  1. Yep, that O2 needs a cart I just picked one up myself, and it does that whenever the cart doesn't make contact just right. Fun system though. Pick up 'Pick Axe Pete' and any of the K.C. Munchkin games. Good fun. A lot more so than I was expecting, actually. As to thrift finds, I found a box of 35 Intelliviosion games with all manuals, overllays, boxes etc. that included one of ther rarest games on the system: Stadium Mud Buggies. For 10$. One of the few really good finds up here.
  2. I have an Intellivision II, as well as an original model. The controllers are not crap, but the odd placement of the discs and fire buttons makes them a bit awkward at first. Most classic 8-bit systems have somewhat 'ergonomically challenged' joysticks, but the Intellivision is not the worst of the lot. I think they work fine. I never had an Intelliviosion when I was a kid, and only stumbled on to the whole INTV scene a few years back by accident and a lucky thrift find. It's one of my favorite systems now, and I have over 70 games for it. If you are thinking of picking on up then go for it, the controllers worn't slow you down. In my opinion, though, the original model is MUCH sturdier than the II, so I would go with one of those. Just my two cents.
  3. I loved this game back in the day, and was really happy to find it in the wild a few months ago. It's kind of a Super Mario meets Crossbow kind of deal, and yeah, it's hard as heck. I seem to remember breaking my original lightgun over it I did eventually beat it, but YE GODS that last boss is a pain. I've learned a lot since then. Instead of breaking perfectly innocent lightguns, I just throw the offending cart at any annoying yappy dogs that happen to be handy. It makes a nice THWACK sound, shuts the dog up (they're easy to replace, much cheaper than carts, and you don't have to order of ebay even), and the throw usually does no long term damage to the game Seriously, I do like Gumshoe. I think it's the only lightgun game that ever really grabbed me. Fun stuff.
  4. Well, when the purple monkey isn't distracting me, I usually pick two or three games to focus on (usually at random) and just go with it. One of the perks of having so many games is that you kind of get to 're-discover' games you haven't played in awhile. It's almost as good as actually finding some new carts in the wild. I popped in crystal castles awhile back and it was like 'yikes, I forgot how fun this was'. Ditto Berzerk, which got instantly moived over to the 'why the hell am I not playing this!?' stack. I have found that I tend not to play a single game quite as long though. Ten years ago, I'd sit and play a single game for hours. Now, seeing that I have a vast pile of atari stuff that has consumed my soul, as well as the afore-mentioned annoying purple monkey, I tend to play three or four games in the same amount of time. Lately it's been HERO and Jawbreaker. Anyways, nice meeting you all! Good to know that ther are other luna... err enthusisats out there with the same condition. I hear the only cure is a nice long River Patrol followed by a relaxing vacation in an, ah, Air Raid shelter
  5. First off, a big hello to y'all! Or a small one. Dunno. Not sure how big a hello actually is. Probably llama-sized, I'd guess..... Anyway, I've been lurking around here on and off for years. I've been collecting Atari since I got a 2600 and 13(!) games back in 82. Thank you fire sale! I'm particularly partial to Activision and Imagic (who isn't), and have amassed a collection of over 300 VCS games, as well as a nice chunk of 5200 and 7800 titles, as well as some Odyssey2 and Colecovision stuff. Don't even ask about the NES. Which brings me to the point (I have one, really!) Do any of you notice that, the bigger your collection gets, the harder it seems to actually pick out a title and play it? It's not that I don't enjoy my games anymore -far from it-, but it just seems harder to actually pick one and give it the time it deserves when 400+ other titles are staring back at me from the shelf. Any of you have this problem? Anyone have a cure? Or should I just give in, go nuts, and listen to the purple monkey on my shoulder telling me to buy fruit? Cheers!
