  1. The music in this game makes me feel like this --
  2. Yep, nailed it! I'm interested in all other "quick games," too, so definitely appreciate the suggestions so far. But yeah, I'm specifically interested in the games that fit that "fixed time high score sprint" description that you mentioned/described. Seems like such a great mechanic, to me, but not finding a lot of games built around it.
  3. It was too big and too sexy for the industry to contain. All other game systems felt ashamed and just quit trying. ET had nothing to do with it.
  4. AtariAge posts taught me that it's big and sexy, or something like that.
  5. Yes! That part at the 1 min to 1:12 mark makes me lol everytime. "It costs a dollar..."
  6. What are some awesome games with runs approx. 10 mins or so? Several years ago, I played a game on Xbox called “I MADE A GAME WITH ZOMBIES IN IT” or something like that, and it was a shooter that lasted 10 mins or so, and you basically just did a run to score as many points as possible within that time, before the background song ran out. And it was awesome. I’m working on a game idea, and want to create a simple game that uses that concept – short fuse, score as much as possible, plop your name on a leaderboard, try again –and looking to see what others are out there to gain a bit of inspiration and ideas. Any favorites?
  7. Yeah, that's pretty much my reasoning. I'll still play a lot of games on them, I'm sure, but no point in collecting since the physical copies aren't complete anymore. Eh, last I checked, PS5 library was over 450 titles already (not counting the 3000+ backwards compatible games), so it's doing ok and will only get more robust. Some are amazing and some are stinkers, of course. But comparing its library to 32x and/or SuperGrafx as a way to illustrate something's wrong is really just the fault of people like you and me being silly. All that beeping makes me think you're censoring yourself. ?
  8. Nope, those are just the only 2 that I mentioned. I think it's up to 6 or so, which is about equal to the SuperGrafx's entire library, and that things been about for 30+ years. ? And from what I hear, they're both about equally as hard to find these days.
  9. Yep. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was the reason suckers like me had to fork over some $$$. And that + Astro's Playroom were the (1st) reasons those same suckers go... "this thing is pretty awesome..."
  10. Kinda funny to see you guys referencing "imagination" needed for video games. I've been playing some modern JRPG type of stuff lately, and I've quite frequently found myself thinking of something similar. I can pop in Frostbite, River Raid, Keystone Kapers on 2600 and just vibe with how amazingly fun it is, no brain strain required. But some of these modern JRPGs (even when I enjoy them) -- I really have to stretch the ol' imagination muscle to try and pretend that what just happened at any given moment wasn't "complete and utter ridiculous bullshit"
  11. REFUSE is a bit harsh, but I don't really have any desire or motivation to "collect" for modern systems, since all the physical copies are fractions of the game now. So instead of "add that to my collection," I just buy whatever I wanna play in whatever way is cheapest to get it. I do have lots of modern games on disc/cart because they were cheaper than digital, but I know they're incomplete until downloading the updates/patches/etc, so that renders "collecting" pointless to me.
  12. Not sure if it's new, limited, or always been this way, but there's a bunch of freebies on GOG right now Freebies on GOG
  13. You're kicking the absolute crap out of a boss, and near the end of the fight, the cutscene takes over where they insult you, imply they "have no more time to waste on you" and leave, so you'll have to fight them later. I'm always like... "c'mon game, we got this! Let me kick the shit out of 'em now!" Related --- those boss battles where they insist on rattling on about how powerful they are, but have to call in a bunch of cronies to help during the fight.
  14. Ah, you wouldn't like it on the NES, then, unless your tastes have changed since then. It's the same game, I think. As in, if I remember right, I think the "GBA version" was just the NES rom and emulation, so literally the same game, and not a port or anything.
  15. I'd be up for the first one, too. But not sure if it's worth the rage, whining, and fit pitching that one would cause ? I'm gonna try to take the top spot on Xevious pretty soon. Be awesome if it found its way into the rotation. That one's pretty special to me, going back to when I had to stand on a stool (or in a chair) to see the screen on the arcade machine.
  16. Side quests during "urgent situations." In one of the newer Batman games, I thought it was funny that a hostage was strapped to a chair or something, about to die, I'm "racing" to save them, but somehow got distracted chasing down Riddler puzzles. But that's ok... they waited patiently. Along those lines -- the world is about to end so we have to get to "wherever" and retrieve "whatever" before Big Bad does, or we're all doomed. But yeah, I'll take a few mins to collect your missing chickens, collect the scattered pages from your cookbook, and whoa... is that a new fishing hole I see? Day booked!
  17. What's really funny about Alex Kidd in Miracle World is they weren't even random. Just jot down what they chose and never lose a life to them again during subsequent playthroughs. Not sure if its like this in the other games.
  18. Popeye (multiple) Rambo 3 (Genesis) Batman (NES)
  19. Figured it’d be fun to lightheartedly gripe about all the stupid crap in video games we have to put up with, roll our eyes and just accept “that’s just how it is, I suppose.” In games, books, movies, etc, we all have to suspend belief a bit to allow for things to “just be” in that world. Sorcery, demons, super strength, saving worlds with the power of friendship – things like that are just part of the world they’ve created, no matter how over the top. But I’m kind of curious to see what you guys consider to be “dumb crap” that really just doesn’t make any sense, other than our real world limitations like tech, budget, and such. Things like – 1) Character can jump 10 feet in the air and/or parkour all over the place, but is stopped dead in tracks by a 2 feet high wall 2) Being chosen by the King to “save our world from ultimate destruction,” but you have to scrap enough $$$ to buy your own sword, pay for your own food, pay for you stay at the inn, etc 3) Fast travel from A to C is not allowed at this moment, because of a pending cut scene near B 4) Shop Owners don’t mind that I just smashed all their furniture hoping to find something 5) That character just demolished an entire army in that cut scene, I’ll add him to my party. Suddenly, he can’t defeat a level 1 rat. 6) 12 members in my party, but only 3 can fight at a time. Whatcha got to add?
  20. I didn't know this So If I see a game on the HSC Scoreboard from 6 seasons ago, for example, I can pop a score in that thread for the HSC Scoreboard? Of course if makes sense that it wouldn't count toward current season. But still, I always figured that would result in some "Dude, stop effing with old threads" type of growling. So that's pretty awesome.
  21. Oh, I helped. I didn't just watch. ? I'm just convinced that I sucked at that fight and the mimic faithfully mirrored my suckiness.
  22. Oh, make no mistake, me playing solo wasn't a pride thing. I wanted to summon help a LOT, but it just wouldn't work for me. ? Constant "unable to summon" messages, and as I progressed through the game, it got to a point where I rarely saw any summon signs (I did plow through pretty fast, so I guess there wasn't a lot of action late game yet) And it was pretty late in the game before I found about about mimic, so low level wolves providing a distraction was my go-to
  23. My mimic's issues were probably related to my build. It's a badass, and I'm convinced I could sit back and watch it solo most of the bosses through NG+. But with Malenia, he gets stupid and she just used him as an easy target to heal. SO it was one of those rare cases where having the "help," actually made it harder for me.
  24. Same. I've beaten the game twice now and still don't know which of those is which, other than Malenia, because -- This is the only boss I couldn't beat during my playthrough. I didn't' have much luck with co-op, so I played virtually the entire game solo, but Malenia was the only boss I couldn't take down by myself. I even came back right before fighting the final boss to make sure I was leveled properly and carrying "end game" gear, but couldn't do it. NG+ --- I'm guessing I spent an embarrassing 50+ tries at the end before giving up, and most of NG+ felt like "easy mode." I was finally able to summon someone and they did the work for me, which is kinda sad but oh well ? Edit: I misremembered --- I thought it was my 1st playthrough where I had help with Malenia and won, but then I remembered I just gave up entirely during that round and did try again on NG+
