Just picked up a Sears heavy but will have to post back with the serial when it gets here. Definitely a Sunnyvale, though. Gray power supply, says Sears where it would have the Atari logo on the paddles if it was an Atari Sunnyvale heavy and the joysticks don't say "TOP" on them. A nice companion for the Sears light sixer I got recently.

Review of the "New" Atari Haunted House
OldAtarian replied to ComputerSpaceFan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Same here, since I have 64 bit version of Windows 7. That's why I'm hoping it comes out for the 360, as that's the only console I have right now. I wonder if they realize that 64-bit Windows has gone mainstream since XP 64-bit and they will be losing a ton of money by not marketing to the users of 64-bit Windows. -
If it runs Windows or Linux it's not an Atari, so don't bother.

It looks to me like the business model is going to be sell the device cheap and get the money back in subscription fees at the other end, the same model that cell phones use, which means you'll probably have to go through a credit check before they'll let you buy one and you'll be able to connect to their servers with it and you'll have to commit to a long term service plan.

At least he CAN sell it for something, unlike a download. What sense is there in spending almost the same $50 and not even having the option? Absolutely. If I pay $50 for a game and sell it on for $20, I'm only out $30. If I download a game for $50, I'm out the full $50. There's also the collectible aftermarket to consider. The game might be worth $20 today, but in the future it might turn out to be an R8,9, or 10 because nobody bought it and I can get back more than I paid for it.
-
This is why you do some research by reading reviews and asking other people who have played it how they like it before you shell out the money and if you're still not sure you wait until the price comes down. $20 for a disappointing game is a lot easier to take than $60. If a game is really so horrible that nobody is buying it, it won't take long before it ends up on the clearance rack anyway.

This is what happens when you stop making your own consoles and go software only. When we see a worthy successor to the Dreamcast, then we'll start seeing good games from Sega again.
-
Buying a system for one game is never a good idea, and they've been hyping GT5 for so long that it can only be a disappointment no matter how good it is.

Wii is a faster Gamecube with motion controllers and 90% of the games for it are junk. Nintendo's own games, cross platform games, and a few top tier third party games are the only good games it has. Most of the games come from the likes of Majesco and a bunch of others nobody ever heard of. The games situation is almost as bad as the 2600 at the time of the big crash. I download more classic games for the Wii than I buy in boxes because good releases are too few and far apart for it.

My 360 finally red ringed after 4 years and they still fixed it free.

Get a 360 for most games and a Wii for exclusives. Honestly, almost everything on the PS3 is also out for 360 and 360 has a lot more games that the PS3 doesn't because it's been out longer. Most of the PS3 exclusives have been underwhelming to date. I think I can count on one hand the number of PS3 exclusives I would actually play regularly and it's not worth me buying another system for those few games. I don't consider Blu Ray a plus, either, because regular DVD movies look almost as good upscaled on most TV's and at the viewing distances most people sit at, anyway, so using your 360 to upscale your DVD's is just as good and Blu Rays are still more expensive than DVD's. XBox live also destroys Sony's online. Someone posted it would cost a fortune to play XBox Live, I want to ask how poor do you have to be for $50 a year to be considered a fortune? That's less than some new games cost.

Says it doesn't work with 64-bit OS, so that leaves me out. -
Cool. Ebay? How did you verify the springy sticks etc? I only ask because sometimes in pics its hard to tell if the joysticks are really CX-10's since most of them are missing the hex disks. They don't have the word TOP written over the up/forward position.

Not sad at all, I would love to have that collection, but the Atari 8bit versions are going for stupid money right now and I could never afford to put together a complete collection... I see you have them across many formats, do you have any complete series for a specific machine? or you just have one of each title no matter what machine it came out on? Get a TI99. It's one of the few systems you can still get Infocom games for cheap.

Wait a minute. I thought Atari had their own factory in Taiwan? I read about it having been converted to apartments a while back.

All in UK/Ireland, though.

Even including the Sears version, you're going to get a lot more no votes than yes votes.

$32 shipped, Sears Sunnyvale heavy with gray power supply, paddles say Sears on them, and springy joysticks with a few common games and all hookups.

For only $5000 AUD it can be yours eBay Auction -- Item Number: 120632673628 and that's the rare non-working version. Because it's an NTSC cart and he tried playing it in a PAL 2600. Still, anyone who pays $5000 for any 2600 cart is out of their mind. What happens once you've spent the money and the cart suddenly dies? If there's only a handful it's unlikely anyone who has one would allow the ROM to be dumped because that would hurt the value of the original if anyone who wanted to play the game could just play it in Stella instead of trying to buy the original cart, so with a dead cart and no ROM dumps to reburn the game to a new EPROM you're left with a useless hunk of plastic.

Sears Video Arcade II/Atari 2800 have 4 joystick ports?
OldAtarian replied to OldAtarian's topic in Atari 2600
Seems like a waste to add to the complexity and manufacturing cost to support a small number of games that allowed more than 2 players when you could just make people buy paddles if they wanted to play them. -
Stadium Events is far more rare than Battlesphere Gold and will never be produced again. Another run of Battlesphere Gold, as unlikely as it is, could cause values to plummet.

I wondered what the A- person offered if he considers $800 to be reasonable. If he was offered anywhere between $500 and the $800 that he obviously wants for it and still has it then he's not interested in selling. Move along, nothing to see here. He's just using CL as a price check when he could come to a forum like this and know what it's really worth.
-
We should have a stickied thread where everyone can post their latest conquests. It should be here in the Marketplace or some other common area, though, otherwise you'd need a separate one for every system.

http://www.museo8bits.com/atari_2800.htm Look at these pics. They clearly show this model has 4 joystick ports. Why? Do any games actually support more than 2 players?
