  1. 5) Elden Ring (PS5) Finished it at approx. 71:45 hours, according to the game. I have some pretty mixed feelings about this one. At times, it feels like it perfectly captured what my imagination always thought how these types of adventures should feel. And those bit of “amazing” shine through. But then it just got cheap. Not difficult. Just cheap. Huge bosses that cause your camera to go bonkers (if you’re a melee player and getting up close) while they leap out of view and launch a “one shot” kill, kind thing. So it stopped being fun at a lot of points. But overall, I liked it. I predict they’ll patch it to make it much easier, though. Currently, a very low percentage of people seem to be getting very far, which goes against the director’s statements of “I believe more people will finish this one than past Soul’s games” or something like that.
  2. I think I’m done with this one. I’m about 70 hours in, standing at the door to the last boss, have already beaten pretty much all the others (to the best of my knowledge) but I really have no desire to try that last boss again. It’s such a poorly designed boss, unless you use some sort of magic, I suppose. But the entire fight is just me (a melee character) running after it from one end of the area to the next. Not fun. Really, the first half of the game was ok, I guess, but the second half just went down the shitter. I describe a lot of the bosses in a way that I’ve NEVER considered the other souls games – they’re cheap. Not “fair but difficult.” Just cheap and frustrating. I dunno… I may log in later and beat the thing just go wrap it up. But I don’t see me coming back to this one at all. Which is sad considering how many times I’ve replayed and finished all 5 others
  3. So we can react with  like, thanks, haha, confused, and sad.   But seems we need a reaction for “damn, man… why you gotta be such a dick?!?!”

If we got reputation points for receiving those I'd probably be around 950,000 by now.

  4. The pop up message said it was safe, I thought, but every time I've tried, I died. ? So I assumed I misunderstood and stopped. I'm near the end of the game, but having a pretty hard time motivating myself to finish it.
  5. Maybe. Good news is, looks like they're still available so you can order them if you want. Better hurry though, I think I saw an email that said they were almost sold out or something. ... unless I'm totally missing which games you're talking about, and if that's the case, ignore me I'm stoopid
  6. Yeah, seems like my takeaways from my playthrough so far is pretty much the same as yours. I'm a couple of "true" bosses past Godrick, and still feels like 2 experiences. At times, I wanna shout "best game ever!!!" and then I'm back to that boring ass (but amazing) open world stuff. And I don't think it's the game's fault, really, I just don't enjoy wandering around aimlessly going "ooh..." and "ahh..." But for gamers who DO love that sort of thing, BEST GAME EVER!!! I suppose. I'm at the point now where I'll see ruins or a cave and think "no point." I'll just mark it and maybe come back later. Even still, though, I'm enjoying it overall, and have a feeling it's gonna be one of my favorites when all's said and done.
  7. Yes, that got annoying long ago. I’m about 12 hours in, now, and the most amazing thing I’ve seen so far was a single “hidden path” message that actually had a hidden path. Lucky! Most of my game so far has been boredom and aimless trekking. BUT… the area in the castle after beating the first “story boss” has been amazing, so my past couple/few hours have felt like I was playing “Dark Souls 4.” I do dread going back outside, though. Same.
  8. 7.5 hours in with Elden Ring, and I'm pretty torn. Overall, it's been the most boring effing game I've played in a long time. But then it has those little moments that feel like a souls game, and I get hopeful. But man, that open world mess is a huge bore. I feel like I ride around for hours doing nothing, finding nothing, fighting nothing. In past souls games, enemies were something you had to fight and overcome to proceed. Now, other than bosses, it seems you have to go pick the fight yourself, not because you need to (you can just ride around them and carry on) but because there's nothing to do in there.
  9. He should apply that same design to his youtube channels and all his dreams will be realized. Heck, from what I've seen in this tread, he could post a deeply tragic "woah is me" story and one user will view and comment enough to send it viral all by themselves.
  10. Yeah, here at AA we do English gooder than most other places. Its self awareness really. We know if we slip up, the grammar nuts tend to loose there mind.
  11. A video of "Old Dude Gets Weener Caught in Classic Console Cartridge Slot" might just the viral video to kickstart that career. ?
  12. I remember being very interested in this game, but not actually liking it. It was weird, like I'd rent it again, knowing that I didn't have fun "last time," but still wanted to give it another shot. But yeah, I didn't like it much on NES. However, I bought the Wii version/remake and loved it.
  13. Eh, I hate finding an “article” that I’m legit interested in reading, but the damn thing is formatted as some kind of slide show with 1 sentence per page, and ads between each.

What I would do (and YMMV) I'd get some key words about the topic and then try to find it online in Non-Slideshow format.

Annoying aren't they?   Or when they show a teaser picture that you have to be near the end of the article to find what it was about?

Recipes are awful for this now! I just want the recipe, not to have to scroll through seven pages of your mom-blog about how your kids just LOOOOOVE it and 175 Instagram photos because you need an attention fix. Just give the friggin ingredients up front.

  14. 2 that come to mind for me are – Speed Rumbler Ali Baba and 40 Thieves I always thought Speed Rumbler was one of the greats, but none of my friends seem to have heard of it. Then came the internet, and I started seeing a lot of “that game was terrible” type of talk, so I dunno. I still love it, and think it’s a pretty great game, but doesn’t seem to have a lot of love otherwise. I had never heard of Ali Baba and 40 Thieves (well, not the game at least) until playing around with a Mame Cabinet a few years ago. Took a few minutes to figure out how to play, and I was hooked. One of my favorite “maze” games now.
  15. 4) Infernax (Xbox) It was an “ok” sort of game. It seems like it pulled a lot from Zelda 2, which is great since I love that one, but somehow the whole thing just felt a bit thin. And the only real challenge came in the form of some poorly designed platforming parts. And these weren’t really a challenge, just annoying. Others seem to love it a bit more than me, so if anyone’s interested in a “modern Zelda II” type of game, it’s on Gamepass.
  16. 3) Archvale (Xbox) This a cool game that I expect to see on a few “hidden gems” lists over the next few years! I downloaded by accident on gamepass, and decided to check it out “for a few minutes” before deleting, and finished about 12 hours later. I’ve not really played anything exactly like it before, that I can recall. It blends a bit of 2D Zelda adventure/RPG with a Twin Stick bullet hell shooter. All while feeling like a retro favorite as we remember it though our rose colored nostalgia glasses – clean visuals and silky smooth (60fps, I believe) gameplay Only 2 gripes keeping this from being a perfect 10 for me – The inventory management is a bit of a chore with several obvious “they should have added this” to make it more streamlined. The difficulty seems a bit off. I played Normal, but later read (from one of the devs, I believe) that normal was balanced for Co-Op and Easy was balanced for Single player. And I can totally see that – it’s perfectly doable on normal, but the added HP of the enemies takes a bit away from the satisfying “like popping bubble wrap” feel of mowing them down on easy. Even with those 2 gripes, this one is highly recommended. And the second griped is easily avoided – just play on easy if you’re playing single player.
  17. @digdugnate How's the Ys journey going? Curious to hear a new player's thoughts on the franchise, if you're still chugging along.
  18. Amazon almost put some packing material in my shipment this time!   Nice to see they can afford to splurge thanks to those rate increases!

… I say “almost” because they placed a DEFLATED sheet of those air bag thingies on top of the item.  Deflated so it would fit in the box, I suppose.  No way it could have fit if it weren't.

      x=usr(1536)

I ordered a small item from Amazon recently, and it came in a box that could have legitimately held two decent-sized shoeboxes.  No packing material at all.

Then there are the items I've ordered where they don't even put them in a shipping box - just slap a label on it and let the world know that there's a $1200 switch sitting on my doorstep.

But it's OK, because it all averages out, right? :-D

I had that happen once where they just slapped a label on the item box and shipped, and it arrived badly damaged.  So I returned it, all nice and hassle free, and mailed it back the same way – just a label on the box.  They complained about my “improper packaging” after receiving it.  I think – and I don’t remember the specifics –  but I got the impression that the seller may have disputed something to them because it was damaged and wanted to act like it was my fault.

  19. I love Top Gun. It was a favorite as kid, and still is. I never really had any issues landing the plane -- I always love that tension of having to get everything just perfect or else the whole mission is blown.
  20. Is “Copy and Paste the Whole Damn Thing from Twitter” a course requirement for journalism majors, now?

    1. Cobra Kai

      Cobra Kai

Yes. And comments from random users and even bots are considered verifiable sources to back-up outlandish claims. Its all a feedback loop. It works like this: make up fake story, get users to comment = we have verification! Then on the TV news "here's what is trending on Twitter"...even more verification! Easy peasy

And...the same news sites charge you a subscription fee after a couple "free" views to read what they plagerized.

They deserve a bit more credit than that; sometimes they copy and paste it from Reddit, too!

  21. 5) Cristales (Xbox) I played for about 10 hours, but I think I'm done. It's a beautiful game, but I've just been bored pretty much the entire time.
  22. Gonna have to find a different TV for this Dariusburst game.  Anyone know of a model that's about 1' tall and 6' wide?  seems that outta do it.

That game has an awesome soundtrack, but it does require an ultra-wide monitor. As for a TV, I can't help you, unfortunately.

I have a monitor much like these at work.  Usually terrible for gaming but great for writing contracts.   Have to check out this Dariusburst game.
