Hay, did I say it was ruined? lol its one of the best jag games arround, I just prefer the simplicity and clean look of cybermorph (probably why I allways blow up the vortex towers, even if there's no pods that could be near, I hate the black mess on the clean landscape hehe). But yes, please, please tell me the "secret" to killing that damned bee
-
Thanks for reminding me of something else I dont like about Battlemorph hehe, the weak spot on the boss's (if there is one) isnt easy to see, I've spent an age shooting at that bee, being blown up by its missiles, then deliberatly ramming it over and over to try and kill it. I think I managed a couple of times but normally nothing seems to hurt it. The music is cool and the underwater bits are really great. Im not sure about turning down the contrast/brightness to kill the artifects, but the texture mapping I think will look bad at any settings, since it's so large and pixelated in places, and just looks... not like the smoothness of cybermorph. Also I cant say Im a big fan of the loading weapons screen. Then again, Battlemorph is a totally uber game, just I think I prefer cybermorph hehe, had a nicer feel somehow.

I havnt played battlemorph as much as cybermorph, and havnt got very far in it yet, but I actually prefer the smooth gaurad shading of cybermorph. Perhaps cybermorph was a compromise on the designers vision of the look of the worlds, but I thought it was wonderful, and unlike any other game, battlemorph, while adding loads of great stuff, Im not sure I like all the texture mapping. Also, a silly thing really, but I hate the artifacts in the video sequences, they really detract from it for me. Since there really are only a few video sequences that are used at the begining and end of every mission, you'd have thought they could have cleaned them up better, even if it ment hard coding a little bit of code to fill black rectangles over the artifacts to make space look black and not have grey blocks in it.

The price will be decided by auction, I might start them at almost nothing and let the demand set the price, or for faster turn arround I might set shorter auctions (3 or 4 days) but with a starting price gaurenteed to make me at least some profit (alas Im out of a job at the moment so money is an issue). The resolution on them is either 32 or 36 pulses per revolution, I'll have to check the specifics, but its very responsive and allows for some very fast, or very controled moves (I quite often can leave it until the bonus... things, are almost to the lip of the shape before quickly dashing across and grabbing them:P). I wont set a fixed price and sell them first come first served, cause I really dont like the idea of people who come later missing out. There is no perfect way to sell things which are very limited in supply (they take quite a lot of work to make and Im busy (and lazy)), but I think ebay is the lesser of the two evils.

I know I've been away from the boards for quite a long time now, but Im planing to make some more rotary controlers, since I have time now. I'll go and buy some components and a new saw blade tomorow, but I'd be interested to see how much interest there is in them. All the specs, and pictures and stuff can be found in earlier threads(thankfully AtariAge keeps every post and can be searched, so go and have a poke arround if you dont remember what they're like). Tag a post on the end of here if your interested in one, like the other's they'll be put up on ebay for reasons of fairness, and its just less hassle than running a waiting list, but I'd like to know roughly how many people are interested before I start.

The 3DO version makes a half second load in order to show a death anim, which allways gets ppl acusing me of causing lag to cheat lol. I dont have a Jag version but it is the only one where the sprites are the right size relative to the playfield. Really tho you should play this game on the full size large model arcade box, its incredible hehe, wish I could a) afford and b) find one (oh and sorry for reviving dead threads but I've been gone for ages and these are all new for me)
-
You make me sick! (lol) Well, at least now I have extra motivation to make my millions so I can buy all that off you hehe, I *WANT* the VR, all of it, allways have. Seriously tho, grats and loads of wootage to getting it all. Oh and nice design on the website, I wish more ppl did slideshows, meta-refresh is too often overlooked in galleries.

If you missed this post before, here it is again, I have another rotary controler on eBay, there's just over a day left on the bidding. I dont know how many more of these I will make, the less interest there is (ie the less bids are placed) the less likely I will be to make more, especially since large parts of my time are now occupied in other matters. All the details about the controler are on the auction page, so go take a look and place a bid if you would like one of these, they really do add so much to Tempest, and I cant gaurentee how many more I'll make or when, or even if I will make more (tho I probably will, one day).

I seem to remember that STf's had internal floppies but no modulator, STm's had a modulator but presumably an external floppy, and STfm's had both, STe's being a tottally revamped beast with far higher specs. Oh and I did say I know nothing about s-video, but now I do, kinda, thanks .

Yak was under a hell of a lot of presure from Atari to make D2K into something it really should never have been (they wanted very big sprites, very fast action, etc), and I believe he wasnt exactly feeling his best for most of the time he was writing it, thus it isnt his best game ever, but it is still a great game and an important part of any Jaguar collection.

I just put up my second Rotary Controler on eBay, sorry its been a while but I've been a) kinda busy, and b) very lazy hehe . Anyways links to it on: eBay.co.uk and eBay.com. I wish you all the best of luck, I will try to make up a few more soon, when I have time.

The last I heard about Jagulator, which was a loooong time ago, it only emulated some of the processors, and not completely, thus any game that tried to use the chips of commands that wernt supported wouldnt run, I dont know how its progressing but I would guess most intro sequences are done largely on the 68k since they dont require much power, and 68k emu's have been arround forever, so that part is probably finished, the custom chips probably arnt.

I forgot how good it feels... BUT NOW I'VE GOT THE FEELING!
Tyrant replied to Htbaa's topic in Atari Jaguar
Do you meen an analog joystick or digital? a digital joystick is identical to a D-pad so it isnt hard to do, a few games support analog sticks, atari had writen the specs even if they never made any controlers (anyone have an official proto?). Im not sure about blue lightning but it would make sence, it was done by the team who made... some other game, I forget if it was cybermorph/battlemorph or raiden, either way they I believe worked closely with Atari and it seems logical to include support for an analog stick in a flight game. -
I dont know what s-video actually is, but I once saw instructions on how to connect up a composite video output, which I think is the same thing, I believe the mod was (and it was a looong time ago so dont quote me on this), that the RF modulator takes a composite input, so the ST provides both RGB for the monitor, and Composite for the modulator, but dosnt give a composite port, but, since the signal exists you just need to hook up a socket. Then again I could be totally wrong, but it might help your research.

Syndicate is recognised as an absolutely classic game... then again I guess the translation to Jaguar didnt work very well, I have it and cant get on with it at all, then again Im lacking the overlay and manual. I think the biggest problem with games like this (and cannon fodder) however is that there's no mouse, and without one the control just dosnt feel right. -
Lol, I have no idea what I'll do with a gig, but the more space I can get the better. Since I've managed to fill up every drive I've owned for a pc with useless crap, Im sure I'll end up running out of space on an st too so why not start with as much spare as possible? I had the same thoughts about memory, the only problem is as you guessed, I dont have a manual and I've no idea at all how to disable the onboard ram (which if Im not mistaken is actually soldered onto the board, if it was socketed I could try just unplugging it, but Im not going to even try desoldering chips.
-
Hmm... 200Mb is a little small (well no its not but I'm going to try to get a gig), I have an interface board on order already, just need to get a case / psu and cable now. Also I dont have an STE, if I did it would be easy, just take out the old ram and put in some new ram, I have an STFM with 512k onboard, as well as a Marpet Xtra Ram delux board with 4 simms, logically giving me 4.5 Mb (since I have 4 1Mb simms in it now) but instead two of them are ignored giving me 2.5Mb.... anyone know why?
-
Your still going to put them on eBay as a dutch auction tho, right? Oh and for anyone interested, my next one should be put up on eBay in a day or two, now Im back home from my holiday. I'll post about it on a seperate thread when I put it up.

Said by the number one fan of Thunderbird. Do you have no shame about your relentless self promotion?

I have two TV's, a nice sony one that will show anything properly, and a cheaper but larger one upstairs that is pal only. When I put an NTSC signal into that one, it comes out with lots of grain and no colour, also I think the sound is missing too. This is I believe the normal behaviour of most pal tv's when given an ntsc signal. When I plugged my pal jaguar with R140 removed in, it came out crystal clear with all its colours and sound, just like it did with R140 in place.

How many different Jaguar Variations are there?
Tyrant replied to Thunderbird's topic in Atari Jaguar
The switch itself is part of the modulator, which is I believe a ready made component that was just attached to the board, however, the inner metal shield has a hole for the switch (on all models) and the us models have the hole and words molded into the bottom plastic case too. UK ones dont -

I doubt they would have just snapped bits off to make case differences, since Pal ones totally lack any trace of the switch found on NTSC ones, I think they would have molded totally seperate bottom cases for the french ones in the same way. Interestingly the internal shielding does still have a rectangular hole in it on pal ones, and with some versions of the RF modulator the tuning "screw" sticks through it a tiny distance (not enough to touch the plastic case) -
ROFLMAO! I wasnt, I used to use my "big-fat-headphones" all the time, and the plug on the end was forever breaking (actually the cable got damaged more often). After a while I got so tired of re-attaching it (often while I was out trying to listen to my minidisks, using wire twisted round and sticky tape), that I opened up the case of the left ear and installed a 3.5mm jack socket in there, so now I can use any old male-male cable and all is good (and I have a male-male cable with me for connecting other equipment). As for your explenation, thank you very very much, looks most helpful indeed, and I shall try to do it after I get back from holiday. On the subject of modding tho, as dumb as this sounds, I took a UK (pal) Jag, and broke off resistor R140, as all the plans say you should, to make it NTSC. However, while I've only had time to do a quick test, when plugged into my TV upstairs, which shouldnt be able to show ntsc images, it works fine (on both RF and scart). This implies to me that either there is still a connection across R140 (it looks clean to me tho), or that there is something else that needs doing as well. When I get back I'll upload one of the badcoder demo's which I think print on screen if they detect pal or ntsc.

Yes they are fun and silly, but at the same time, why do I wear a Jaguar T-Shirt sometimes? Because Im a Jaguar fan, and if I am going to have a rank or badge pinned on me automatically I'd like it to reflect what I actually like, and not just be 2600 games. While Im sure the 2600 is a wonderful system, and without a doubt a cult icon, I dont happen to belong to that cult, Im a Jag Perv, a totally different breed and another, but very different technical marvel.
-
Again Im quite late on this thread, but I think this is the best idea I've heard all day, I for one am a Jaguar Perv almost exclusively, and have never heard of half the games in the rankings (actually I dont think I've heard of any of them lol). I dont like being a "Chopper Commander", and would much prefer to switch to a set of Jaguar titles, still based on rarity (unless I end up as a "Club Drive Driver" or some other terrible game like that, in which case I would turn the "opt out" option on, assuming its in place yet).
