  1. Are you really sure the colour and size options are a good thing? Sure idiots could post like this using html, but people who know html know not to post annoying messages like this one (yes this is an example of how anoying someone can be very easily with the new board features. Remember the price for flexibility and freedom is anarchy and chaos. Sometimes a little anarchy is a good thing, on a nicely presented website, it isnt.<--- This line is imposible to read because its so small and in a low contrast colour. As you can see from this example (dont forget the tiny text you can barely read), too many options is a bad thing in the hands of the imature, and for example posting an entire message in blue is an example of how easily a message board can become totally chaotic and ugly. AtariAge has a very nice look to it, lets try to keep it that way, please? And yes, I know my post looks hideous, that was the point, my appolagies to the eyes of everyone who reads it.
  2. That's actually four little, faceless people, although I got a chuckle out of your description.. ..Al Something tells me they'll be killed off as soon as possible.... right? They really dont fit with the rest of the site, neither do most of the graphics you've used, like the post new topic buttons... they look nice, but they dont look like the rest of AtariAge, so unless your planing to change the grfx throughout the entire site (a mistake in my humble opinion), I'd try to make everything look the same, that is what I loved so much about the old board.
  3. Yes, looks like it was the compression, IE's behaving properly now, but noticibly slower because of the lack of compression. I dont think it was a very common error, it was only because I had to interupt the page loading lots to begin with when the shift-click problem was there. Oh and can you put the size of text in the textarea's up to a normal size? In fact can you take out all referances to font size and let peoples browsers pick a default size? While I dont have a problem with my eyes, people who do really hate having pages where if you set it to "large fonts" it comes out 2pts bigger, as is the case where a html page specifies an absolute size for text.
  4. Maybe I am the only one who has a strong dislike for this new board then... I doubt it tho, if you take the time to look at all the little things that are just... wrong... boundless enthusiasm for all that is new can be a big mistake, learn to be jaded and cold like me and you'll live longer Oh and I must ask.... WTF is that little tray of 4 flowers doing just left of the (overly large) "Forums" word?
  5. Im not trying to be too harsh, and it definatly should in no way be taken personally, I really love the site, and its owners, and I meen no offence to you. I dont like the phpbb at all its true, perhaps Im just being resistant to change because Im used to the old board, but I think its more than that. Im also critical about this installation of it mainly because of the rather drastic shift in apearance, the whole feel of the board has changed and it dosnt feel like... home, any more. Obviously for the most part issues of style and appearance can be changed, I think many of the board behaviours are inbuilt tho, like.. for a rather simple example, having a flat text box... why did they go to the effort to make the box flat when a 3D recessed <textarea> looks far superior and requires less code to generate? The same goes for these little prievew and submit buttons? They look like html graphical submit buttons (pictures), but they act like windoze command buttons... somebody went to a lot of effort to work out how to do that effect, and I am left wondering why they bothered, because either a flat graphic that dosnt push down when you click it, or a normal grey button, would have looked better and required several tmes less html to generate (and why does the prieview button have a bold border? I assume its the form's default button, but when typing in a textarea enter acts as an enter, so the default button is useless and looks ugly with its bold border). Wow that really is a rant and a half... I think I'll stop now but really, please think about switching back... please?
  6. Yes, the stylesheet bug is coming up still, tho I think it may only happen if you dont let the page load completely. Im on IE 6.2600 (coincindence?) btw. As for other suggestions, just... the whole feel is wrong, the list of boards feels sooo cold and empty, you should definatly add more orange to it, and just in general the feel is off... also I thing the board is almost too advanced. I've allways been a strong fighter for usenet postings to be in pure ascii, and with this board, it looks like the tech-toys are taking over. 90% of people for instance dont need to change the size or colour of their fonts, and if they do, they use a little html to do it, I never much liked the ubbcode buttons on the old board, and the little toolbars on this one are taking things too far, not to mention the upswelling of little graphical emoticons, which allways annoy the hell out of me because when running a monitor at 1280x1024, and sitting in excess of 18 inces away from it, they become just tiny yellow dots and I have to strain to make out if they're happy or sad. At least the old ones were easy to see, and with less variations to learn, I could tell at a glance what they were. In general the colour scheme is wrong, the old board looked perfectly like the rest of the site, with large ammounts of blue and orange, and the same font sizes, the same size boxes for title bars, etc, this one looks... wrong. Oh and why am I suddenly an "Atari Amature"?!?! Didnt the old ranking scheme carry over?
  7. The old board marked posts as new based on a cookie it set at the begining of each session (a session is the time from when you first goto the board until you close all internut exploder windows), thus in order for the current "new" messages to be made old, you have to close all your browser windows, this system however seems not to do it that way. As for browser preferances, I use IE simply because it runs very smoothly, almost never crashes (on my system anyway), and is the universal standard since 90% of the population uses it. There's no good making a board that requires all of the people to use it to change a key bit of software like a web browser is there? If the board uses incompatible html, then the board needs to be re-writen or replaced. I know the phpbb has a poll option, which I guess the admins disabled in this installation, which is a shame since I'd love to start a poll about who would pay to go back to the old board... so I guess we'll all just have to add posts like "I'll pay" to this thread
  8. While the phpBB may well be a nice bit of code, and is without a doubt a billion times cheaper than the ubb, it just isnt the same, and it has some huge horrible bugs (perhaps its just your config, but I've used this program before and it really pisses me off. If cost was an issue with the UBB Im sure we can all chip in and pay for it, I for one would definatly pay you to go back, I think you'll find most of the regulars here would too. As for bugs... the first, biggest, and most annoying one I have seen is that I can no longer open things in new windows. I have the forum index bookmarked, when I get in, I go straight to the Jaguar board, and then shift-click on all of the topics with new posts... except this new board over-rides IE's default shift-click behaviour, as well as opening the post in a new window, it also opens it in the old window. On top of that, when I hit back with my main window to return to the index I get presented with the entire stylesheet code as visible text before the top of the page, and then of course, the whole page looks wrong because the style sheet is missing. I believe this is an error in internut exploder, but its still a horrible mess, and never happened with the old board. Also the whole... look and feel of the old board was much much nicer, Im sure you've spent a lot of time preparing the new board, but I really must say it is a horrible downgrade from the ubb. Sorry. I would strongly urge you to set up a paypal donation box so we can buy another copy of the ubb, if money was the issue that forced this change.

I did all that work and you dont even have the decency to use an ST / Falcon? what is the world coming to when we get infiltrated by amoeba users. (yes incase you hadnt noticed I am being a little sarcastic, amoeba's may be crap machines and the arch rivals of Atari, but Im not so xenophobic as to actually dislike somebody just because they have no taste).
  10. Ok, this got me interested, so I did a little digging on yehoo for you I managed to find this page (in german) about the CD, but its not official, it appears to be from a sci-fi music club with streaming realplayer files. To translate it (badly), use the ever-helpful Babel Fish. There are also some short samples on there, but click the links in the german page, since the Babel Fish will try to translate the binary data of the mp3 lol. I also then managed to find an american company who I think still have it and you may be able to get a copy (if you do, please send me some mp3's of it, it sounds like nice trancy kinda music). I'd probably contact them before you order, to make sure its not an out of date page I found, and that they have them in stock still. Good luck, and I hope that was helpful. btw if you just search for "radium arkos" you'll find the most results, the "return of the cosmic curiers" bit gets cut off on most places. There were many more links I didnt check out on yahoo, so hopefully you can find something more if you want to dig arround a bit more. Lol, like an idiot I forgot to paste the link to the site which had the cd on their lists The order form link is at the bottom of the loooong list of cd's. [ 06-09-2002: Message edited by: Tyrant ] I then found another site, which has a review of it, in english this time, and an extra bit of info to help in your search quote [ 06-09-2002: Message edited by: Tyrant ]

  12. quote: Originally posted by Atariken64: it was because it was called sonic 2's day or sonic tuesday. tuesday nov 24 1992, if i remeber rightly..... then there was mortal monday fatal friday for MK games.... Thats the right date, but the only reason its embedded in my memory is because its the construction cheat lol, 01, 09, 09, 02, 01, 01, 02, 04
  13. A little off topic here, but can anyone guess the reason why the only date I remember in relation to any game (I think it was release date, but not sure), was for sonic 2 on the megadrive (or genesis for all you americans). Answers on a postcard, first to guess correctly wins a small pile of kudos.
  14. I for one would go to germany, assuming of course I have the cash at the time. We could of course set up a pc in one corner of the room with a webcam for all those people who cant make it lol, let me at least see what they're missing .

Everyone will have to travel a long way probably, the whole idea is so everyone can get together from all across europe... logically that requires people to travel.
  16. Each time I finish one (apart from the first two which Im keeping ), I'll put it on eBay, with a very low starting price (below the cost to make them), but then it depends how many people are biding on them. I will make as many as I can, in order to keep up with demand, however I cant give an exact figure of how many I will make, it depends on my free time, the cost and availibility of components, and how much they're selling for.
  17. Of course I will, and I'll post it on the JI2, not that I read there.
  18. quote: Originally posted by AtariKari: Sweet! I got sniped when the last one went up on eBay. When and where? I think the knobs Im goina use are out of stock at the moment, but as soon as they get some more I'll get them sent to me and knock out a few pads, see how much interest there is (tho it looks like its quite high). As for pictures... here ya go, took a few today, the quality isnt great but you can still see what it looks like http://www.geocities.com/tyrant_of_arx/
  19. Well my little celeron 300 will suffice then, its my most uber machine (sad I know but I've never needed to upgrade much). Your lucky to be able to make 4Mb games, arnt 4Mb cards really rare?
  20. D'you think a celeron 333 would do the trick? Oh and dont forget there is a useful little dos app called moslow, which runs as a tsr and just eats huge ammounts of cpu time, so your pc runs much slower. Its designed for playing old games where the game speed is a direct function of the cpu speed, and you should be able to get it from any abandonware site.
  21. I just managed to get a scaore of 1,273,804. As for rotery controls, the ones Im putting together are just like a normal jaguar controler, except where the d-pad is, there is a knob in its place, I will try to take a photo to show you better if you want, and of course when I sell them there will be pictures on the auction page.
  22. Ok, as I understand it, and I think Im accurate in all of this... A Stubulated jag is the official device atari sold to developers, its a basic domestic jaguar like all others, with the exception that it has a new boot rom, called the stubulator, and it has a 10 pin data cable which plugs into the alpine board, in order to facilitate the interactive debuging features, like stopping all the code and looking at it on a pc / st connected to the alpine with the alpine's own cable. I dont know if flash roms would work, but I believe you could just use the alpine as a flash rom cart. The only difference is it uses battery backed up ram instead of real flash chips, and it has extre features for debugging. Oh and the interface to the pc is different, but Im sure you can upload images built for flash carts onto alpines and play them fine (on the dev jag tho, alpines dont work in normal jags, I dont think anyway, anyone know what does happen if you try?) Can someone tell me more details (like the techie reason) why the uploads dont work with modern pc's? Dosnt it use a standard paralel port? or is it the requirement about it being bidirectional and most pc's cutting costs and not being? Or is... I thought paralell ports used "clear for rx" and "clear for tx" lines to allow devices of all speeds to communicate properly.
  23. I've been trying to find a "68000 assembily for dummies" book (just to see if there is one, the concept of a "dummy" learning 68k is a joke). So far however, all I've managed to find is this:
  24. My prievious best score (without a rotery control) was 687,000, with my rotery controler, I got 1,032,000 on my first game, starting from level 1. So I think I would have to say they honestly make a big difference yes (and no Im not just saying that because I'll be selling some soon ).
