I feel the same way about Banjo Kazooie...Nothing like a good 3D platformer to sooth the soul.

    3. Razzie.P

Kind of ashamed to admit that I haven't played Banjo Kazooie games yet.  I have them on N64, and XBox via the Rare collection, and they're always on my "need to play those soon" list in my mind, but haven't done it yet.

    4. SlidellMan

You should do so, they're two of the best games for the system. That, and they have aged far better than most games that console generation.

  2. “We're the Mario Brothers, and plumbing's our game.  We're not like the others who get all the fame”

… uh, what plumbers are more famous than Mario and Luigi?

    1. Reaperman

That show ruined my ability to hear any version of the 1-1 tune without also hearing Lou Albano singing along.  'Swing your arms, from side to side...'

  3. A cold rainy day, no work, a big box of Fruity Pebbles, and Wizards and Warriors on NES + 15" CRT combo.  Great day so far!

    1. Wally1

I prefer sugar smacks, thank you very much.

  4. A user on this site has a profile pic of a coffee cup with animated smoke/steam rising from it.  Any idea who?  I've seen it several times, and would like to use it as a reference for game art, but can't find it now.

I used to use a coffee cup with Smithore (M.U.L.E.) on it....

    4. Razzie.P

      Cafeman was it.  Thanks!

  5. Any help for this kid's Minecraft woes would be greatly appreciated!

  6. Anyone happen to know the radius for the corners on NES Cartridge labels?  I'm testing a few label designs and plan to pick up a simple corner-cutting tool, but not sure what size to get.  My google searches are coming up short as well.

  7. Anyone know a place (or seller) where I can buy a couple hundred NES Styrofoam inserts?   Websites I found via Google won't reply, and sellers on eBay seems to be sold out.

    1. GoldLeader

Maybe you could just search for "styrofoam inserts" (leaving out the NES) then look for the proper size.  Just a suggestion.  I don't know if it will work.

  8. As I’ve said for the past 20 revisions – It’s finished and I’m not changing anything else!   … and I meant it every time

I've had it so long, I don't even notice it anymore.  But the subject makes me want to go grab a cup of coffee!

    3. GoldLeader

Cool!  Is your game something we can see, or play, or buy yet?

    4. Razzie.P

Hopefully within the next week or 2.  Just waiting for the printshop to deliver the goods.

  9. Bluehost renewal price last year was 17.99 per year.  This year --- 611.64 for 3 years.  No changes were made.  WTF?

  10. Bought a garden hose called NeverKink.  Within 10 mins of use, it kinked.  I feel deceived.

    1. Zoyous

Just be glad you didn't get a NeverExplode!

    2. DragonGrafx-16

      sounds kinky lol

    3. jd_1138

      They really "got you".

  11. Commissioning an artist to animate an 8-bit sprite, 16 x 16 pixels, between 10 – 20 frames.  What’s a good price to offer?  Don’t want to lowball anyone, but have no idea what the going rate is for something like that.  Google searching placed it somewhere between 10 bucks and my firstborn.  Thanks in advance!

    1. RockyRaccoon

It's gonna depend on how detailed you want the sprite to be, and how complicated the animation is, really.  What exactly are you wanting done?

    2. Razzie.P

Nothing really complicated. Basically a little square guy walking in 4 directions, 2 - 4 frames of animation in each direction.  16 x 16 pixels, 3 colors.  Animation like the main character in "Minit" is the best example that comes to mind.  We have the character design already, just not sure what $$ to offer the artist.  He put it in my court, and I don't wanna lowball anyone, as I mentioned.

    3. DragonGrafx-16

Top down right? 16x16 is pretty small and should not take much time to do. $10-20 ($1 per frame?) would seem about right to me for just a single sprite. Obviously if you were having them design the sprite it would be more. I know it would only take me about an hour to do, less if you already had a base sprite. But I'm used to using like 16 colors max (and 64x64 for most things) on sprites, 3 would be harder.

  12. Decided to give "Legendary Axe 2" a shot.   Two levels in – I’ve had a sword.  I’ve had a chain type weapon.  And a (better, I assume) sword.  But not an Axe in sight.   Not only is it legendary, it’s quite an elusive critter, I suppose.

      @save2600 So it's like Deathstalker 2?

    3. NE146

I bought Legendary Axe 2 the minute it came out. I eventually could finish it very easily but let me just say that I hardly remember anything about that game.  Kind of shows how unremarkable it was since I remember Legendary Axe easily despite never playing it in the same amount of time.

    4. GoldLeader

I like it.   I believe the name in Japanese was something else...So "Legendary Axe" worked for the first one, but not the sequel...

  13. Figured it was time for a display name change to bring my profile more in line with gaming/other site usernames

  14. First game finished for 2020 -- The Witcher on PC.  Also, if I ever need to apply for a job as "errand boy," you'd better believe I'm gonna use that as my main qualification.

  15. From the PS5 setup manual -- “Use a coin or similarly shaped object to tighten the screw.”   Yeah, my go-to tool for that would have been a screwdriver, but I guess I’m old fashioned.

Real video game consoles like the Viking X most probably had no screws to tighten.

    3. GoldLeader

^That thing looks like it should play Famicom games with an Amon Amarth soundtrack!

    4. GoldenWheels

Oh you need something screwed or unscrewed? Hold on, my wife will grab her favorite bent-tip butter knife from the drawer...

  16. Gonna upload a cover photo to my profile when I get home.  Anyone know what size is a good fit, if it even matters?

  17. Good job, Amazon!  The $150.00 book set was damaged, but at least you save a few cents worth of bubble wrap!

^ ... until or unless they decide to yank them from your digital library.

    3. Keatah

I DEMAND the HIGHEST quality of goods I get from amazon. One tiny itsy-bitsy scratch and back it goes. 5 times if necessary. Fuck the environment and gas wasted in transport and time spent with restocking or product destruction. Their problem.

    4. Flojomojo

They're usually great. But last week they packed my new swim goggles under 20lbs of cat litter, with predictable results. They made it right but was a needless  hassle for all involved.

  18. I don't normally ooh and ahh over "special editions" of games that have a lot of junk I wouldn't buy otherwise, but man... those Castlevania sets on LRG are really tempting.

  19. I hate clicking on an article (to read) but finding a video instead.

    1. Cobra Kai

      Cobra Kai

When it comes to Video Games, that includes this forum or other online articles, I still prefer the old school way of READING about the topic, with accompanying pictures. It's become a lost art form. Most people seem to just do the 'post a video and run' method.

    2. ClassicGMR

My favorite 🤮 is getting a video article then a WORD FOR WORD written transcript underneath it. Who gets paid to do this??

    3. DoctorSpuds

Or if it's a "top whatever number" list article and its a slideshow that takes you to a new page each time and each new page is 85% ads, and the 'next' button is tiny and located at the bottom of the page after six or seven sound-on video ads. Sorry lads, AdBlock's on for that crap if I don't back out immediately.

  20. I starting reading my Conan comics again, and found myself getting a bit miffed when the price on the cover changed from 15 cents to 20 cents.

Conan the Barbarian (the one that started in 1970 or so)   I've never considered myself an active collector of anything, just bought whatever I wanted to read/watch/play etc, but for comics, I have managed to horde up complete collections of Conan the Barbarian, Savage Sword of Conan, and Groo the Wanderer <--- kinda like Conan I suppose  😄

    3. Razzie.P

The Savage Sword magazine was pretty special to me as a kid.  I'm not sure if the "magazine" format allowed them to get around the comic code restrictions or how they pulled it off, but I as blown away but how much those stories really captured the characters and world that I imagined when I read Howard's original stories.  The nudity and savage imagery was far and above what they were able to get away with in the comics books.

    4. GoldLeader

Haha Malrak,...I So remember when comics were a quarter, the same as a candy bar...Sometimes I'd get a comic after supper instead of a candy bar, which we often did if we went out to dinner (not all the time mind you).   And I remember being almost perplexed the day I noticed both went up to 35 cents!

  21. I wish I could start taking Pac-Man to the movies with me.

  22. I've spend the past hour using my PC to run PCSX2 to emulate a PS2, which I used to play Intellivision Lives, emulating an Intellivision, allowing me to play Night Stalker.  All with an XBox One controller.   I think I've stumbled on a premise for an Inception sequel.

    1. NE146

I think you're supposed to start that sentence with "Yo dawg,"

    2. GoldLeader

      That's Awesome!

Reminds me of this flyer I have.  It's a full color ad for Donkey Kong on Atari 2600.   (Paraphrasing here) It's:   COLECO presents NINTENDO's Donkey Kong for ATARI 2600, from SEGA Distribution.

  23. In the mood for a racing game, so I figured I’d give Forza Horizon 4 (Xbox One X) a shot.  So far, my experience in the first couple of hours has been about 55% load screens, 35% driving around to get to the events, and about 5% actually racing.

    edit:  It's actually part 4 I'm playing, not 2.

Horizon Chase Turbo is on sale on Steam for 6 bucks.  Looks kinda ok

    3. Razzie.P

Horizon Chase Turbo is great, in my opinion!  I have it on PS4 (think it was a PS+ game at some point) and love it.

    4. Tickled_Pink

Pretty much why I hate the Horizon series and why I don't understand why it's got to game no. 4. I guess it's for those who think GTA and Need for Speed are racing simulators.

  24. Life’s 2 big “impossibles”, so it seems -  following the arrows in a parking lot, and simply ignoring a troll online.   People just can’t seem to do either of these.

  25. Me playing around with GamePass is a lot like me playing around with Rom collections.  I keep sampling everything there, but never actually playing anything for more than a few mins.

    1. masschamber

sign up for the microsoft rewards,  and the gamepass rewards and it does give some things to chase after.  You can get a whopping 5 cents a day for achievements plus quite a few other things that end up like 5 dollars a month in reward credits.  Basically I  use it as a structure to find a game I enjoy and try for an achievement a day.
