What's a PStone control? and you dont have to be a concert pianist, you just need to type s-e-t-u-p then rebuind the keys onto home, end, del, pgdn, for the normal movement and ins and pgup for strife hehe, makes life very easy

  2. To strafe properly you need to be able to turn and strafe at once, quite often in opposite directions (so called circle strafing). I dont remember how Jag Doom works, but Im priety sure you cant do two things at once, even with a pro controler (its a real shame Atari didnt make new codes for the extra buttons).

  3. Is it only me or does anyone else really hate Syndicate's controls? Games like Syndicate, and Cannon Fodder, really suffer from not having a mouse. Am I the only one to think Syndicate on the jag really kinda sux? The graphics could be done on a 16 bit machine, the interface is a real pain, and its just waay too complex a game to have as little on screen help as it does. There's almost no pointers on screen as to what icons do, how to do things, etc. Its a shame cause I've only briefly played it on pc, and really liked it, but its too confusing on jag, especially when I dont have an overlay.

  4. I clocked it!!

Ok I did it on my 3DO, but the levels should be the same. It was hard, but not really all that hard imvho. Would have been a lot easier with a mouse tho, try getting the pc (or ST) version to play. The only level I really *needed* a strategy guide for was the last phase of the last mission, where you have to devide your squad into four teams, complete the mission with no wasted weapons or dead men, and do the whole thing inside 99 seconds. Oh, and there's no map either.

Trust me, the game is absolutely classic, and well worth trying to clock, just wait till you get a helecopter with homing rockets, its soooo fun.

Your evil swearword filter blocked out my calling homing rockets h o m o rockets, which is clearly a joke and not an insult to homosexuals (some of my best friends are gay btw before anyone starts accusing me of things).

  5. Would any proud owners of a Tempest Soundrack CD be generous to rip it to MP3? Yes I know its evil and illeagal and all that, but on my budget (ie zero) its the best way to get music, and I really do adore the tempest music (especially if it has the jupiter ribbon bonus stage music).

  6. Ok, finally managed to get STEem working again (it appears if the files are read only, steem complains about an invalid rom file), I tried out the game. Its really priety damned cool, well done. Sound was a bit buzzy, but then STEem's sound isnt great. Many of the levels are a real pain in the ass tho hehe.

    Nice work, well done.

  7. Well I need to buy a friend a dvd for his bday, (and have it imported), and since I live so close to the edge money wise I dont know if I can afford them (lol), but I would like, even though I dont have a JagCD (yet) hehe, I will get one when I get a job. I'll let you know in a week or so if I want them, cool? How much d'you think shipping to the uk would be btw?

  8. Thats because the happ board is for a single spinner, obviously a mouse encoder would have both an x and y "spinner", hence four outputs, plus power and buttons, and ground, which works out as being more than would fit on a ps/2 connector, so they must be compressed somehow, anyone know how?

And thanx for the info about Nuon.

ARrgh my bad, was really stressed, my eyes simply skipped over the prg lol, however, on winston it refuses to run, just loads, then goes to a black screen and sits there, I've tried both from the emulated hard drive and a floppy. I might pull out my real ST later and test on that (I need to swap the keyboard over on it anyway).

This also takes care of your pulse sequence questions.

Hmm... ok, I'll probably have to use a happ controler, or maybe an ST mouse (I dont think the encoder chip on PC mice gives XA/XB/YA/YB since there arnt enough pins on a ps/2 connector for that and power and buttons).

4). If you can find a used standard Jaguar controller on

e-bay, your easiest solution will be, gut the controller. Then, you have

a PCB with all of the button contacts there, as well as a nicely molded

cable. Some people will probably scream at me for advocating the

destruction of precious Jag controllers, but hey - they can't be that darn

    rare!

I have actually found the chips for sale, since I dont really want to murder some Jag controlers (which are very common btw).

Forgive my ignorance, but whats Nuon? I know I've heard the name before but I've no idea what it is.

  11. Thanks for the info. I'll go pick up some of them. With hindsight, what d'you think the effect on sales would have been if Atari hadnt included a 68000 in the Jag? There would have been less games initially, but developers would have been forced to use the hardware properly and make games that were visually impressive and make a real impact in gamers minds.

    Discuss.

  12. Well I will definatly want to be writing code for the Jag eventually, however I need a good few months of study at least before I even get close to being ready to code small things. I would also like to get a real alpine board to work on (Could one develop on a flash cart? obvously it wouldnt have interactive debuging, but it could work, right?)

I think tho the best idea is to try and talk a pro developer (one of the Batlesphere ppl maybe?) to write a shortish text on the subject, as well as getting hold of the official atari docs, which I think I saw a little while ago.

Consider me drafted then hehe, I allready have quite a few links saved, I'll have another dig arround when I wake up and stick a bunch of links in an email for you.

Oh, and just a thought, but have you considered putting a short summery page on each machine's... when you enter a section. Its obviously your site, but if it was mine, I'd put up a little short page giving a quick summery of the machine, its specs, history, etc. rather than just jumping into the rarity guide, I'd put a little preface intro in there.

  14. Its a real shame then that BS is so expensive. Have you thought about adding a programing section to Jag part of the site? There is a load of info out there about Jag programing, but its really hard to track down, it would make a nice adition to put together a well organised collection of docs, maybe even try to get some people who've had expierence writing comercial games to write some stuff. Im not really going too off topic here since Im sure with a lot of docs and support people could write new really high spec games, and unfortunatly there arnt any good sources of info that I've yet found.
