  1. I don't know about that... the first 1st person AvP on PC scares the shit out of me when I'm a marine to this day. I can't think of a single other game that has the same effect.
  2. Well the latest game for the Jaguar would have to be either Superfly DX (latest original game) or Aircars 94 Beta (latest released prototype), but there are more games coming this year.
  3. Ok, so it's a BJL modded jaguar, which came with a JUGS disc, and two thirds of a dump cable. How bizarre. Yeah, just make yourself an adaptor*, plug in a parallel cable, and you'll be all set to play homebrews. I'm sure a quick google will throw up the BJL uploader software for DOS, Windoze, Linux, or ST. * The adaptor should cost less in parts than a McDonalds and be better for you too, doesn't even need soldering if you use sockets with modular pins.
  4. You can add a SuperFly DX Tournament to that list, with prizes.

Correct me if I'm wrong here though, but Reboot aren't trying to make a lot of money out of this. I wouldn't be surprised (although obviously can't speak for them) if they didn't release it free or at cost. The issue isn't how much they're charging but if they have the legal right to distribute the game. If they're not distributing the game, but simply a loader-disk for the game, that's gotta be a legal grey area at best. The closest analogy would be a mod-chip, but they're made and sold for profit, and live in a grey area in many parts of the world. I haven't researched it, but I would imagine most of the legal challenges to mod-chip makers is that they are profiting from the facilitation of copyright infringement, which would not be the case if the loader disk were freely available. Still, this is all rather academic for now, and IANAL anyway, just offering a few opinions.
  6. Agreed. Life is far too short to let a little drama get in the way of a good time. Sorry if I sounded overly negative, and you're right, the past should be left in the past. But not forgotten, lest we be doomed to repeat it. Good luck getting here.
  7. It certainly gave me pause for thought before deciding to attend, and I know of a number of other people who are not attending specifically because of that and other drama. It's a real shame, the early JFUK's at the Medway Manor were such friendly affairs.
  8. You mean like the "JagCF" and "Reboot Dev Studio" photos from last time? Still not impressed by that.

Uh... do I want to ask what you mean by that?
  10. VERY NICE! And really well photographed too.
  11. I don't suppose you'd like to post some photos of the kit your considering buying?

Wow! I expected someone would raise objections, but I figured it would be the collectors out to protect their uber-rare copies, not Eidos. Ah well, I guess it'll just have to be an underground release when someone fixes it up, distributed quietly with nobody really talking about it.

That would be amazing if you could do it. I can't wait!
  14. Hmm... you make good points. I should be less quick to object to things I think.
  15. Good move. I would suggest supporting Atari mice as an input option along side ps/2 mice, but that depends on what kind of adaptor you build. Bad move. It really isn't that complex at all, and I can't think of any better method. The way a Jaguar controller is read only supports twenty-four bits of data per controller. You could multiply that by four if you're willing to sacrifice team-tap compatibility, but bank switching really is simple and by far the best option. It barely requires any extra effort on the part of the controller micro or the jaguar programmer. Perhaps you should re-read techref? I don't see why you think it's "needlessly complicated and not flexible enough".
  16. Hmm... on further consideration you're right and I retract my objections. It would be nice if we were hosting an event big enough to make those things possible, and with a sponsor with deep pockets, but that isn't the case and I should stop dreaming.
  17. I couldn't agree more. To read a bus mouse (or to directly read a ps/2 mouse) would require an absurd amount of processing time being devoted simply to reading inputs, whereas a small cheap processor could do the job on an adaptor and pass the deltas in two banks of data, and still have room for 4 buttons. Adding a third bank would allow for a scroll wheel and up to 16 buttons, and yet take no more effort to read than a normal Jag pad.
  18. Why? I'm a Londoner. I'd have nowhere to park, have to pay congestion charges if I wanted to go anywhere useful, and have to both spend more and take longer for each journey (due to time spent finding somewhere to park) than going by public transport.
  19. Ah, but we have to call and arrange that ourselves do we? I did manage to snag a TV from the last hotel, but it was a case of talking the receptionist into letting me have the one from a room that was out of use due to a broken bed. The annoying thing is I've got three TV's here in London I could bring if I could only get them there and back.
  20. I have already said unless people contact me in advance I have to standby the hotel rules so if people contact me in advance I can put them on the list That works, and I understand about the hotel, I was just pointing out it's not how it used to be and might confuse some people.

I believe there are at least two different versions, one starting at level one, and another starting somewhere later. All the levels are visible in the attract mode on both I think, but again I'm no expert on this, I've not seen a copy running in years.
  22. I would argue that that's a mistake. At all the previous events people were welcome to show up on the day, pay for a day pass and enjoy the event. Also in the past it has always been possible to pay at the event, which the previous organisers never had any problem with. I'll need just the one table, and I've not decided exactly what I'm bringing just yet, but most likely just the one Jag. As I'm coming by public transport it would be greatly appreciated if someone could lend me a TV. I might be able to bring one but it would be a lot easier for me if I didn't have to. I don't suppose you've spoken to the hotel about the possibility of them supplying some. I'm sure none of us would mind not having one in our rooms if it means we could have one for the event that we wouldn't have to lug all the way there and back.

I wonder what happened with Stones copy. I know he had one, and it was one of the better copies, and had errors but in different places to some other peoples copies. Thus it would in theory be possible to piece together a complete one from all of them. At least, if people would co-operate and not be worried about copyright or de-valuing their "unique" items.
  24. Very awesome! Thanks. It's been a long time since I last saw a working copy of Soulstar.
  25. When I was looking at this a while ago I found this guide quite helpful. http://www.computer-engineering.org/ps2protocol/ None of my projects are really at a stage where I have any real opinion on that. I suppose a lot of it is application dependant. However most people will probably just be using the DSP for sound generation and nothing else, and those who are doing more complex things with it will be good enough with risc asm to adapt any code you supply to their needs, so I'd probably say go with whatever is likely to be most useful, and assume the dsp will only be running sound.
