  1. It's a shame that there's so little profit made per unit shipped, otherwise there might almost be an opening in the market for a dedicated homebrew publishing and distributing firm.
  2. Limited edition runs really annoy me too, because my finances are also rather sporadic. While they are clearly easier for the developers (who presumably would rather develop new titles rather than perpetually manufacture old ones) it would be nicer if more games were available in larger quantities.
  3. I still think it needs a Minter mode, with shifting colours and particle explosions everywhere.
  4. I've been thinking the same thing for a while now. I would agree if the "some ST 3D code" in question wasn't a demoscene production. Atari's 3D library is incredibly poorly optimised and intended mostly as an example.

I think the problem here is how we're defining what it means to be "made for 2D / 3D" CJ you're arguing that there should be a complete pipeline in hardware, as there has been in many other systems of the late 90's to mid-2000's (I refuse to say naughties). Others (myself included) are arguing that having hardware that can accelerate 3D (matrix multiply units on both GPU and DSP, hardware z-buffering in the Blitter), and that aren't really that useful for 2D, shows that 3D was a design feature, even if the majority of the pipeline was still implemented in software. The interesting thing is, that modern graphics hardware is getting more and more reliant on shader programs, which are basically moving backwards, away from having the entire pipeline in hardware, and putting more and more of it back into the hands of the programmers, to implement tasks in software running on the GPU. Edit: Not that any of it really matters, it's what people do with the hardware that's important, arguments like this can get quite heated and don't really achieve anything.

Jaguar added extra features and abilities that enhance it's 3D abilities but also add to the 2D power. However Jaguar was never designed for texture mapping, and it is much stronger in 2D than 3D, certainly.
  8. Actually, that was more or less a joke AFAIK, there are a lot more NTSC TV sets that don't support 50 Hz than PAL set that don't support 60 Hz. So it's probably not a wise solution. Really? Well that's a bit poo, isn't it? I wonder how NTSC HDTV sets handle things? Then again, a lot of HTDV sets don't seem to like the non-interlaced signals the Jag and other old games systems produce anyway.
  9. Just force it into 50hz. I know almost all PAL TV's will accept PAL60 (NTSC size) signals. I'm sure the majority of NTSC screens should be able to accept PAL size signals, especially the more modern ones.
  10. Looking good. Don't interlace it though, all those single-pixel lines would flicker like crazy. I guess you could interlace it and then have it stretched 2:1 but that wouldn't really help.

  13. Put yourself on the waiting list then. It might take me some time to get through the list (it's already got more people on it than I have stock, for a number of different components), but I'll be ordering more components early next week (in between juggling job interviews and olympic tickets), and I'll do my best to keep making these as long as people keep wanting to buy them. It might take a long time, but if people can be patient with me I'll try to get everyone the controllers they want.
  14. Exactly. I'm not a part of Reboot, and I wasn't involved in the development of Superfly DX. If I had been, I would have suggested that they require a few less buttons, but what's done is done and they work just fine with all the buttons like they are.
  15. Is that a challenge? :-) Not really... you've already got 6 buttons on those controllers, and the minimum really is one button, but that's awkward.
  16. But you play the menu with six... but then unless you're going to use some kind of weird timing-puzzle, a menu realistically needs at least 4 buttons.
  17. By that point Reboot had sold a hundred copies on CD, and who knows how many downloads, so it was a lot easier to just add some extra buttons to the controller.
  18. Yes indeed. The original design was much simpler, just up/down (on a rocker switch), the big button and a small button for C... but then I realised that the code-entry screen requires left and right as well.

Yeah, well one is a test proggy and the other isn't released yet, so maybe they don't count Perhaps not, but at the same time he's not likely to modify the code to use the techref-suggested method for encoded input. Bus mice put a lot of strain on the input handling code and the processor running it, and are not very flexible in terms of sensitivity.
  20. None. Depending on how it was connected, the horizontal axis might work for Tempest 2000, but that's not the best way to connect a trackball to a Jaguar.
  21. It's cool, no offence taken. As for 2600 dev, it could work. Those controllers behave just like regular Jaguar controllers, except they only have buttons for up, down, left, right, B (big button) and C (small cancel button). Alternatively, if there is any demand for a 2600 version I could probably make some native ones... it's not like the 2600 has an especially complex circuit. Thanks man.

I did my best to keep the costs down, but it's not a simple thing to put together, remember this is made entirely from new components, not hacked up controllers, and I'm not making them on a big enough scale to really be able to drive my costs down by much. If I were making tens of thousands of them, they'd be dirt cheap... but somehow I don't think I can sell quite that many of them.

These controllers are being made during my free time, and as such there is no guarantee how many will be produced, or on the time-scale of their availability.   24. However, despite "rom" being a four letter word around here, the answer to your question is yes. The JagCD can quite happily read CDR's (which is how almost all homebrew and modern releases occur), and should be able to handle pirated games just fine, assuming you can produce a good copy (JagCD's aren't like PC CDROMS, the data is encoded as audio tracks).
