  1. Not all of them, no. Just the ones that you cherrypick to try to prove a point. So that statement is a wee bit of a lie, unless you have a very strange idea of "old as balls." Yes, I mentioned games from PS2 and Gamecube as possible "first times" that I've really been blown away by a game. But I also mentioned a few more that came later, with titles from late 2016, 2019, and 2 titles from 2021. So no, it doesn't dovetail perfectly at all, unless you continue to cherrypick as needed. Yeah, I know you would. I agree completely. I have no problems at all with that phrase. I believe that they are, yes. I adore Galaxy 2 and Demons Souls is quite a special game to me, but I personally feel that each of those brings something equally as amazing, in their own respective ways, that we got from Galaxy 2, Demons Souls, and Breath of the Wild - allegedly. But really though, my comment and titles mentioned wasn't even about what I like, what you like, and the merits of each one. It's was pretty much just a reply to your comment of "You are not going to find something that blows you away the way you were the first time you saw Star Raiders, or Prince of Persia, or Alone in the Dark, or Super Mario 64, or whatever.." I did find something (many, many somethings actually) that blew me away far more than Star Raiders, Prince of Persia (original or 2003 version, by the way? 😁) Alone in the Dark, and Super Mario 64. And I mentioned titles "old as balls" through 2021 as some examples of those somethings.
  2. Sounds like some words of wisdom I've heard somewhere before --
  3. Well, my point was that not all of us were even "blown away" by the games you you mentioned when you said "you're not going to find something that blows you away like..." so some of us can, will, and do find newer titles than those. And I mentioned a couple of titles starting with PS2 through modern games on PS5 that had that effect on me personally. I did "proffer" newer titles as well that really blew me away - a couple from PS4 and a couple from PS5 - but I guess you missed those or they didn't work with what you're trying to say there, or something. Sure. I'm assuming you're asking what games from this decade that blew me away, personally, from this decade and not actually asking for Demons Souls clones (which would be Elden Ring for sure) or something like that -- Breath of the Wild 😁 I don't really like this game much, but since you were so generous to spot me, we'll roll with it. I do think it's a masterpiece, though, and can see why other's love it so much. But it's really not for me. Deathloop -- once I realized this one's "schtick" and it clicked, it was one of my most amazing game experiences ever. Ghost of Tsushima - I went in with a "I'm not gonna like this one much" mentality and it shut me up nice n' quick Witcher 3 Divinity: Original Sin -- part 2 is actually a much better game that builds on and improves the greatness that was part 1 Rocket League Beat Saber VR Superhot VR -- this game made me feel like I'm in a John Wick type of fight more than any game I've ever played. And not a game that I personally enjoy, but Fortnite -- because I'm blown away by how it managed to pretty much hook in virtually everyone in a way that I've never seen before. I could effortlessly "proffer" title after title (like Metal Gear Solid V and Mario Odyssey -- the New Donk City finale alone blew me away more than any other Mario game in its entirety) but I'm sure you'd cut 'em down because they're sequels and/or built on pre-existing game mechanics and such.
  4. You might not, but many of use can, will, and do get "blown away" by new titles. Funny thing is, the "whatever games happened to make you go back..." part of your statement has always been more modern experiences, for me. I've loved gaming since the late 70's, but I don't think any game ever truly "blew me away" and made me rethink what was possible until PS2 when I played Dragon Quest 8 and FZero on Gamecube. Then I was blown away again when I took a chance on this game that reviewers kept saying "there's no way to truly explain some of these mechanics other than to suggest everyone give it a shot" -- that game was Demons Souls on PS3, which later evolved to Dark Souls. Stepping out of the "real world" and into the "fantasy world" in Ni no Kuni blew me away on PS3. Then VR game along and I had never seen anything like Superhot. Even the tried n' true formula of Tetris has a whole new level of wow when playing Tetris Connected in VR. Last year, Deathloop (PS5) blew me away once I understood it and it clicked. Now Returnal (PS5) seems like it's gonna repeat that.
  5. Nah, that's actually kinda badass. I mean, if that were RC toy, I'd want one. Putting Tommy in charge was more like a, hmm.... anyone have a picture of a small clown riding a tricycle with an air raid siren for the horn?
  6. If you do, you should still charge them a $40 shipping fee so they can get the full experience.
  7. Aggelos (PS4) Picked this up for something like 2 bucks on PS store, and loved it. It's like a combo of Zelda 2 and the Monster World games. The game is great, but had one annoying bug keeping it from being nearly perfect -- you learn a move where you jump, then press up and attack to do an "upward slash." But when moving left, simply jumping will trigger that move immediately if the stick is up/left diagonal at all. This causes a LOT of annoyance when moving left during platforming parts. Other than that annoyance, I highly recommend it for anyone wishing they "still made 'em like they used to"
  8. Careful! You make a good point and it's spot on accurate analogy, but these conversations recently have turned into "having options is causing the decline of our civilization" or some nonsense like that. Complete with a bunch of random pictures and insulting France as "supporting arguments." Yeah, things got weird. Y'all need to show some respect! I'm sure "them" is a close personal friend of Tommy's and fun fact -- Tommy was probably the First American Dodo to ever eat a donut.
  9. Yeah, but you don't have the focus group data where millions of people said they'd rather only have something like Atari 2600 Pac Man (that was selected by the curator) than to have actual variety/options.
  10. Based on your previous posts, shouldn’t you actively avoid this type of negativity and embrace the positives of “people actually enjoying things?” Shouldn’t you be more like “sure, there’s some bad, but there’s a ton of awesomeness, too, and I choose to embrace the awesomeness!” Or maybe you were previously full of crap and just doing some good ol’ soapbox trolling and you really prefer to spread the gloom n’ doom at every opportunity, determined to argue with everyone to ensure they’re pulled away from things they’re enjoying while trying to drag them into the same ol’ miserable “everything is crap” train of thought. Also, don’t forget that when you first started posting here, you were adamant that the thing that’s gonna “save gaming” was a vaporware/scam console idea that was literally promising a game library of some of the weakest MODERN gaming that we have to offer – like ports of mobile free-to-play stuff - and when they started showing off these titles, we all got to see they were built with assets stolen from, get this… existing MODERN games. So ya know, maybe you don’t have the best record of knowing what’s what regarding this hobby at the moment.
  11. To many of us who easily find more awesomeness now that ever before, it's not declining at all. But of course we all have our own takes on it, and it's very much up to the individual it seems, and considering your supporting points are 9 random pictures, I figure that explains a lot.
  12. Ah, welp... so much for all those previous posts you've made calling for "kindness" and "positivity" and complaining how people's comments devolve into personal attacks. 🤣
  13. You have a nice blank space in the bottom left there to add "Games today all suck because the developers don't dress like Ward Cleaver"
  14. Aggelos Picked this up on PS4 for something like 2 bucks. It really feels like I'm playing a cross between Zelda 2 and a Monster World game. Looks like its on Switch, XBox, and Steam too.
  15. I dunno if its "different," since I'm not in tune with France, but I can say his "Every movie is a 90s Michael Bay explosion orgy" comment is laughably wrong here in the US, too. The last few movies I've seen had absolutely nothing to do with that style of movie. I've seen more "common culture" around things like Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite in the modern era that I've ever seen with Mario as a kid. But even still, I don't think everyone playing the same game(s) because that's pretty much all we had to choose from is a good thing. You feel differently, that's fine. I still think things are much better now. I never watched Simpsons as a kid, unless you count the butterfinger commercials. I got the first 3 seasons on DVD as an adult, though, and that's all I've seen so far. Never in my life, as a kid or an adult, have I had Thriller in my Walkman. Neither did any of my friends, best of my knowledge. Meh, it'll be fine and adjust as needed. We've seen the "gloom and doom" statements for decades, but despite that, we're constantly seeing impressive data regarding numbers sold, users playing, etc. They may not be "connecting" the way you want and remember from ye olden times, but it's still happening. The only people left out and complaining are those who won't adapt. I think Nintendo just released a new game that sold something like 10 million copies in just a couple/few days and its easy to find thousands of people all hanging out together online "connecting" during streams and such. That's not my jam, it's probably not yours, but to ignore that it's not a thing is a bit silly. So, who gets to decide which movie is the "great picture" that its ultimately better that everyone should see? Funny to me that you mention Unforgiven... I love Unforgiven, and I agree that it's a great picture. But when it came out, a funny thing happened --- 2 of my uncles have been die hard western fans since around the time God made rocks, it seems. And they really liked Clint Eastwood movies. But when Unforgiven game out, they went all old and ranted and raved about how awful it was, how it was nothing like the westerns "in the good old days," how movies these days are garbage, etc etc... Pretty much all of the older folk in my family didn't like it much (no one else ranted like those 2, though) So should we all have an election to find one Grand Supreme Movie Picker who can tell us which one the 30 million people should see? Hopefully they'll wear a suit and look old n' stuffy. I've recently learned that they're part of the problem if they wear a tshirt. 😁
  16. Thomas Was Alone Undertale (if you play without killing anyone)
  17. I know many people here don’t and won’t agree with this, because it seems everyone falls into that rut of “it was all better back in my day” and gets all narrow minded and closed off when we get older, but honestly dude, it’s better now that it’s ever been. If, for no other reason, for the simple fact that we still have 100% of “how it was” and tons of new awesomeness to add to it. There’s so much variety these days, anyone who can’t find something they like seems to be unwilling to look, or maybe they've changed and just no longer into the hobby. Sure there’s crap mixed in with the good stuff (always been that way) and there’s stuff that’s just not for us, regardless of the quality (always been that way, too) The number 1 complaint I see pop up in these “then vs now” discussions regarding media is the lack of a gatekeeper in the industry. And I guess that’s where the failure to understand is on me, because I can’t fathom how us never getting some amazing games/movies/songs just because some business suits “curated” the releases is ever perceived as a good thing. But to each their own.
  18. Kinda --- First one looks like it could be an amazing Mech/flight cockpit. Those Power Glove 2.0 things look like they should be fun, but in that "you're a kid and you see something with a lot of buttons and you have no idea what they do but you just know there's some sort of awesomeness there" kind of way. Reminds me of this toy I had as a kid -- And if y'all don't see the fun in a jet powered hover mouse with a mounted scope and a spoiler, then you're already dead inside, so just carry on with the "being miserable and simply existing" thing. 😁
  19. Dude's like -- I'll see your "don't talk about this" and raise you one "I'm gonna talk about this anyways" Hopefully they ignore that and you never get an answer, because that's only gonna keep the discussion going. We left it in a good spot with "morality" and Hitler's really good sci-fi novel. No need to elaborate in a TG-16 thread.
  20. Heh! When I click that link, it takes me to the update, but gives me a pop-up and but won't let me read the update until I click one of the links to purchase.
  21. True. At this point, though, we can apply that same logic to pretty much anything they've said and are likely to say. "update coming this week" -- doesn't mean anything "release date is..." -- doesn't mean anything "100% refundable at any time" -- doesn't mean anything etc...
  22. Right. Its one thing to say "I like it more" or "I prefer one to the other," which is fine, but in no way is it "better."
  23. Dude runs around destroying all those pretty, colorful blocks, drilling through (what I assume is) someone else's property so somebody is gonna be on the hook for paying for that damage. Makes me kinda sad just thinking about it. And the anxiety that comes from watching the oxygen slowly deplete, wondering if this is they day Ol' Driller finally dies a horrible, horrible death because of choices I helped make. So much negativity.
