  2. Just wanted to ping this post since I'll be leaving Shanghai for Tokyo tomorrow. No matter what though, I'm looking forward to exploring! Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  3. Here's a quick question (?) : anyone know the model # I should be looking for if I want a Japanese OLED Vita? I'm assuming anything that's a 1K series? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  4. Random question: if by some crazy chance I find an N64DD when I'm in Tokyo later this week, will it work with a North American N64? I'm assuming not unless it's modded, but wasn't sure if there was a software solution like an action replay? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  5. I played Downland on my Tandy CoCo3. Wow, seeing that cart brought back a lot of memories! Granted, trying to play it with the non-self centering joysticks was a continual lesson in frustration. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  6. Just finished Rise of the Tomb Raider a few days ago. I really enjoyed it (along with the first one of the Modern reboot trilogy). Enough so that, given the timing of my completion (a couple of days before Shadow was released) I was thinking of diving right into that. But I decided to take a break instead. Anyway, along with that I've finished Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Gears of War 4, Gears of War 3 Ultimate Edition, Unravel 2, and A Way Out. Playing through the campaign of Star Wars BF 2, and just queued up Final Fantasy 15 last night. That ought to take me through the rest of the year! Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  7. Anyone have any idea how much a used OLED Vita might go for in Japan these days? I know a bit of a random question. But I'm making a trip over there next month and after reading this thread I'm thinking of picking up a replacement for my ever so slightly scratched up OLED model, if they're cheap enough. Also, they're region free, right? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  8. I personally like achievements. It's a nice digital scrapbook for me to flip through every so often to see what I've done. But as others have said, if you're letting them control the experience you're having, then it's not worth it. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  9. How do you end up paying almost dou le the cost of the console over time? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  10. Huh, so it's not like the GBA either then.... Isn't that completely region free? To bad they changed that for the 3DS Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  11. Also, if anyone has any ideas for solid Japanese games to try for within some specific criteria, please lend me hand on this thread: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/215905-import-from-japanwhat-to-try-for/?fromsearch=1 Since my original post, I did open it up to some platforms we now have in the house that we didn't at the time. So now beyond N64 and GCN, I'd also consider Wii(U), 3DS and Vita, within the confines I talked about (i.e. language friendly, etc). Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  12. Well, it's finally official: I'm heading to Japan! It's really more of a relatively short stopover from a business trip to China. However, I do have some business in Tokyo, and coupled with the fact that we're arriving on the weekend mid-afternoon on Saturday), and it adds up to a solid 2 1/2 days. And Sunday all to myself!! So I'm hoping that the blog post from Chris Kohler and Spacecadet referenced (BTW.... thanks again!) is still pretty accurate. My hotel is only a 30 minute walk or 15 minutes by train to Akihabara, so I think that's definitely where I'm going to spend most of my time. That having been said, if anyone has any inside lines for solid game shopping in Tokyo beyond what's already been mentioned, please chime back in! I'm not looking for anything specific or even necessarily very retro, really. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks Tanooki! Yes, it was definitely Radirgy. Drill Land worked perfectly actually with a Freeloader, at least that was my experience. I really need to break that one back out, come to think of it. IIRC, Radirgy simply gave me a black screen and nothing else. It was years ago so that's what I recall at least, though I'm 100% sure it didn't work for me. Great ideas though.... I will definite be on the search for those then! Also, come to think of it, since my original post we now have a 3DS, WiiU and a Vita in the family. So opening it up to any suggestions on those platforms as well. Language Friendly is a big must though. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  14. Hello again everyone! Well, a bit of a surprise here for me since my original post above a number of years ago, but now I'M going to be in Tokyo! I am so extremely excited by the prospect. Now, it's a business trip, and the primary focus is time in China. So I'll only have 2 1/2-ish days in Tokyo. But I still plan on enjoying myself to the fullest during that time. And I'll have all day Sunday to myself, which I've heard is a big shopping day there, so hopefully no issues with finding stores to check out. Plus, my hotel is only a 30 minute walk or 15 minute train ride to Akihabara, so huge plus there. So anyway, I wanted to resurrect this thread. I've done a pretty good job especially over the last 3 years of keeping my physical gaming footprint to a minimum. That being said, I almost NEED to come back with at least a couple of fun games! So any suggestions on what to get? All of the same criteria from my original post at top still apply. I did get Drill Land and Radirgy. The latter unfortunately doesn't work, apparently a compatibility issue with US GCN's. But what else is out there that I should try within the confines above? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  15. Whatever it goes for, I have one and personally think it's a great little unit for what it is. 'coin slot' lights up and everything! Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
