine in the near future. - I would suggest asking the customers who are purchasing the cart, exactly which configurations they might want the cart to be initially. I couldn't get the PacMan XM to work with external audio until I set the RAM to Force mode and also found that one of the FM demos was sounding off until I disabled the dual pokey option. I believe I read in this thread somewhere that you stated that should be done by mine was enabled by default so I thought at first something might be amiss with my cart. - Ask if you customer's want the PAL based files or not on the SD you provide. Since I only use a stock BIOS 7800 it is hard for me to know off hand what will or won't work due to PAL games and demos missing the encryption that NTSC 7800s require. Since the screen only shows the first 8 characters of a file, it makes this more difficult until the program you selected it loaded and you can then scroll through the options to see what format it is in. Can you explain in more detail if the IRQs needed to be enabled or not? Didn't seem to affect any of the demos and games I was playing so I suspect this is mainly for developer use? It is an excellent product and I'm very glad to have mine in hand. I can see this pretty much always being plugged into the 7800 at all times since it basically covers everything gamewise we currently have and are likely to have in the future. -

You going to share how you did that exactly? I assume you have separate outputs from the cart since there is only a single channel for audio from the cartridge port? That being the case only the POKEY is being sent through your audio out in that regard? Still that is pretty awesome! -

Yeap, i removed the vid and just replaced it with the actual wav file instead from the vid. Nothing to really see anyway aside from a yellow bar across the screen when it plays. -

Video wasn't working so I just upped the actual .wav file capture from the 7800 instead. It isn't the full tune that is played as it just loops over and over, but you certainly get the idea. -

Here it Outrun captured from an actual 7800 I just finished up this weekend for another client. Dual pokeys are really something! DF7800_Outrun_2pokes.wav -

I will give this a try a bit later. BTW if you don't mind, I've been using a hex editor to add in the music titles under your copyright so that it appears on the DF screen. I do this since the actual files are limited to the old 8.3 format when selecting them on the menus through the cart. But once loaded, it will show title information on the screen. KEEP THEM COMING! I'm going to make a separate 2POKE folder on mine to store these in. -
NICe!!! It works and loops so far about 3 times without any lockups on the 7800 I'm using to test this with. For those curious, it is a very strange X serial number unit. But wow, I might also like this more than the FM stuff I've heard so far.

You guys have got to stop leaving us NTSC folks out of the fun?! I'm not able to listen to any of these I assume due them lacking the encryption key needed for stock BIOS NTSC 7800s? BTW... anyone with an NTSC 7800 and DF cart actually able to get Santa Simon to work? It just crashed on my 7800s here? Might be the same reason but I thought that game had been coded for both systems? -
How are you playing this on actual hardware? You using a DF for this? I can't get any of these to work on 3 different 7800s I've tested so far. Just gives the scrambled lines screen. Again, I suspect these were coded for PAL and don't include the NTSC encryption?
-
I've never seen a Euro or JPN model GG so I wasn't aware. Interesting and it would have been better if they just used the same PSU throughout the Genesis/Megadrive lifetime.
-
Well, I'm actually not able to test these because I still have a normal BIOS on my daily driver 7800 and your files don't have the encryption key on them needed to load them up on my 7800. Maybe it is time for me to look into doing the BIOS mod on my 7800 instead of on others for once LOL! But yeah....no dice on NTSC machines.
-
You mean a dual pokey version right? DF cart uses the external audio line in from the cartridge port and that is a single channel. So dual pokey would be used for just adding in 4 additional sound channels as I understand it, giving you the ability to code in 8 channel/voice music. But as DF #12 arrived to me yesterday, I can happily test this out.

I believe the wire ends I used in those (I got them from Console5.com btw), might have come from some battery charger device if I remember? Sometime back someone found an auction on ebay or the like where there were hundreds of these dead chargers being auctioned. They all used the same connector as the 7800 required and I thought console5 had worked out a deal to acquire all of them.

He is a member here on AA under the user name @MacRorie. Currently the TBA shop is in hiatus due to illnesses. Although I don't know if he would respond you could also try reaching out to the original designing and creator of the UAV @Bryan. At least to see if he has seen something similar and might have an idea?
-
But see I would think that anything like that would result in a full screen anomaly and not just a small section of the screen image doing it? If he can get the composite sorted and verify if he sees is there as well, or even if he can't get the composite working, then it points to a possible issue with the UAV itself in someway. I've got one now that displays a super dark picture that I've been meaning to mail back to MacRorie for sometime to check it out and possibly get replaced out. Just haven't done it as I've been busy with other stuff.
