Say that you were dumped back into the 1960's...
OldAtarian replied to Streck's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Wouldn't even want to try considering you programmed many of them by flipping switches and waiting for lights to light up and if you made a mistake you had to start over again because there were no editors to proof your work. Paper tape and files full of punch cards? No thanks. -
Texas Instruments TI-99/8 and Other Unreleased
OldAtarian replied to ColecoFan1981's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I read that most of the prototypes for the 99/8 exist in motherboard form only. There's probably less than a handful that are complete, and maybe not even that many. -
19" Hi res mono released by Atari for the TT is all I can find. Not sure who made them for Atari. Phillips would be a guess, possibly Viking in fact I would lean towards Viking because they had a 19 inch monitor upgrade for the ST(e)/Mega out at that time, too. Scroll down to the picture of the TT http://yescrew.atari.org/eng/atari.htm

I think it had to do with export controls on cryptography from the US. I've seen 2600 jrs. manufactured in Ireland, though. Couldn't they have manufactured them there with the software check? They wouldn't have been exporting them then. And technically unless they were making the 7800's in the US, how would they have been exporting them in the first place if they went straight from the factory in Taiwan to Europe? They would have been going from one country outside the US to another country outside the US. That's not exporting.

I want Time Pilot! Make it so.

Stuff that old hardly ever turns up anymore. Goodwill has a bad habit of taking any old electronics donations and selling them to a recycler without even giving the public a chance to buy them, so it's very hit or miss whether you'll find anything old and electronic there. Salvation Army is a bit better, I've found a few things there, but for the most part hardly anyone donates this sort of thing anymore because very few people don't know that you can good money for them on ebay so why donate?
-
Dang, how do I miss the good ones LOL... Couple of nice things there! I admit, I got pretty lucky on that one. The auction was well photographed but very poorly described. I just happened to click on it and notice the Quasimodo... Even with that, I expected the selling price to be much higher. I have two of those Atari Word Processors with the ring binder. Everyone keeps wanting to buy one off me but I've had them for so long I'll never get rid of them.

I was 9 years old when the VCS was released and can even remember when dedicated Pong consoles were still new on store shelves. Didn't get my own until the Vader was released, though.

Since label variations can play a role in determining price, it's hard to say if you have a lot of sealed boxes. Unless there's some giveaway clue on the box that tells you what's inside, it's going to be difficult to determine precisely. For example, I was just looking at a page with Pitfall variations and there were several from Activision alone. That doesn't include all the shady companies like Zellers and others who ripped them off and made their own carts.

We all know how badly the official 2600 Pac Man sucks and that the 2600 is capable of doing better, but has anyone actually done it and released a better version of Pac Man?
-
Does the 7800 use a lock out chip to prevent unauthorized games like the NES and Jaguar did?
-
Can it do this?

Bought a Turbografx 16: What should I get for it?
OldAtarian replied to Lendorien's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Splatterhouse, Bonk's Adventure. What more do you need? -
Nice homebrew. A lot better than the official 2600 version.

Not the Pokey version. Wait, are you talking about Pokey the chip or Pokey the ghost?
-
They were only like $7.99 when they were new and they made millions of them and they're not that old.

Been there, done that, have stacks of worthless commons that I can't get rid of as a result. Buying a bulk lot just for one or two carts is almost never as good an idea as it first sounds especially when you've done it a few times. I won't do it anymore for anything less than an R8. Those guys who make up those packages know exactly what they're doing. That rare cart isn't in the lot by chance. They throw it in there because they know somebody will pay big bucks for the lot just to get the rare and then the disposal of the commons falls on someone else's shoulders.
-
Was there ever a Raggedy Ann and Andy game?
-
Doesn't anybody out there make circuit boards and case plastics for homebrew developers? Must original carts be sacrificed?

That's what I hate about crappy pics. If they're dark, have shadows on them, slightly out of focus or taken from more than a foot or two away it can make it impossible to really see the bezel clearly enough to determine whether it's a light or heavy.
-
I just joined the club, too. Didn't get as good a deal as the OP, but did manage to scoop up an R6 from my 2600 list as part of the deal.
-
yeah, that one looks to be more of a gamble. There's a lot that is unclear from the photo and the little information the seller put in the listing. That one I'd lowball, but with clearer pics and a better description, I'd go higher if I had to. Some people take really crappy pics so I pass on a lot of them. I might lose out on a hidden gem some of the time, but it's better than getting burned and ending up with a light six that the seller described as a heavy because he didn't know any better and took a lousy picture of it.

They have the Atari logo on them instead of the word "paddle".
