  1. If I were a backer, I'd be livid about that response.
  2. You're not the only one thinking this, but other people have drawn different conclusions.
  3. Yeah, that's above my head. I thought the scaling in certain Genesis games like Afterburner 2 and Space Harrier 2 looked just fine. People got excited over being able to throw enemies out of the screen in Turtles in Time, but all that happened was 5 frames of the enemy getting bigger and pixelated.
  4. The sad thing is, you'd have people defending this and acting like it's a good thing.
  5. Serious question: What exactly was that gameplay of Borderlands 2 from back at E3 running on? It was supposed to be running on the VCS, but that seems pretty unlikely in light of what we know now. It just seems like if Atari were going to put out a fake gameplay video, they would have it running a lot smoother.
  6. I think this post nails it. If this is such a great system, take the Atari name off it and put Infrogrames on it. The marketing of "Sandbox mode" was brilliant though. It's a throwback to when Sega and Nintendo gave flashy names to hardware features. "Mode 7" sounds a lot more intriguing than "Hardware scaling". In this case, Atari is selling the idea of a system running third party programs by having the user download them on their own. The exact same thing every PC can do. Pretty basic, but they found a way to sell it.
  7. Low lying fruit to be sure, but I'm feeling lazy.
  8. They just have to add that ONE thing, and they're all ready to go.
  9. I think what bothers me the most is the mismanagement of existing IP's. Shining Force is a prime example. Apparently Sega got into some kind of dispute with the guys at Camelot during SF3's development, so Camelot is long gone. The new Shining games are nothing like the old ones, so why not try the old style again? I don't understand why Sega Ages has always been spotty on what system it comes out on. Dragon Force only came out on PS2, and only in Japan? Why? Current Sega Ages games are Switch only? Why? This company really seems to enjoy leaving money on the table for some reason.
  10. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree about the current state of Sega. The last Sega game I enjoyed was Sonic Mania, and that wasn't even developed by Sega. Before that, it was Panzer Dragoon Orta or Virtua Fighter 4. It just seems like once the X360/PS3 generation rolled around, the company forgot how to make great new games. They remember how to make 16-Bit compilation collections, but that's about it.
  11. It's the same level of fanboyism that rears its head every few years to talk about Dreamcast 2. Sega isn't even a competent third party company, how could they support their own console? Speaking of which, Dreamcast sold 9 million consoles worldwide and still tanked. Not sure what kind of exclusives are coming to a system with a user base of 11,000. Supporters will say that number will go up once the system comes out. Even if that number triples to 33,000 that's still well under Ouya.
  12. Spamming your friends and family on social media. I wonder how his Amway "franchise" is doing.
  13. They've indicated in the past you can use Sandbox mode to run emulators to play games. Kinda strange to encourage a practice that is considered illegal by many, but whatever. I suppose if all they're going to sell is a box I can run emulators, why wouldn't I just buy a Raspberry PI, or just use my laptop, since it has native apps? So, I guess they could show MAME running and then say, "Look! You can play Xmen vs Street Fighter on Atari VCS!" Damn shady, and would probably get a wicked reaction from Capcom, but it would be a rare moment of honestly for Fred.
  14. I think you underestimate the knowledge young kids have with technology. Mine have no problem navigating the Xbox One OS. Sure, it's not as easy as putting in an NES cart, pushing it down, and pushing the power button, but they manage just fine. The Amico is an interesting device, to be sure. I think they're really going to have to market the heck out of it. People still remember the Atari name, which is why the VCS death march has lasted as long as it has. A new Earthworm Jim game will definitely raise the interest of a chunk of the market.
  15. What was Nintendo raking in back in the 80's before they got hammered in court?
  16. In my opinion, that was actually kinda cool.
  17. Atari's biggest enemy is itself. We are mere observers.
  18. It does seem like this crowd has very low expectations. I'm curious to see their reaction if/when it ships.
  19. Some really vindictive social media posts this morning. Who would have thought that pictures of a system being assembled would bring so much joy? All along, I thought video games were about playing games, but clearly I was wrong. It's all about pictures of a board being put in a console. 3DO, CD-I, and PC-FX were all wildly successful, because someone put them together.
  20. Will the announcement of their big summer release come on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
  21. New update for the Polymega today. They say they expect the console to be shipped to buyers by the end of February. It's nice to have someone give specific dates. I'm really interested to see if the Polymega does what it is supposed to.
