  1. Here are some pictures of the Monoprice device installed inside my 1200xl with a scale for reference. This device resolved all of my issues with monitor compatibility and it works great, but I remember reading some reviews of the device where they had problems with audio not working after a while. So far it's holding up well.
  2. I bought a cover for my 1200xl from Julie and also recommend - really nice looking and looks like it will hold up well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. That's the one I have as well. With that alternate U1MB default plugin you can enable/disable it through the setup menu.
  4. The Sophia (DVI version at least) has V-Gate ability built in. If you have a U1MB, try this replacement for the default plugin and you can toggle it on and off. There are versions for the 1.25 and the 2.0 U1MB firmware in the post. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/278040-u1mb-plugin-development/?do=findComment&comment=4078393
  5. I think I did this right -it works in Altirra... I used the Rom2Exe from here. Edit: It works when I launch it from Side2 in Altirra with U1MB. When I try to boot the image directly, it crashes the emulator - unless I'm doing that wrong. Haven't ever tried to run a XEX directly within Altirra. Miner 2049er AS08.xex
  6. I don't think having the shielding matters much any more, but I was able to get the shield back in (with some Dremel work) on my 800xl. I didn't put it back at all in the 1200xl.
  7. I just used an old IDE drive cable and split off 10 conductors. Not sure if you have a way to crimp the connectors (I used a bench vise with some wood spacers to keep from destroying the connector), but if that's a concern I'd get the cable assembly for sure assuming it's long enough.
  8. Attached image is what I ordered from DigiKey... If just making a new cable, you won't need the 2nd one.
  9. Bringing closure to this... stephena got me on the right track (thanks!) and I got this to work by adding mappings in Stella for select and reset to the modifier keys option and command. The reason for those particular keys is that the up and down methods only work with modifier keys (you can use control too) in AppleScript. tell application "System Events" to tell process "Stella" key down {option} key up {option} end tell
  10. I had one where at least 3/4 of the keys didn't work at all, but I found after tapping on each of them repeatedly (maybe 50-75 times), they started to work intermittently and then eventually worked all the time. So it could just be that same type of issue, but the keyboard connector will also fail at some point...
  11. I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but just to add a little more info... In the gui the TouchBar button I have configured for Frying sends the backspace code correctly (if I type in the search bar, "Fry" backspaces over the text) - but once the emulator starts, the same softkey isn't processed. Not sure why this is bugging me so much - I just want to TouchBar on the Mac to be useful for something!
  12. I'm getting them from here: https://eastmanreference.com/complete-list-of-applescript-key-codes They work for everything I've tested with the exception of start, select, and fry. I'm not sure why these codes are different from the normal scan codes...
  13. I believe that sending the key code does that by default, but just to test I tried: tell application "Stella" to activate tell application "System Events" to key down (key code 122) delay 0.25 tell application "System Events" to key up (key code 122) And still no luck - just seems to be the select and reset though...
  14. I know this may be a long shot, but I figured it was worth an ask if there were any other Mac users around... I am running Stella 5.1.3 on a Mac with a touch bar (High Sierra) and was trying to use BetterTouchTool to give me context appropriate buttons on the touch bar while Stella was running. This seems to work with the exception of start and select. Since I wasn't sure if it was the BetterTouchTool product that was having the problem, I took that out of the equation and wrote an AppleScript to send the key codes to Stella and got the same result. Is there something specific to the way the start and select keys are processed as opposed to the ones like color/bw or difficulty? I tried remapping select and start to keys other than F1 and F2 and still got nowhere. Just seems kind of strange. I also ran into nearly the same thing with Altirra in Wine - Start, Select and Option don't work there either (and I apologize for the crosspost in the A8 Altirra forum)... Anyway, the example to send F1 (mapped to Select) is below if someone else with a Mac wants to give it a go. tell application "Stella" to activate tell application "System Events" to key code 122
  15. I know I started this off with Altirra, but to rule out Wine, I migrated over to testing with the Mac port of Stella. Tried this AppleScript to send F1 (Select) and it does not work: tell application "Stella" to activate tell application "System Events" to key code 122 Tried this AppleScript to send F3 (Select) and it does work: tell application "Stella" to activate tell application "System Events" to key code 99 Both Stella and Altirra seem to have problems processing the keystrokes for Start and Select (and Option), but the other keys seem to work. No big deal - just trying to do something useful with the Touch Bar and not having any luck. Sorry to drag this off topic.
  16. Running High Sierra - Wine and Altirra 3.0. Using BetterTouchTool which is a 3rd party OSX app that lets you create touch bar customizations for apps that don't support it natively. The Reset and Help keys will work in Altirra - the others seem to work maybe one out of 20 times. I think it may be a bug or just the way BTT works, but it seems like the sent keystroke is too fast for Altirra to see it. Changing the key from "Select" to say "q" works fine, so it's some weird interaction that's going on... Just thought I'd ask in case someone had tried to do this before.
  17. I know this is a long shot , but I just got a MB Pro with the touch bar and I'm trying to get BetterTouchTool to work with Altirra in Wine for Start/Select/etc. So far I can only get the reset and help to work. The others are setup exactly the same way, but are not responsive in Altirra. Anybody else tried to get this to work?
  18. Attached is an updated default plugin with the VGate toggle option for U1MB version 2.0 firmware along with a Sophia. Flashed into the plugin location on a 1200XL and appears to work fine. defaultplugin-withVGate.s vgate.rom
  19. Jon - thanks for the hard work you put in on this. When you get a chance, would you post the default plugin source code like you had in the prior release (unless it's in one of the zips and I missed it)?
  20. Same here!!! I'm working on getting this built and would love to have something to put it in. Would be happy to pay materials and shipping if you have the time.
  21. I've run into this before too, and found that if you put a cartridge in the slot before you tighten the screws holding the board to the aluminum housing you can shift things around enough to make it work - no sanding required!
  22. No problems here with audio on the monoprice, but I did see several reviews on Amazon for the device that were about the audio not working. Mine is working for the moment, but time will tell.
  23. I managed to get the Monoprice a/v combiner stripped down and found a spot for it where the RF modulator was. So far it works great - just hope it's reliable! I really went back and forth on the cutout for the HDMI connector, but eventually decided to go for it. Still got some cleanup to do, so no pic of that area yet... I also decided to add an additional voltage regulator to supply the combiner because it draws about 600mA when it's sync'd up. On the 1200XL there's a spot on the right side of the aluminum heat sink that looks like it was a potential location for another regulator that didn't make it into the design, so I used it.
  24. Here are two videos showing what I was describing - haven't really tested any further than this though. I don't know if this is just my monitor being finicky, but it seems to be consistent. Also, just as additional info, running the DVI out from the Sophia into the Monoprice (https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=8124#) converter seems to clear up both of these problems. The first is in the Side loader menu and it will stay up until I hit the 4th tab. IMG_3104-1.mov This one shows me launching BBSB and how it will sync on the title screen for a second and then drop out until I hit the joystick button to start the game. IMG_3105-1.mov
