That's the image I posted on Facebook of the CRT (Sony Trinitron flat CRT). I added a video as well but I am not seeing it on the post for some reason. I didn't have any glitches with this. Using a Skunkboard and a Jaguar console vs. an emulator. Sounds perfect!

  2. I'll test this in just a few minutes for you man. I can shoot a video on my CRT but not sure how to ad a video to this page at all. I can try and ad it to the facebook post I think. if you send a note in here of how to ad a video I can try to ad it, otherwise I'll try to ad it to your facebook post.

  3. Alright I was able to get the problem solved!

I had to buy a 100 pack of the Taiyo Yuden CDR. I got a stack off Amazon with 2 day shipping for $27 and they arrived super fast. I tested and burned about 15 and all work! They key is to check what it says in IMGBurn if that's the program you use. When the disc is inserted it says "accepted write speeds" and mine said 10x, 16x, and 24x. When I tried to burn them at 1x, 2x, and 4x thinking that was the cause of the 3DO not reading them properly. They did all burn and load (whereas the other discs would not) but they skipped and were slow and choppy during the FMV scenes. So once I figured out I needed to burn them at the accepted speed I did them at 10x and they work flawlessly now.

Also the ones I got said CMC on the outside of the packaging and Made in Taiwan. They weren't the JVC ones as those were harder to find and more expensive. But either way, they work perfectly if burned at the acceptable speed!

  4. They arrived and did not work. The Imation I ordered has a different packaging and different design on the CD itself. The 3DO will not read them like it will the old Imation I have.

I would live to avoid having to buy a full stack of 100 of the Tayio Yuden as you have to buy them at a minimum of 100. If be doing so just to see if they even work. Does anyone have a few I can buy and test them out?

  5. Thanks for the info dude! I have been using the same burner as with the other games. I had a stack of 8 year old Imation discs that worked perfectly but when I ran out switched to Verbatim which work in the Saturn but not the 3do. I have a stack of Imation discs arriving today in the mail so I will pray they work and if not then hopefully I'm not developing laser issues or have to buy those other discs. I'll continue to burn at 8x and try these and maybe even try 2x or 4x and see what happens then report back later!

  6. I strongly recommend buying Taiyo Yuden discs instead. You'll have to mail-order them but, in my experience (and I hope things haven't changed since the buyout), it's worth it.

I personally won't use anything else, as the difference in read quality/reliability is striking, i.e. an old CD player I had that wouldn't reliably read any other brand of CDRs.

After messing around with it more last night I think the console might be developing a laser issue. As it was then struggling to play other games burned on the Imation discs. Including discs that had never had issues before at all.

But it for sure absolutely refuses to play any of the Verbatim discs at all. Yet my Saturn has no problem with the Verbatim discs by any means. I wonder if when my Imation discs arrive I need to slow it down from 8x down to 2x and try that to be safe.

  7. I finally had an issue with this today. All my burned games were on Imation CD-R that I had a stack left from around 2010 or so and hadn't used. All work perfectly.

But I ran out and bought some new Verbatim CD-R and burned 13 discs and all will not work. They will not even start or load from the opening screen and the 3do ejects them. I went to the store and bought a stack of Memorex CD-R and the same thing, will not read and ejects the disc.

Sucks because I can't find Imation in the stores so I am ordering a stack off Amazon that I hope will work since that's what worked for me before.

  8. When I realized Jaguar emulation was weak, I just splurged and bought a bunch of games for my Jag. As for the Saturn the emulation is also weak. But you can mod an Action Replay and burn any game for the Saturn so it's not that hard or expensive to go that route.

  9. I enjoy space shooters. But I couldn't get into this one. Maybe it was the warping to different areas I couldn't get into. One space shooters I love is Solar Eclipse on the Sega Saturn.

  10. I have it hooked up to a 36 inch Sony Trinitron XBR that's fairly high end foe being a CRT. The 3DO is hooked up using the normal composite cables and looks grainy but again that could just be 3do quality. I think an svideo cable alone is like $5. I may just try it but had wondered if it made much difference.

I have been trying to upgrade what I can for my Jaguar, Saturn, 3do, and Dreamcast. Depending who you ask some will say svideo makes a huge difference and others say it makes no difference. Some recommend it for the older systems but not newer than the Saturn (as in the Dreamcast would make no difference as it's newer). I get lost on which ones really make a difference.

  11. Plumbers don't wear ties.

I'm not kidding, it's comical and stands out :-D

I was going to say this one! It's terrible tho. I kept making "bad decisions" and it told me to reset the game :(

For me I really like Corpse Killer, which there was a port of on the Saturn but with 2 discs and a different name I think.

I also really like Battlesport for it's quick playability.

  12. What did you end up deciding to go with on this for best picture? I'm in the USA and there is no RGB. But my FZ-1 has the svideo port in the back. All I would need is a male to make svideo plug. Does it actually look better than the composite on the 3DO? I've been googling forever and can't seem to find any comparisons for the 3DO on svideo vs composite.

  13. The JP version of Jack Bros is much more reasonable than the US version, I'd track that down if you want a physical copy. I gave up on a complete VB set, though I will eventually get the US Galactic Pinball, Red Alarm and Vertical Force. Maybe Water World if a deal comes along on a forum. But there's no way I'm paying hundreds for the rare games just to say I have them. Same reason I gave up on a 32X full set. Just not worth it having things to have them.

I love Galactic Pinball! That's my favorite on the system. I've put way too many hours into that. Good replay value! I actually played the US Vertical Force yesterday and beat it on my first playthrough since I was a kid. Takes under 30 minutes it's surprisingly short. The 4th world took me a while. Red Alarm is probably my #3 game on the system, behind Mario Clash which is pretty fun too! I'm excited to try some homebrew on this flashboy+

  14. Heck yeah Waterworld is pretty lame. It's in many lists of worst games ever made. The game is just fricken terrible! Luckily I have my copy from when I was a kid. I got my VB initially new for Christmas and a bunch of games at $5 each at Walmart. Tho I never had Jack Bros and 3D Tetris which are still the only two commercial US ones I don't have. Space Invaders I was thinking was a Japanese release, the only Jap one I have is Vertical Force. My Flashboy arrived today in custom baby shit clear brown haha. Has a game on it called VB racing that's pretty cool except there's no sound in the game. I've always loved the Virtual Boy despite the shit it takes. I like the obscure shit!

Wait...they made Faceball 2000 for the Virtua Boy? Can it be networked?

Man...and to think we still don't have ports of the real thing - MIDI Maze! - to the Lynx or the Jaguar yet.

As for Waterworld for the Virtua Boy, I didn't think it was officially released commercially. I'd love to play it just because Steve Woita made it. If there was a commercial release, I'd love to get one to get an autograph. He told me on Facebook that he believes he's the only person that owns his own version of Police Academy for the NES that he made for [Atari Games] Tengen.

yep Waterworld was commercially released I have cartridge of it:

  16. Have you ever tried the unreleased game 'Bound High'..? That is a great game, and makes excellent use of the VB's 3D effect.

Not yet, my flashboy is in the mail and arrives today. But that is supposedly one of the best games to try out aside from Faceball and Hyper Fighting. The ability to flash those 3 games made getting the Flashboy worth it.

  17.

Nuon homebrew? Or is that just short-hand for burnt discs of the 3 or 4 commercial releases?

There were 8 total Nuon commercial releases with 1 being Korean only. But on nuon-dome there are maybe 12 homebrew games that have been made. Nothing spectacular, but they can be burned and played on the Samsung N501 player, maybe the other ones too I am not sure. The page even gives step by step instructions on how to burn them, tho I still haven't figured it out, could be my burning program.

FlashBoy? Is that a flash cart? I have to ask...is the Waterworld ROM for the Virtual Boy widely available? Ex-Atarian Steve Woita made that game.

The Flashboy is a flashcart for the Virtual Boy. The roms are all available out there on emuparadise or planetvb but the homebrew demos and partially completed games are on polanetvb. The rom for Waterworld is widely available as I have played it on the raspberry pi, but not yet flashed it to the flashboy as I own a real cart of Waterworld actually and have just played that. I got the flashboy mainly for the demos and homebrew and the few commercial releases I don't have (the Japanese games and the only 2 US I don't have which are 3D Tetris and Jack Bros.)
