I asked Simius for the 1536x960 core and was able to get the Sophia upgraded so the Monoprice unit works now (and it works really well), but when going Sophia DVI straight into my monitor, I have the same type of issues as I did with the 16x9 core. With both 1600x900 and 1536x960, the monitor occasionally loses sync in the U1MB setup screen (and most frequently on the 4th tab over - SIO settings). The screen just goes black, but I can still hear the input noises as I navigate the menu. Also, Bounty Bob Strikes Back will not show the title screen when connected to the monitor through DVI (sync issue). Pressing the joystick fire button will start the game, the screen reappears (and the monitor shows the DVI input is now connected), and I can play the game. Running the DVI output through the Monoprice box and then HDMI to the monitor corrects both of those problems. Just curious if anyone else is having the same issues and if you had found any workarounds.

Yeah - that's what I meant. The only posts I've seen about it are towmater 's at 1536x960 (that worked) and mine at 1600x900 (that didn't).

Only two data points so far, but I couldn’t get a sync on the input with the 1600x900 Sophia. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I received mine today and had no luck at all. I could get it to work on my PC, but it didn't like the Sophia output at all. Mine is 16x9 and it outputs at 1600x900 according to the monitor - is yours maybe running a different core? Unrelated to the Monoprice box, I also have issues sometimes going into the U1MB setup - screen displays for a minute and then goes black with the monitor thinking I don't have an input connected. I wonder if there is a better / more compatible core for the Sophia that my monitor and the Monoprice box would behave better with.

Nice! Here's a pic of the add on DVI board connector with signals (I think ). It looks like the 5V connection from the Sophia feeds 5V and HotPlugDetect on the DVI each through a 4.7 ohm resistor, but I haven't tested any of that yet. I was just going to make a board with an HDMI connector on it instead of the DVI due to the size of the connector, but now I'm going to try to get the Monoprice device in the mix.
-
I was thinking about a new little board or removing the DVI port and wiring a cable up directly to the Monoprice adapter - I ordered a few of the connectors to match the Sophia side of the DVI connection and it's only 10 wires to solder. Seems like a fun way to waste some time...

That’s great news - are you going to try to install it permanently inside? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'll submit my plugin change here as well if anyone with a Sophia wants to try it. As TheMontezuma mentioned in his initial post, this is geared toward the current release (1.25) and will need to be modified for the upcoming code release from FJC. I've reconfigured the placeholder for Device3Toggle to toggle V-Gate support on and off within the Sophia video upgrade. There is no way to detect the Sophia device or whether or not you are using a Sophia core that has V-Gate support, so this is simply writing the enable or disable values to the correct register. I have tested this in Altirra which doesn't really do anything since there's no Sophia (but I did learn how to use the debugger), as well as real hardware (1200XL with Sophia Rev.C) and it worked as expected. I've included the source and the assembled plugin which can be flashed with uflash.xex into the plugin area. ;Disable v-gate lda #$08 sta $D01D lda #$00 sta $D01D ;enable v-gate lda #$08 sta $D01D lda #$20 sta $D01D defaultv.zip

I snagged one as well - reviews of it on Amazon weren't that positive though. Nothing about latency, more about hardware failure.
-
Things suddenly started to click and I was successful in modifying the default plugin (Device 2) to enable/disable v-gate on the Sophia and I didn't break anything else! Thanks to FJC, Simius and Mytek for the info and work on this stuff. Brings me back to my youth!
-
No worries - I tend to get stuck on to something and can't let it go until I figure it out. I'm still very green with the coding - just happy to get it to assemble properly. It's going to be a while before I'm able to do anything remotely useful . Thanks for all your help and work on all this!
-
I know this isn't the right thread for this, but just to close it out, I was able to get the defaultplugin.s to compile with the following options added to the source: // at the beginning icl "plugin.inc" // includes the include file opt f+ h- // emit file as a single block -- omit DOS executable file headers //at the end .align $300,$ff // fills the remainder of the 1k space with $FF Probably not the right way, but it works...
-
Well, I got far enough to actually get the example defaultplugin.s code to assemble once I figured out how to do an ICL, but I'm sure I don't have something set up correctly. The file the assembler is creating is an XEX, and has some extra bytes up front and it looks like the string padding (and EOF padding) is not quite the same as the default.plg. Thanks for the info about the changes in the new code - I'm not planning to actually flash anything just yet (baby steps ). Any other hits as to where I've gone wrong? My assembled version of the source... Thanks for the info - I'll see how far I can get.

Jon - I decided I'd have a go at modifying your default plugin to enable/disable v-gate, and started with just trying to figure out how to get your original source assembled (compiled?). I'm still very new at this, but do you have any pointers for me on getting the environment set up? Do you do your coding and cross assemble on your PC or use AMAC in Altirra? Thanks, John
-
If that's something you can add via a plugin fairly easily, then I think it would be nice to have it as an option, but I totally agree with you about the detection of the hardware. I was just reading through your docs on the plugin structure, and while I would love to figure this out myself, it would take me forever to wrap my head around it. Sorry - I'm editing this one to death...

I just got the Sophia installed in my 1200XL and was reading through the thread about the v-gate functionality. Should I have an option to enabe/disable v-gate in the U1MB on this platform, or is that only in the 1088XEL? I though I had read somewhere a discussion that U1MB could now detect the Sophia, but I can't track that thread down now. Thanks!

It should be ok in Altirra - I loaded it up there before flashing to my 1200xl. Worked great on both. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Installed OK and seems to work well - did you have a list of fixes besides the ATR swap and the ctrl/shift/esc/reset (that works great by the way) that you wanted to focus on? -

Got it - I was just misunderstanding what the cold reset was supposed to do. I think I was expecting it to act like what's called a "cold reset" from the menu in Altirra. Help/Reset/L will work just fine. Thanks for the info (and the firmware support!). -

Ok - it looks like that's what I'm seeing too. So how are people getting back to the loader screen without hitting the power switch? Reset/Help then L? Thanks for checking! -

Thank FJC - I didn't mention this, but there is also a SIDE2 in the mix as well if that makes a difference. Both are flashed with the latest firmware from your site.
