  1. Ever play a game you just can't figure out if you like? Really on the fence with Tanglewood at the moment.

I used to apply that criticism to games I somewhat enjoyed, but then couldn't reach a save point. I'd quit PS2 games because I didn't have an hour and a half at my disposal to play...If it Auto Saved or had frequent save points it would have been fine ...

  2. New GOT had it's moments and was good overall, but the camera work jumped around enough to make a "bourne" movie jealous.

Some of those give me the biggest fits. Dozens of hours on Doom (2016) and Witcher 3 on highest settings, never a crash that I can recall. 15 minutes of Ys: Oath in Felghana or newly gotten Hat in Time, and stuff goes crazy with what their support forums refer to as "known issues - no resolution"

    3. Flojomojo

My issue is reading about and buying games is a lot more convenient and takes less time than actually playing them.

Yep. I love my PS4 Pro + VR, and despise my i7 + 1080GTX for this very reason.

No way. Gotta play Ys 6 next on PC. Playing 7 first might upset the balance of space/time and all that jazz.

@deepthaw - Chronicles on PC is a great remake. It keeps everything about the originals intact, for better or worse, but updates sound/graphics/dialog and a few quality of life type of tweaks. If you didn't already like the games, I don't figure it'll change any opinions, but I had a blast replaying with a few updates, then tearing through the boss rush modes.

Recipes are awful for this now! I just want the recipe, not to have to scroll through seven pages of your mom-blog about how your kids just LOOOOOVE it and 175 Instagram photos because you need an attention fix. Just give the friggin ingredients up front.

@John Stamos Mullet  I wouldn't yet declare a winner for that contest.  Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, 4chan, 8chan, reddit, and the speedrunning community have all been in contention for the top spot.

      John Stamos Mullet

All of those are terrible too, sure. But YouTube is the only one where people have tried to turn the terrible crap they post on there into a "career". The only qualification for these chuckleheads to become a professional reviewer of (insert pop culture item here) is to have $30 to buy a webcam, and the shamelessness to record their hardcore edgelord opinions which are shared by the worst dregs of humanity.

  9. Shinobi Arcade – recently, I made a personal goal to master the arcade version of Shinobi.  Today, I’m happy to announce that I’ve become 100% at peace with the fact that one should be flexible with such goals.  In other words, fu*k that!

I can get to the end boss on Mission 4 consistently with one credit.  Magic gets him down to a single hit, and sometimes I can land that hit and move on, other times nope.  Funny thing about Mandara, though… I can get there with a single life, but I can NEVER beat that boss until I’ve died a couple of times.  I’m not sure what’s the deal, but it seems impossible until it has slapped me around a bit.   Switch version (Sega Ages) is great!  The “cheat” features on that helped me learn the placements.

    4. retrorussell

      retrorussell

That Mandara boss is a snap if you get right up to the columns and use your magic.  The columns will overtake you as the magic goes off, then you get bumped backwards in front of the statue head.  Destroy it before it can shoot fireballs.  Easy!  Too bad this doesn't work on the Master System (can't use magic on bosses).

    1. Cobra Kai

      Cobra Kai

Yes. And comments from random users and even bots are considered verifiable sources to back-up outlandish claims. Its all a feedback loop. It works like this: make up fake story, get users to comment = we have verification! Then on the TV news "here's what is trending on Twitter"...even more verification! Easy peasy

  15. New iPhone update killed the wifi on my daughter's phone.  Not sure if I hate Apple or just hate this trend of "every device needs to be updated to the point of virtual failure" these days.

    1. save2600

      save2600

Apple's been screwing up so many basic things with their updates for years. How some of this crap goes undetected before release defies reason. Yes, *some* of the bugs eventually get fixed, but typically have to wait until so many more updates before they finally address them.

    2. Albert

      Albert

Apple has made quite a few missteps over the past decade.  Their hardware and software have gotten worse, although it looks like recently they've started to turn around their hardware (the latest MacBook Pro is a nice improvement, as is the new Mac Pro, even if it's stupidly expensive).  Their software is much buggier than it used to be, no doubt about it.

  16. So I can order a 3 month Air Filter on Amazon (for the furnace) and add a 4 year protection plan for $9.99.  How's a thing like that work?

    1. jd_1138

      jd_1138

It probably doesn't count for "consumable items" like filters.  I wonder if Amazon would actually keep sending new filters when you return the old ones for being clogged up.  :)

    1. Cobra Kai

      Cobra Kai

When it comes to Video Games, that includes this forum or other online articles, I still prefer the old school way of READING about the topic, with accompanying pictures. It's become a lost art form. Most people seem to just do the 'post a video and run' method.

    2. ClassicGMR

      ClassicGMR

My favorite ? is getting a video article then a WORD FOR WORD written transcript underneath it. Who gets paid to do this??

    3. DoctorSpuds

      DoctorSpuds

Or if it's a "top whatever number" list article and its a slideshow that takes you to a new page each time and each new page is 85% ads, and the 'next' button is tiny and located at the bottom of the page after six or seven sound-on video ads. Sorry lads, AdBlock's on for that crap if I don't back out immediately.

  18. Commissioning an artist to animate an 8-bit sprite, 16 x 16 pixels, between 10 – 20 frames.  What’s a good price to offer?  Don’t want to lowball anyone, but have no idea what the going rate is for something like that.  Google searching placed it somewhere between 10 bucks and my firstborn.  Thanks in advance!

    1. RockyRaccoon

      RockyRaccoon

It's gonna depend on how detailed you want the sprite to be, and how complicated the animation is, really.  What exactly are you wanting done?

    2. Razzie.P

      Razzie.P

Nothing really complicated. Basically a little square guy walking in 4 directions, 2 - 4 frames of animation in each direction.  16 x 16 pixels, 3 colors.  Animation like the main character in "Minit" is the best example that comes to mind.  We have the character design already, just not sure what $$ to offer the artist.  He put it in my court, and I don't wanna lowball anyone, as I mentioned.

    3. DragonGrafx-16

      DragonGrafx-16

Top down right? 16x16 is pretty small and should not take much time to do. $10-20 ($1 per frame?) would seem about right to me for just a single sprite. Obviously if you were having them design the sprite it would be more. I know it would only take me about an hour to do, less if you already had a base sprite. But I'm used to using like 16 colors max (and 64x64 for most things) on sprites, 3 would be harder.

  19. Any suggestions for a nice sprite/tile creation tool for a kid to use who's wanting to create 8/16 bit era graphics?

    1. Flojomojo

      Flojomojo

RPGmaker would be neat to try. I think it's expensive but Humble Bundle has had it for next to nothing more than once.

    2. DragonGrafx-16

      DragonGrafx-16

I use Pyxel Edit to make tiles and Piskel for most sprites (mostly because it has a great mirror tool which Pyxel edit lacks).

      save2600

Wow, almost tempted myself at that price. What's TopCashBack though? I added it to the cart, went to check out and it said I'll save $.40 for picking it up. lol

    2. Razzie.P

      Razzie.P

TopCashBack is a websit that gives you small percentages back for buying at walmart/target/amazon, etc. Usually 1 - 5 percent back, but they frequently have offers like "spend $25 and get an extra $5 back," which is what I used for the C64. I signed up and started using it when Star Wars Episode 7 released. They gave 100% of the price back, and that pulled me in

      I think that's a legit gripe.
I went through the same thing trying out "Super Lucky's Tale" on Xbox Game Pass.

The opening is, of course, an unskippable movie that seriously looks like it's made for little kids or creepy furries.

Nevertheless, around the 5 minute mark I promptly quit the game and uninstalled it.
