I popped in Starfighter this weekend. I need to learn the controls and objectives on the game. I went around blowing up buildings and then collecting rainbow colored shapes. Often when trying to make turns I would just barrel roll over haha!

Is the 3DO Flightstick Pro a good buy?...
UHATEIT replied to ataridave's topic in 3DO Interactive Multiplayer
What games is the stick actually good for by chance. Mainly flying nightmares, wing commander, Starfighter? -
Dang so no one has hacked Doom to ad music on the Jaguar version!
-
Sweet! This is all news to me! I didn't know there were that many extra levels either. I just hated the damn border like the one in Doom. If someone hacked Doom to ad music for the Jaguar it would be the shit! Someone's probably done it too.

I got the email for this thread and even before I clicked it to get here and before the video popped up, it said "no comment everyone knows what happened here" I knew it would be Doom haha. I just hate the stupid border on Doom! Take off the border and it might be pretty good. I also don't like the exterior border on Wolfenstein. I don;t know where people say the 3DO version of Wolfenstein is better than the Jaguar version. I need an explanation of that one!

I haven't played the PSX version of Starblade but am glad to know there is one! I played it on the Sega CD and it wasn't all that nice to look at (but nothing on the Sega CD really is). There are 2 versions to choose from on the 3DO game, the nontextured (Sega CD equivalent) and then the textured, which looks much better! The nontextured version on the 3DO still gives you that retro space shooter vibe! I watch all of 3DOKid's videos and comment on them (my screen name on youtube is Kyle D) so you'll see me in the comments there, I really enjoy all his posts about the 3DO. This does make me want to get the PSX version as it looks a little clearer, crisp, and the details on the enemies are awesome! As for NFS, there are a lot of people that like the game, I personally don't like it much, but that's coming from playing much newer and better looking racing games, but I imagine at the time in 1993 that was probably amazing to look at. I dislike how SLOW the NFS game is on the 3DO but love how fast it is on the Sega Saturn (haven't played the PSX one). But the 3DO had all the awesome trash talking cut scenes that made the game so awesome, same with Road Rash, and they were taken out when the game came to the Saturn!

Need help with choosing the top five 3DO games!
UHATEIT replied to Atari2600Lives's topic in 3DO Interactive Multiplayer
I had 6 games that I was able to sell from my 3DO lot on ebay, took a couple of months for the last one to sell but they all sold. The games themselves aren't worth as much as I think people are asking since with this console you can burn everything for $0.10/disc and then see if the game is even worth the CDR it's copied onto as some of the games are not that good. I did however recently pickup legit CIB versions of the ones I really liked (Demolition Man, Corpse Killer, Starblade) because I did want some for the shelf and really like those games. The system's on the other hand are super hot in price right now and the prices which suck are actually worth it if you can get the system and not necessarily have to pay for the games in order to play the system. -
Need help with choosing the top five 3DO games!
UHATEIT replied to Atari2600Lives's topic in 3DO Interactive Multiplayer
Battlesport is a good choice for sure! Except that I found out it is also on the PS1 But still kickass for the 3DO! I also love Wolfenstein 3D but on the Atari jaguar the most! I don't think I can even make my own top 5 list, I like way too many of the games, and it would be hard for me to place a specific 1-5 in that order but I will list 5 of my favorites: 1. Corpse Killer (Everyone hates it but I liked the cheesiness) 2. Demolition Man (because i loved the movie as a kid and I really had fun with this one) 3. Starblade (It's just fucking awesome to me) 4. Total Eclipse (because I also loved Solar Eclipse) 5. Burning Solder (this game is badass!) ALSO did you catch that the OP posted he got a 3DO in box with 2 controllers for $49! That would be nice! It's too bad 3DO's prices have jumped like hell as of lately when people are realizing how cool of a system it is! I wish I had bought a lot of thigns back in 2003 when stuff was stupid cheap. -
The best pick-up-and-play 3DO games
UHATEIT replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in 3DO Interactive Multiplayer
No matter what I did I still seemed to miss a bunch of the turns, really pissed me off. I seem to have terrible luck with any sort of timing games. I would love to beat through a good collection of games but my timing seems to be terrible on some of these. Would like to finish Sewer Shark, Dragon's Lair, Braindead 13, and Space Ace. -
NBA Jam VS White Men Can't Jump Battle - Podcast
UHATEIT replied to Adriano Arcade's topic in Atari Jaguar
I'll agree on that for sure, it seems harder to get the crazy dunks/slams going on the Jaguar vs the other versions. Also sucks that the Jaguar version costs $40-80 depending on if loose or with a box vs. the SNES or Genesis being like $10 for the game in a case! -
NBA Jam VS White Men Can't Jump Battle - Podcast
UHATEIT replied to Adriano Arcade's topic in Atari Jaguar
I loved the jag version of NBA Jam and played it to beat all teams and really enjoyed it. Bright colors and big heads, awesome game! -
That is the same problem I was having on my FZ-1 when it was having issues, laser reading issues and would spit out the disc, could have been the capacitors as well. I ended up buying a spare FZ-1 that works perfectly and never got around to fixing mine as it would have cost as much as the new unit I bought anyways. I hope you can get yours fixed!

trying to repair an Atari Jaguar pro controller
UHATEIT replied to ziggaboogi's topic in Atari Jaguar
For $20 it was worth the shot and pickup! I wish my local store didn't know what the pro controller was and had there for a regular controller price. Someone traded in 2 of them, they have a loose one for $200 and a boxed one for $230. Still too much for my liking. I really hope you get it working and if so then $20 would be well spent! -
This is likely a long shot as even Saturn did not have these, but does anyone have the dumps for any of these and a link to where to snag them? Demolition Man Varuna's Forces Caves of Fear Brett Hull Hockey (CD)

trying to repair an Atari Jaguar pro controller
UHATEIT replied to ziggaboogi's topic in Atari Jaguar
Wow that sounds like a lot of work you've done and still not working right I hope you got it for a killer price on that! My local game store has 2 pro controllers (but for insane prices) and they offer a 90-day warranty on them and will fix the issue if there is one. If you got yours for a great deal likely it wasn't at a store with a warranty, so I hope you can fix your problem dude! -
What Atari Jaguar games should have come out on other consoles
UHATEIT replied to AtariORdead's topic in Atari Jaguar
I don't know anything about coding for games but supposedly it was a lot easier on the 3DO. A bunch of random ass 3rd party companies released some really ridiculous games on that console. Hell Vivid Interactive released a bunch of porno games for it, which weren't even games really, just showcasing the fact you could put video on a disc I guess. I love the 3DO and wish it had a better library of "good" games that's for sure! Return Fire for the 3DO is pretty awesome actually! The game goes on for days on end, I don;t know if you can actually ever beat the game, it just keeps adding more levels to it. it gets crazy hard as you get further into it. I think I am at the 10-12th level or so and it's hard to survive once you get that far! -
That's a gorgeous logo. Mine has dithering checkerboard in the red.

There was a loose Jaguar system with 2 controllers posted on the Facebook Marketplace here where I live. I am in Denver, Colorado but this was listed in the Pueblo, CO section (which is about 2 hours south of me). I didn't need a second Jag so I didn't feel like going all the way down there to try and grab it (as I actually drove to Pueblo before for a game deal and got stood up and didn't want to risk that happening again). Turns out the jaguar was still sitting there listed for $100 for almost 6 months. One of the local gamers on my Retro Game page here in Denver actually was down there for business last week and hit the dude up and scored the loose Jag with all hookups and the 2 controllers for $30!!! I thought damn I should have just bit the bullet and drove down there! That being said, you CAN find Jaguars in the wild out there, likely not for $30 with 2 controllers which is a hell of a find. Would have been worth the $100 and the 2 hour drive but when I heard the other guy got it for $30 it definitely would have been worth the price then!

Id love to have a dedicated svideo only connection for the Jaguar! The 3DO has direct connects on the back so I just have red/white audio and a good quality svideo going straight to the switcher. It still has shitty 3DO dotted graphics which I see on many colors, but no checkerboard!
-
I see what you are talking about and mine looks the same, hard to take pics of it but I see what you mean on your checkerboard. If it is on a combo cable that still has the yellow video connector it seems that this is a common thing, probably as it is split apart. The Jaguar shows me the most noticeable of the checkerboard and could be the way the system produces its svideo signal like you said. When you brought up Dreamcast, I have a cheapo svideo combo cable and I get a good amount of checkerboard but it is a little more faint. It really is too bad, since svideo looks superior to composite but then you have to deal with the checkerboard. I have dealt with that and liked the fact there is a lot less bleed I the red and green colors.
-
Are you noticing any checkerboarding with your svideo? Direct to the tv or through a switch? Mine looks much better direct to the tv vs the switch as I think it's not properly grounding out on the svideo switch box I have. I'm wondering if taking it apart I can do something to ground it better
-
Here is the look of the checkerboard on svideo on the Jag, this seems next to impossible to capture this on a cell phone camera so I had to zoom in with my capture option after adding them to my computer and try to show you what I mean. It is definitely more noticeable in person, especially on the light blue on the cover screen of Alice's Mom's Rescue, and then anything with yellow or bright green really seems to show the checkerboard.
-
It's the N501. I don't know if Ive ever seen an N505 before (in person at least). I got this from a local guy with Freefall 3050AD and a controller. I wish there were more controllers out there as this is the non rotary one I have (wingman shaped)
-
I do use a switcher, a 4 in 1 out svideo one (RCA VH911R) which was cheap around $13 or so on Amazon, but it isn't powered and I think it probably doesn't ground well since all the items plugged into it with Svideo have the checkerboard. Really sucks that this only happens to svideo which is what I upgraded all my stuff to as it is sharper with less bleed than composite, if you can deal with the checkerboard. I have attached pics of my connected setup and what it looks like Everything is going in with svideo only and then output to svideo only, but they all have that checkerboard, some worse than others. The Jaguar was the WORST looking of them all which was odd since it was a dedicated svideo connection, wheras the 3DO which is dedicated svideo connection only actually looked perfect with no checkerboard! Those svideo/yellow combo cheapo cables however all have checkerboard through this switch. Probably could use a better ground, but the shape and size of this unit and the design is perfect otherwise! Fits right into the space I have and I dont have to see the wires coming out the front of the box which is common on other switches (all input and output are on the back so it looks cleaner) as some have 1 input on the front which looks odd to me.Maybe there is a way to pry this open and do something to ground it better? Or to disable the yellow portion of the connectors?

I noticed the ones from Best they have are a combo cable at $44. I didnt want to spend that much. I bought the dedicated svideo one from ebay that people have posted $26 for, which just has the svideo and the red/white audio. I plugged that into my TV directly and it looks pretty damn good with minimal checkerboard. I just did a long playthrough of Battlemorph on CD and it looked great, wheras when it was plugged into my svideo switcher (4 in 1 out) it would look terrible with all the checkerboard. Made it look better. That leads me to believe it is the switch being cheapo and the cable being better. But when I Used my combo cable I got the dithering/checkerboard regardless of if I used the switch or direct yo the TV and it was bad enough I don't want to use the combo anymore.
