  2. It's an internal. I've got a new belt and removed the circuit boards and magnetic plates but can't see any belt and I'm stumped as to how to proceed.

There's no belt in Sony's drive... I had the same problem once, the drive was broken so i saved the head and use it in other drive...

  3. I've heard 8 weeks and 10 weeks and still nothing! If you are saying 6 month wait is possible I would not want to buy from that seller because your ebay protection or ability for file a claim runs out after some time....to risky if you are spending a large sum of money.

The longer waits are using the cheapest option possible. You can't expect to pay $5 or $10 for shipping from South America and have it get here fast. For that amount what usually happens is the package isn't put on a plane, or even a ship, it usually sits around in the local post office or delivery company until someone gets around to putting it on a truck (assuming they don't steal it first) and it has to make the journey up through Central America and Mexico on the roads with all the hazards that entails. Drug dealers or bandits could end up hijacking the delivery truck or a corrupt police officer or government official confiscates the truck until they receive an appropriate bribe, or the driver decides to spend a week visiting relatives before continuing on his way. Someone might decide to try to ship something illegal into the country, which holds the truck up at the border until customs finishes inspecting every package. The driver might run out of cocaine on his way up so he decides to sell some of the packages he is hauling to buy more. All kinds of crap happens that might delay or damage your package or cause it to disappear when you use the cheapest option. That's why USPS doesn't do overseas surface mail anymore. It's too risky.

Situation in México is not as bad as you think, or the news make you think. It's lazines and cheapness on the vendor's side the reason why you get your package late... anyway...
