FS: ColecoVision / ADAM Cartridges, Overlays, Accessories, etc.
mumbai replied to mumbai's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
*pre-update bump* (Cartridges should be refreshed in the coming days and individual manuals possibly added by end of coming week.) -
Pretty much. Unless the end product was a cheap publication, the artwork provided would be reproduced by more sophisticated photomechanical methods of the era.

No, think clipart for advertisements and retail ad copy back in the '80s from manufacturers to publishers/retailers. That was the original purpose of these materials.

ColecoVision Collectors Database - Suggestions Wanted
mumbai replied to Ikrananka's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
[Most certainly] Not arguing in favor of Excel, but are the features in use at present within the database so exotic as to be incompatible with "free" spreadsheet programs that offer some compatibility with .xls(x) format (e.g., Numbers, Calc, ...)? That being said, a spreadsheet likely isn't the most flexible solution here if the personal collection check-offs are to be retained as a feature, if only for the reason you stated above. -
CoolCV emulator for Mac OS X, Linux, Windows and Raspberry
mumbai replied to nanochess's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Should be, for macOS users. This is a known issue mentioned upthread a while back (posts #338 to #340) where the libSDL packaged in the application bundle isn't (always? sometimes?) recognized as intended. EDIT: "OS X" -> "macOS" -

I'm interested. PM sent. -
Should sellers not provide tracking for a package, they do so at their own peril. eBay's policy on "item not received" claims is to rule against the seller when tracking was not or cannot be provided, should the buyer contest receipt. There's a choice, but the safest option to take is a no-brainer. Unfortunately, eBay doesn't fully agree with this position. One clear selling requirement is that items are to be delivered to buyers as described in the listing. When push comes to shove in the case of disagreement regarding fulfillment, it's in the best interests of sellers to take all reasonable precautions to record/track shipment and delivery and properly prepare packages against routine carrier (mis)handling. Do shipping mishaps beyond one's control occur? Sure. Yet eBay verifies whether a package was ever shipped in cases of lost or unsent package claims through the presence of tracking. However sellers choose to handle shipment of their own sales should factor in potential risk in light of eBay procedure. Not to mention, there's nothing more disturbing to a buyer who inquires about delivery status than a seller response of "I shipped it, but I have no idea where it is, and I can't give you a tracking number."

I can add it to the queue. There's a hand-annotated printout of that list somewhere in my files from a couple years back that includes such additions and clarifications ... perhaps I should go looking for that, too.
-
I'd have to go uncover those that I have, but off the top of my head, there's at least one more: Gateway to Apshai was also issued in this generic-looking manner.
-
There were more than four with this labeling.

On the one hand, does it matter which in terms of the broad activity of "counterfeiting"? On the other, it depends on who "these guys" are. An answer to the latter question is yes, it can go beyond "just ... cartridges". Whether this answer satisfies the seemingly restrictive sense of counterfeiting hinted at, it's not my place to say beyond my own judgment and interpretation, which one can freely ignore.

Please read what I wrote. I wasn't talking about the JuiceBox, per se. Look at the end of that sentence.
-
Look up the relatively recent kerfuffle over the JuiceBox on these forums, which extended to a number of independently-produced ColecoVision games. At present, there are perhaps two or three individuals on eBay that occasionally act in like manner, mostly confined to higher-value or more obscure titles. Others have dabbled in similar behavior over the years, as well.

[Heading into August] bump. -
I tried a few PDFs, personally. No issues. I also tried to download two DSK images. The first (XRAMPack) worked. The second (Wizard's Pinball Arcade) tried to return something from the server, but no download reached my desktop. Clearly, I was just clicking around at random, but there seems to be something off in at least isolated cases. Some help I am, right? Looking forward to the progression of the site.

It's just you. I'm not engaging this/you any further, here or elsewhere.

It is true that a proposed trade with atariluvr77 failed to materialize after an extended period of time. Guilty as charged. However, the ultimate reason for this was not some mere voicing of dissatisfaction, but rather a stream of derogatory private communication directed toward me that still hasn't ended, even after this hatchet job, despite repeated requests to simply stop and move on.

Heads up on fake coleco and other items on ebay.

Old hat for this seller... the amusing bit now is the listing for sale of the "catalog" of games he/she offers, for a fee. Wish I had as much chutzpah. -

Jumpman Junior Super Game Prototype Cartridge?
mumbai replied to ColecoGamer's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Yes, one can simply google it. "nim colecovision" generates a list where the top three results all mention your authorship in the title or summary. I don't see why it's beyond reason that a lazy reseller did just that without bothering to further verify the cartridge. Never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity, yadda yadda. -
It's for the Coleco Kid Vid module.

If you prefer maze-style gaming, I'd personally add Mouse Trap and LadyBug to the above starter list. ETA (sorry): Another stray thought... Defender is unplayable on an ADAM unless you acquire a patched ROM file of it.
-
Unless you're terribly impatient, or settle on single-cartridge purchases with silly shipping, nearly all these suggestions (which are pretty solid) as "just the cartridge" shouldn't run into that price range individually. I mean, they can, but afaik that isn't the expectation one should have going into this with the above list. ETA: If you resign yourself to those prices on the above common to middling scarcity games, though, the math pretty much dictates purchase of an AtariMax flash cartridge, unless you have an aesthetic aversion to that solution.
