If you're refering to the horrizontal flickering nature of the input, its not really a big issue. All guns on all systems flicker like that, its just part of their nature, but with a little buffer and an averaging of recent positions you can get it stable enough to be accurate, so thats not really an issue, just a trade off between pin point accuracy and fast reflexes (the more accurate you want it, the more sluggish things become, due to the averaging of a number of recent positions).

I'd like to attend, but I'll have to wait and see for now, depends if I have work and thus money at the time.

Interesting, I've long been curious about the CoJag boards, specifically, how they manage to get a second lightgun input, when Tom only has one gun input pin (documented, at least, I think the pin next to it is unused). How did you work out that the chips are different? are they a different size/shape/package? more/less pins? Details man, details .

Composite? Guys, go RGB, there really is a world of difference between composite and RGB.

No no no, read the docs again. The Jaguar chipset was designed to be able to work with other co-processors, so you could, for example, have an intel workstation with Tom running its graphics and Jerry running its sound. The Jaguar console was quite specifically designed to have a 68000 in it.

Ok, two things I must point out. 8GB is insane? Has everyone forgotten the foolishness that happened after CD Rom based consoles became popular!? I know the developers of the CF card were mostly doing it because they could, and they thought it'd be fun (why else develop anything), but they have taken the one thing about the Jaguar which didnt need fixing, and given it such a "fix" that its now out of all proportion. All this talk of making multi-gigabyte games is nonsense. What on earth are you thinking of putting on there? raw uncompressed video? Secondly, Starcat, if someone comes to you and says "I want to develop on the Jaguar, what will it cost me", DO NOT say $100, say "Well, all you really need is BJL, you can make your own cable and here are a few people who'll sell you and/or attach the chip for $20 or so" Sorry for the rant, but I've a sore throat and this thread is just too full of sillyness. No insult intended, just trying to remind everyone what reality looks like.

Is it just the cable you need? its pretty simple to make your own. You dont even need a soldering iron. Most electronics suppliers sell D type connections with seperate pins, which you crimp together (crimping tools can be improvised with pliers if needed, although its a bit tricky), and once connected to the wire, push through the plug/socket into the correct position (where they latch). The pinout is online somewhere, should be easy to find. If you need a chip to actually mod your jag with, then it'll be a bit more tricky, but there are alternatives (like protector: special edition and the bjl encrypted cd rom image).

Ah, you want Frontal Assault on the PC. edit: damned new script not allowing damned html.

Hmm... I would vote for three (bjl cart and cd) if I were able.

Actually I believe the game was intended for Jaguar Server useage (an early homebrew dev kit in which the main system bus of the Jaguar was hooked into the cartridge port of an Atari ST, which I believe is wired straight to the main bus of the ST, for nice high speed transfers and the uploading of code and graphics mid level). In the version released and in circulation, the DSP is busy de-crunching all the graphics on the fly, hence no sound. Someone (but I forget who), has been playing about with the source to store the graphics on (I think) an alpine/cartridge and thus free up the dsp for music and sfx, but I'm not sure if work is still being done on it or not.

I join in and shout it too as I fly out of there I really love however the way in T3k, the Yes! Yes! Yes! sample is replaced with Flossy (the prettiest sheep in the world) being all excited and bleeting like mad. -
Actually they said it is only reliable for 100,000 writes, but it will usually last many times that figure.

Well if you have access to an eeprom burner you can get the image on a number of Jaggy sites (cant remember where right now), but if not you'll have to get someone to burn you a copy. Im sure someone on the board will volenteer to burn you one and post it or maybe even do the mod for you, if you pay them.
-
Thats cool, but the Jag is only capable of addressing 6Mb via the cart bus surely? how did you get round that? using gpio lines or bank switching or some combination of the two?
-
Well now isnt that shiny Is it going to have any software onboard for handling of images (ala contiki) or debugging (ala alpines) or is it *just* a cartridge emulator?
-
Well that was a worthwhile addition to the thread. 902424 I agree! 902992 Me too!

A lot more than $20 lol, well done.

No, we're all just here for the lovely atmosphere and insightful questions.

An RF cable is an RF cable is an RF cable. Standard co-ax on one end, co-ax or phono on the other, pretty standard stuff .

Yep, that looks right, although the lack of gamma correction on my monitor makes the dark greys look darker than they are on my tv, but its looking spot on to me.

I wouldnt call them great graphics, but they are quite cute, and yeah, its a fun puzzle, keeps you on your toes.

...and sometimes Im kinda quick to snap at ppl. Sorry.

Ok, firstly, do the obvious checks: Have you got a game in (remember jags dont turn on without one)? Have you got the correct ac adaptor plugged in (the wrong one can blow up a jag)? Does tha ac adaptor actually work (test with your other Jag or a multi-meter)? Then do the next most obvious thing which is to search this forum (there's a link right up there), as this question gets asked exceptionally often (hell there's even a sticky about one possible cause of Jag-death).
