  1. I'll add that the 8bitdo Mega Drive pad works wonderfully with the Edladdin adaptor. It's just about the perfect gamepad controller as is, and it makes playing the 7800 a joy. Way better than the painlines and euro pads.
  2. Maybe in terms of technical accomplishment, but not in fun. I can't tell you how many hours of enjoyment I've gotten out of your games over the years. Seriously. Your arcade ports and my Atari XL are pretty much the only things I play these days when I want arcade games. While I'm absolutely gobsmacked at Tailchao's achievement (the game is just jaw droppingly gorgeous, it really is), that doesn't take away one whit for how fun all your arcade ports are. They've pretty much taken a niche console and made it into a daily played kinda thing. Credit where credit is due, etc.
  3. It's a bit of an irony that a console with a bunch of average ports (speaking only of the originally released library) had a very good shooter lineup. Centipede is the best home port of that game ever, especially with two player co-op. The Asteroids port is top notch too. WHen you add in all of the homebrew stuff like Moon Cresta, Space Invaders, Meteor Shower, Asteroids Deluxe, Space Duel, Astro Blaster, Scramble, Super Cobra, Astro Fighter.... well, the system really has a great 8-bit shooter lineup now. But out of all of them, Xevious is still my fav. It's the reason I got one for xmas back in the day.
  4. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of the original stuff. Xevious and Desert Falcon are played constantly, as are Commando and Joust. Say ten games in all. With the homebrews and protos (like Sirius, Plutos etc) that number has more than doubled.
  5. I suppose Midnight Mutants does qualify as well, but it was certainly too little too late by that point. The 7800 is a console I owned and liked back in the day, but never loved. The homebrew scene has made it my favorite arcade console. It's been cool how much good stuff has been released long after it's prime.
  6. I'm very surprised that atwong's Haunted Adventure 2 / Haunted Adventure games have not been mentioned. The second one is by far the biggest, most complex game on the 2600 to date. It's a completely overhauled hack of Nukey's 8k adventure rom, that totally converts it to a Haunted House sequel. There are outdoors areas with animated objects, crypts, graveyards, caves, basements, portals to the underworld, and other areas, as well as the titular haunted house proper. Tons of items, enemies and secrets too, some of which are REALLY hard to find. For original 'back in the day' games, the supercharger-only Dragonstomper and Survival Island are pretty massive.
  7. Yeah, I've used a SVA2 for years as my primary Atari 2600. No issues on my end. Love the combo controller/paddle for anything that doesn't need button mashing too. There hasn't been any incompatibility issues that I have noticed. Everything that works on the heavy sixer works on the SVA2
  8. Well, I hear the Kickstarter is getting so big that they've tracked down Hardwork and his team of dedicated Knight Rider 2600 developers to assist with the project. There are even talks of this merging with the Coleco Chameleon project too. Exciting times, folks, exciting times.
  9. It's definitely better than the 2600 version. I gave Jr. another shot last night. It is better than I remember it being, play wise. Not quite as smooth as the NES but close enough not to matter. The sound feels half finished though, like the programmer ran out of time to polish it.
  10. This one would be higher on my list if it didn't sound so bad. It has all the levels, in the same order as the NES version, and it plays very well. But it sounds like someone torturing cats. It's not quite as bad as DK on the 7800, but it's painful.
  11. A bog standard Edladdin adaptor with a cheap-and-awesome Genesis Asciiware Powerclutch stick works wonderfully, if you don't want to wait. Skip the genesis pads. These sticks work better than the NES advantage IMHO.
  12. Yeah I'm really looking forward to this one as well. With this released, the 7800 pretty much becomes THE Pac Man home console of choice.
  13. Rikki and Vikki is one of those 'bar' games. It's a great game that also changed what everyone believes the 7800 is capable of. Now we know it really could have competed if talent and money had been there. And this is the reason. No one until two or three of the homebrew devs here ever really PUSHED the 7800, figured out all the tricks and capabilities. The folks HERE finally did that, and now we are seeing that the 7800 really was a very good game console for it's time. If we took R&V, Crystal Quest, Pac Man Collection, and some of the other great homebrews back in time to, say, 2004, no one would believe those were 7800 games without visual proof. They;re that much better than the officially released games, fun as some of those may be.
  14. Rikki and Vikki is outstanding... but so is Bently's Crystal Quest. We've really seen the old girl come to life over the last few years of homebrews. Seriously, homebrews have taken the 7800 from an occasionally fun historical curiosity to one of the best retro systems for arcade games anywhere.
  15. I for one am glad you can't just continue where you died. This game takes skill and repetition. I want it to last for awhile, and the score/lives tradeoff is a cool idea.
  16. Just got mine. Very nice unit, plays great. It's nice to have an arcade stick to play all of the great arcade ports on the 7800. Much better than the damn 'Painline' controllers!
  17. Yeah, I'm using a Genesis Asciiware 3 button joystick via the Edladdin to play this and it's perfect. The game itself is gorgeous. My first reaction was 'wait, this is on the 7800? Did I mix up the inputs for my TG-16?"
  18. Just a follow up, we still have not received the joystick, if It had gone out on Monday of last week, we should have seen it by now. I can give you order details by PM if you'd like.
  19. Got mine just in time to head out of town. Now I have to stare at it all weekend! Damn you, postage gods! Seriously, though. This is top notch stuff.
  20. I got a mint A8 Curse of Ra out of there just before it all went to hell. Obviously, I'm far more concerned about the people and I hope sanity is restored soon, but I feel good knowing I rescued at least one little piece of Atari history from the madness.
  21. Yeah, and it's the reason this is my favorite port. The harder difficulties really make the game shine.
  22. It stays off the 'worst' list for Caverns of Kafka alone, that was one of the most played games on my 800 back in the day. Aztec Challenge wasn't awful either. I find Gebelli software much worse than Cosmi.
  23. Fascinating read. It's always great when some obscure corner of 8-bit history is not only documented, but dumped and shared. Cool stuff!
  24. Great, thanks for the heads up. And yes, that's the experience I had with the site as well. No matter how many times the wife filled it out, it wouldn't send. Looking forward to getting the stick
