There are only two games that use the networking code, one was made by ICD, but the other by Thunderbird, who as we all know is a regular poster here. If we could persuade him to provide detailed in depth info on how the program interfaces with the catbox, someone could make a box thats compatible with BattleSphere, and would probably be compatible with AirCars too, then anyone writing new games that can network would just need to test with both boxes. However something tells me Thunderbird isnt going to release the info any more than ICD are.

A scart cable can have lines in it for RGB, Composite (both in and out), Sound, and something else I think which I forget, it just depends how its wired up (good tv's will also let you select between composite via scart and rgb via scart).

Iron Soldier 2. Cart or CD? What are the differences?
Tyrant replied to NebraskaDragon's topic in Atari Jaguar
There is that, and if your only rounding them off by a pixel or two on screen its not that bad I guess, I just remember how so many Nintendo 64 games looked... well like they're all cartoons and nothing is real. I craved for hard edges sometimes when playing them (thankfully I never owned one). -
My JagCD is 535C27057 and manufactured december 95. Oh, and I got it from the US, unboxed tho so not sure about its origins but I suspect it was allways in the US.

Iron Soldier 2. Cart or CD? What are the differences?

I understand that, but there is a danger of rounding everything, and a great many things (almost all man made) do have hard edges, at least from a small distance anyway. -
/me feels proud, and happy =) All variations in the cables, buttons etc are Atari's, I didnt even undo the wire cable tie on the lead. The only extra things inside the case are a little bit of wire which weighs nothing and the encoder, which is very light too. The knob is the only heavy thing there that I can think of (they do weigh a bit, I think its solid aluminum). Im really glad you enjoy it, good luck reaching beastly mode hehe (no, I havnt managed to get much past level 60). The bonus stages are weird, and have a bug in them (in Yak's code, not a bug with my encoders hehe), basically as you move one step left of right you start to move a certain speed, if you move another step round you go faster in that direction, up and down work the same as allways on buttons A and C, so its very confusing. Add to that the fact that sometimes there is an initial motion you cant get rid of, so you have to constantly correct cause you cant go straight, and the easiest answer is to leave a standard controler plugged into port 2 for the bonus stages. Its should be noted that the green road stages are a lot easier now tho hehe. Oh, and keep a controler in port 2 or close by, cause when you get a high score, you need to use it to enter your name (dont configure both ports to be for rotary or your kinda screwed (Yak didnt put in code for rotaries on the enter text screen)). When I first bought one to test I was quite disapointed too, but once its held in place in the controler and the knobs on I couldnt imagine using anything else. Actually I use mechanical ones, but they're very responsive and comfortible, and have a slight... well clicking but it dosnt click, it helps on menu's and bonus stages. I think you'll have a hell of a job getting it to work. ST mice, like most mice, are built arround a quite densely packed circuit board. Also I believe with official Atari mice (its been a while since I opened one), the emitter and detector are two seperate devices held in place in the plastic body of the thing, making it fairly hard to remove them. Also you'd have to make your own mounting hardware to hold all the parts in the right places. I think your best bet is to buy a ready made encoder housed in a solid package you can just drop into place. Also be aware that the inside of the Jag pad is very very limited in terms of space, so I think any kind of optical mech, especially a home made one, will need to be housed in a seperate box like Jedi Jeff's ones.

What's the big deal with polygons? Im sorry but back long ago (and still currently on devices like mobile phones) where technology is limited, people are creative and actually think about how to draw the game, not just how to draw 20 billion little triangles. Look at the 16 bit systems, the Atari ST for example, or the 16bit consoles. There are more different ways to draw games than I can count. Including many 3D technologies that didnt just draw triangles. Now days there is no creativity that I can see. Even games that use cartoon style graphics tend to draw the world as triangles and then make it look like it was drawn. I guess its the result of having the gaming industry driven by big buisness.

Iron Soldier 2. Cart or CD? What are the differences?

I think the original observation was made that not everything should have round corners. If you look in the real world, people do design things with hard edges, flat planes, and corners. If you round everything off you end up looking like a cartoon. -
Talking of NUON's, I would love to get one, but where should I look? also what specifically should I look for? I know the basic details of the technology, but not enough to know which models are worth spending money on, how much they're worth etc. Also were they ever sold in the UK or will I have to get one imported from America?

My Jaguar came yesterday! Impressions after day 1 . . .
Tyrant replied to NebraskaDragon's topic in Atari Jaguar
Syndicate needs a mouse, full stop. It could also use lots of in game help (or I could use a manual hehe, I've only got the loose cart). Oh, and to really enjoy tempest, you should get a rotary controler.plug> -
It looks like... well like a red fuji hehe. Since the logo is available somewhere as a 3DSMax model, all one needs to is slap some red marble paint over it and hay presto, a new red marble logo hehe. Oh yeah, and GET A REAL WEBHOST! hehe

Umm.... its a hovercraft.... sure they're pretty fast going straight, but they have (in real life) quite bad manuverability and they cant do the sudden turns and fast paced action called for in most games, which often arnt realistic anyway. I've never played the original, but I have HS:UL and I like it. Yes its hard to move arround sometimes, and the external view is almost useless, but I havnt noticed the fps, meening it cant be that bad, also the lighting and missions and stuff are very fun. I havnt played it enough to know it very well, but what I've had time to explore, I like, especially the way that being a hovercraft you can glide in one direction while spinning round and blowing away all the things coming up your rear end. Think about other games tho, on other platforms, the people who push the technology forwards, who reach the furthest limits of what is possible with current tech, often have to have low frame rates and make compromises to do it. I dont know if HS pushes the tech or is just badly written, but since the jag wasnt built for texture mapping I think it does a damned good job of it. -
Okies, a cheque shall be on its way to you today (I dont ever send cash). You might want to check out paypal and/or nochex if you buy and sell stuff over the net. In essence you tell them your bank details (they are trustable hehe), and then you can withdraw money from your account and transfer it into other peoples). For example my last auction, the payment was in my bank no more than 10 minutes after the auction ended. edit: Oh and if you do sign up for paypal, put my email in the referer field and I get 5 usd free

I really should get round to learning assembly, but I've so much else to do. I bought my Alpine with the intention of coding for the Jag, but alas time being the evil thing it is, I have only ever used it to upload a few bjl programs. One question tho... does the led get power from the battery or the jag itself? I've never seen it on, dispite changing the position of the write protect switch a few times. Also why does it need an indicator? being a toggle switch surely the switch is its own indicator... oh well, guess the designers wanted to put lights on it hehe (who dosnt like putting lights on things :-)

Talking of strange boxes... can anyone explain to me why I have sitting on my shelf a shrinkwrapped, boxed, copy of cybermorph? I bought it from someone on this board (sorry I dont remember who hehe), but I never did manage to work out the story behind it, why boxes for cybermorph even exist since they normally came as just a cartridge overlay and manual in the jaguar's box, right?
-
Changing subject a tiny bit, but... what is the little red led for? Is it a battery indicator (in which case mine's empty hehe) or something else?
-
Done, thanks. Paypal ok? Nochex? or I could send a paper cheque, but thats too low tech hehe.

As it happens, the next one should be up fairly soon, before christmas I was making up a couple of them, unfortunatly parties and things kinda disrupted it after the first one was finished, but I should have a couple more going up as soon as I get round to finishing them. Interestingly the hardest part of all is getting all the cables and components to lie down in just the right places to let the case close (a little tip to anyone who buys one of these... do not open the case, it's a real b*tch to get them back together, and also the screws might burr up, its a tight fit).

How much for a UK Keyboard (with a working mouse port? hehe) and how much for shipping it to the UK (London)?

I hate the jaguar logo with the white edge, it looks like they drew it on a white background and couldnt be bothered to clean it up when they cut it from the background. I was refering to the Atari logo with the rounded square box arround it, which is much newer I think, and in my mind is the logo Hasbro *spit* has invented to use to defile the Atari name. However the classic Atari logo wouldnt fit into the site design as well.
-
does anyone have a scan of this wonderful marble logo? sounds interesting. I have a fairly recent (last year) issue of Edge, the cover of which had a really cool 3D spinning Atari logo as a... that technique using ridged plastic to make images that move.
-
Very slick and distinctive design. I too prefer the "classic" logo, but it wouldnt fit that design so leave it as it is hehe.

Dont forget tho that most men are very interested in fast noisy machines, so a jet, especially a military one, would help your pulling power with men... then again since I assume most people here are stright men themselves (please dont take offence if your not), this may be another plus point for the horse .

Umm.... huh? When you click on the title of an attached file on the boards, the file downloads, I just tried. No menu's, just click and it opens.
