The best Colecovision auction ever?
mumbai replied to holygrailvideogames.com's topic in Auction Central
Shouldn't have been ... if you check the game listings and the pictures, the genericish "Software" box is for Turbo (which is strange, as Turbo wasn't sold apart from the Steering Wheel adapter, as far as I know. Odd about the Qubes ... but now that I look closely at the photo, it clearly looks a bit wonky (square casing instead of Parker Bros. casing). The instructions almost look photocopied from the photo, but from the distance and angle, it could be anything. -
Where to begin with how mistaken points 1 and 2 are... SELLING TIPS 1. Get a better camera, Adam.
-
Looking for just the 800, or the shebang (800 + hookups)?
-
Replace 'becoming' with 'have always been' for that statement to be accurate.
-
No, you're not wrong ... it's simply that despite that cross-capability, non-US titles that were available in the US never sell for amounts on par with their US counterparts. That's what makes the bidding on this particular auction odd (well, at least from my perspective).
-
The big tip-off is that the North American box doesn't have "SPIELKONSOLE" in big letters on the front of the box (visible in the auction pic). The title lettering on the US version is in green, not purple, the picture is square-framed and not in a rounded-corner frame, and there's (as with all other US SpectraVideo releases) a green banner at the base of the box front that says in large, white lettering "FOR THE COLECO VISION VIDEO GAME SYSTEM". What was offered on eBay is most certainly not the North American release. I can attach a picture of a US version here to prove it.

For ColecoVision buffs ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=8217370339 $17 more than the same seller's (unexercised) BIN from last week ... but didn't anyone notice that the game wasn't the North American release? One typically doesn't see a price jump like this for overseas ColecoVision titles, especially one in excess of the last few US versions of this title (boxed) on eBay. Odd.
-
It did have a BIN on it ... of course, now I forget what it was (a bit over $100, I think).

Not mine. No idea whether this falls into "fair" range or not - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=8216920709

The best Colecovision auction ever?

For $1400, you could pretty much gather in all those titles from a retailer, though ... I only counted a handful of titles (5 - 7) that are all that difficult to obtain. Maybe I'm missing something here. -

Hmmm... $1400 for the lot. I know there were some decent titles intermixed, but the closing amount strikes me as bordering on the foolish. -
Because he's offering a service to fix the CV so he doesn't have to sell it. Sure, barring the "No time for it" in the original post. Half of what you say is right... Cue the roll:

So then why bother to post a response?
-
I might have a spare of this. Let me check. If I don't PM you in a day or two, PM me a reminder.

Multicarts are the tools of the devil. (Sorry, just had to get that out of my system.)

Typically the most of any single-ender XonoX game for the platform. Word Feud usually runs neck-and-neck in terms of valuation, with Slurpy garnering the occasional upset. Oh, did you want a solid $ figure? -
Are these going to go to the great C64 paradise in the sky? I believe I have a number of such carts, you can PM me the details of what you're willing to offer in return and I'll see how many I have that aren't of use any longer.

I can supply all the games and hardware you're looking for. I'll send a PM.

The best Colecovision auction ever?

I hate to say it, but about four years ago I picked up a marginally better boxed lot (in terms of both quantity and quality) for ~$300 including shipping. The way things are on eBay with respect to ColecoVision these days, that amount can be considered laughable for such a collection. Oh, the times they have changed. This is roughly the third collection of boxed games on this order of magnitude in the past year or so on eBay. Although the other two didn't possess the degree of title quality as this one, they didn't go beyond $500 apiece from what I recall. How this one ends will depend on the swing titles in this collection, chiefly the XonoX titles (I would have said Tournament Tennis, but it's clearly a TeleGames release). -
I have. Oh, I have. And have. And have some more. You'll want a pair. Shipping one is just silly. PM me to discuss price. I'm reasonable. Throw me an offer.

Yeah, this past week at auction. http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...since=30&rdir=0 When originally distributed, weren't these all bundled into a folder for promotional purposes (that is, M.Dank split up a promo set)?
-
brian-scott-atkins frequently bids to excess ... I don't believe the word patience is in his vocabulary. Somehow, I'm not too shocked he took the auction to where it landed.
-
Geez. If anyone is looking to pick up some ColecoVision titles, drop me a line. I'd probably offer most of those titles out for at least half the above prices, quite a few for less than half (Smurf Paint'n'Play for $21? At best it's a $7 title, loose - Donkey Kong for $3? Not unless it's one of the two or three more obscure NTSC label variations; Super Action Baseball for $4? If only.), and I'm not short on title selection, either.

I don't want to rip on this guy too much...

Ah, but if he had a better camera, he'd have to be more honest about the condition of the games he sells ... I've had to return several items to Adam for failure to match the written description (and where the photos, crappy as they are, could be interpreted any number of ways). The rate of returns has only increased over time for me. Don't mean to knock him, but it's almost to the point where I avoid his listings because of the hassle involved. So I don't think he'll invest in a better camera anytime soon. As an aside, I've never tracked his buy/sell cycles fully, but for a few platforms for which Adam resells, his profit margin is rather slim to begin with.
