1. If it makes you feel any better, I've been on the other side. I once sold what I thought was a broken Atari 800. I dunno what I was doing wrong (incompatible power supply, perhaps), but according to my buyer's feedback, he plugged it in and the thing revved right up. I didn't feel too bad about that one, though. It was sold along with a 1200XL that was definitely flaky, and the two of them together still went for more than what I'd paid for them.
2. It probably happened to be the OS he had a spare disc/license for. There's certainly no incentive to go out and spend $100 or more on a new Windows OS when the buyer is perfectly capable of doing that himself/herself. Besides, somebody like me would just wipe the drive and put linux on it anyways.
3. Definitely sounds like a controller or controller port problem. I suggest not worrying about the reset switch and trying a different controller, preferably one you know works on another 2600. If the second controller works like it's supposed to, then you have a flaky controller, and the 2600 is just fine. If the second controller does the same thing, then you'll want to focus on the controller port. I'm sure you can find diagrams of the controller port that will give you an idea of which pins involve the fire button, and that will help you get started on a fix. Hopefully some of the more technical-minded AtariAgers will have some suggestions to contribute as well.

5. Are you sure it's a problem with the reset switch, and not a problem with the left controller port or the controller plugged into that port? Do any other games show this "autofire" tendency? Are there any other quirks you've noticed?
6. One word: Furrydom. And that's all I'm gonna say about that. On an unrelated note, I can't help but notice her joey is nowhere to be seen in the new artwork. Yep, this is a typical modern-day marketing job. Hype up the sex appeal, but downplay the consequences.
7. Tough call, but in the end I voted for Hack 'Em. Jr. Pac-Man comes in a very close second. I give the margin to Hack 'Em because it's really four games in one.
8. Namco themselves did the PlayStation Namco Museum discs, and they are indeed much better than any of the compilations produced by Mass Media (fitting name, that). If you can find all five discs, you'll also get titles that have never made it onto any other release, including Xevious, Gaplus, Mappy, Super Pac-Man, and Pac-Land. Also, the games that originally used portrait (vertically installed) monitors can be flipped sideways, making them that much truer to the original arcade games. I haven't seen that feature on any other Namco compilation, nor any other arcade compilation for that matter (not counting MAME).

My Want List

Hey, classicgamingguy. Thanks for the offer, but I'm afraid I already have the 32X console. I need the A/V cables that go with it. Obviously those aren't the easiest things to find.
10. Found a copy of GEOS for the C-64/128, complete with the box and all documentation. Haven't tried it out yet, but I figured it was worth snagging at any rate.
11. But.. but.. it's three systems! Count 'em!! THREE!!! Must... bid... can't... resist... !! Oh wait, yes I can.
12. Query the brain of my head hurts that it does.

My Want List

MY WANT LIST Last updated 9/12/2007. Crossed out items are pending. For Atari systems, I would like anything from the big-name labels (Atari, Activision, Parker Brothers, Coleco, Sega, Mattel, etc.) that I don't already have. For other systems, I mostly go after arcade translations. The following lists give a general idea of what I have and what I'm looking for, but they are not definitive. If you have something you think I'd be interested in, just let me know. In all cases I'm looking for the U.S. releases, unless I mention otherwise. Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Atari Lynx, Atari Jaguar - I pretty much have all the easily-found games for these systems, but there are still a few big-company titles I'm looking for, as well as plenty of manuals and boxes. Discs without any original packaging will be shipped in generic jewel cases. All of these discs have scratches, and some of them are scratched pretty heavily. Polishing/buffing the nonworking discs may make them playable again. Those that can't be fixed are at least good for legitimizing a "back-up" disc. Daytona USA - includes cardboard sleeve, cut apart and used as jewel case artwork - plays fine Madden '98 - plays fine NBA Live '97 - doesn't load NiGHTS into Dreams - includes small jewel case packaging - plays fine Slam Jam '96 - sometimes doesn't load, but plays fine once it does load Sonic 3D Blast - plays fine Virtua Cop - includes cardboard sleeve, cut apart and used as jewel case artwork - game loads and plays fine, some audio tracks have trouble Virtua Cop - doesn't load (crack in outer edge of CD; my Saturn thinks it's an audio CD) Virtua Fighter - includes small jewel case packaging - loads, but crashes frequently Virtua Fighter 2 - includes cardboard sleeve, cut apart and used as jewel case artwork - plays fine Virtua Fighter 2 - plays fine Sony PlayStation Sony PSone Owner's Manual - The cover is missing. Final Fantasy VIII - manual only All games are NTSC, released in North America. All games have been tested (except as noted), and all of them play (except as noted). Some, particularly the ones with damaged cases, are more finicky than others. If a game has well-known variations of the box, manual, or cartridge label, and I did not list which variation I have, you can assume I have the most common variation. I wouldn't say any of this is in "mint" condition, but (except where noted) everything is at least in good, collectible condition. I can provide further details, including pictures, about any pariticular game upon request. I also have some consoles available. Consoles Coleco Telstar Ranger - Pre-2600 dedicated console with six built-in games, including two light-gun games. Everything originally in the box is included here, except for one styrofoam insert. The system works and the paddles are virtually jitter free. I could not get the gun games to work on my LCD monitor, however, they may still work otherwise (the system registers the trigger pull, at least). A power supply is not included, however, the system can run on 6 C batteries, or an Atari 2600 power supply. Picture here. Sega Genesis "Model 1" - Includes power supply and two 3-button gamepads. Does not include A/V cable or TV antenna switchbox. Picture here. All hardware has been cleaned, tested, and found to be working (except as noted). I'm hoping for trades; see this topic for my want list. I'll consider offers to buy as well.
15. More accurately, Joust "P" is supposed to be PAL. There were several NTSC cartridges that escaped the factory with the "P" sticker, for one reason or another. The games are otherwise identical to their correctly-labeled counterparts.
16. Best Buy has them. I imagine the other big chains do as well. Adult entertainment stores might give these a shot. It would certainly be a novel excuse to put up a big PSP poster in the window.
17. I'd have to say Ridge Racer. That music gets my blood pumping every time I hear it, especially "Rare Hero." Other good music comes from the mid- and late-'80s games from Atari and Sega, particularly Paperboy, Marble Madness, Space Harrier and OutRun. The Commodore 64 was also a good source of game music, with Rambo: First Blood Part II, Turbo OutRun, Thunder Blade (the U.S. release, anyway), Sky Shark, and tons of others worth mentioning.
18. I guess you're not counting franchises that E.A. acquired from other companies, otherwise I would be voting for either Burnout or SimCity.
19. Who the hell's got a problem with Marky Mark. 867448 Don't confuse Mark Wahlberg with Marky Mark. One is a decent actor with a string of watchable movies to his credit. The other is a Calvin Klein pretty boy who should've stayed out of the music business.
20. I finally picked up an LCD monitor that supports component video earlier this year, and I currently have a DVD player connected to it. I can certainly tell that the component connection has better color separation than even the S-video connection; I can finally see that the player's default blue background actually uses multiple shades of blue! Having said that, I don't see component video as a must-have, at least not for the sake of clearing up the picture. For higher resolution and progressive video, however, it does come in handy.
21. Hey, that's what CuttleCarts are for! Seriously, I can see why you'd want to keep it "burnable," and we have a decent Ms. Pac-Man already. I haven't said anything before now, so let me add to the accolades you've already received. This is very nice work!
22. The additional game modes and the intermissions don't use any dedicated ram. All the ram is already utilized while the game is in non-intermission play, and the intermissions just reuse the temp pointer ram (that's used to display sprites and digits normally). So removing the additional game modes and intermissions would still leave the same problem. Additional romspace won't help. 864272 Would using one of the formats that allows for extra RAM (Supercharger, RAM-Plus, etc.) help, or would that require too much rewriting?
23. sorry Andy, the emu makes an .avi, and the freebie PC software I'm using (VirtualDub) doesn't seem capable of converting it into a .mov - I'll have to look into it some more 863994 In my experience, AVIs are more easily moved across platforms than MOVs, although to be fair, Apple's Quicktime for Windows is a lot less annoying than it used to be. AVI is the most popular choice for the freebie creation programs, though. I don't know that I've seen any free Quicktime MOV creators, although mplayer/mencoder may be capable. Alternatively, VirtualDubMod can create MPEG-2 files compatible with any software DVD player, including mplayer and a few other freebies. Personally, I'd say stick with AVI and use codecs that everybody will either likely have or can easily get. DivX is widely popular, but there are certainly worse options than XviD.
24. The AtariSoft FAQ has it as "ultra rare." 863760 I need to tell Dieter to fix that, it is definetly unreleased. This came from the programmer himself. 863761 Ah. That would be a pretty reliable source, yup.
