  1. I didn't see anything physically wrong, but it was the internal power supply. I swapped it out with the PS board on my old, broken TI99, and it's working fine now. I think it had a bad capacitor.

I would check solder joints really good for any that appear cracked and need to be reflowed.

  2. My power is going out about every other use on my TI99/4a. The power comes on, I use it for five minutes to an hour, turn it off, then the computer will not turn back on for several hours. But it will turn on again the next day, and the cycle continues. If you were a bettin' man, would you say that was an internal or external PS problem?

  3. Just played this MegaMania hack for the first time. Love it. I recognize the references to Pod People, Robot Monster, and Deep 13. Can anyone tell me what films all the other levels refer to?

  4. Full disclosure: my Colecovision (along with my VCS expansion) is busted right now so I can't test these. These are all my duplicates from various lots I bought on eBay. I know most of them work, but an asterisk (*) means I couldn't get them to work last time I tried them. About half have rough labels. Since I can't guarantee their condition, I'm selling each lot for $15 with free shipping in the US. Both lots for $25 (still free shipping).

  5. I own an Atari 400 and 800XL, and carts, tapes, and disks are getting more unreliable and cost prohibitive. Googling is coming up with just too many choices. What are your recommendations for modern alternatives to run games/programs on my Atari 8-bit computer?

    Atari 400:

    --cartridge ROMs

    --cassettes

    Atari 800XL:

    --cartridge ROMs

    --floppies

  6. I accidentally picked up a couple boxes of 3M High Density floppies, which are no good for my C64. I notched them and actually ran them through a C64 quick format program before realizing my mistake (one is accidentally double-notched, so I'm not sure if that side will work), and I used the labels. But you'll have 19 (maybe 20) double sided, high density 5 1/4" floppies for any early PC that can take them. Just pay shipping, which should be cheap in the US via Media Mail. If interested, send me your zip code so I can get you a shipping quote.

  7. Why is anyone still using Atari Basic while there has been Turbo Basic XL since the mid 80's ??

Because (1) I only have a stock 400, and (2) I only have the BASIC Programming Language cart, and (3) nostalgia.

Of course there's newer stuff, but if that was the point why would anyone use any flavor of BASIC at all? I'm just tinkering with some old tech from my childhood and sharing the experience with my son. He's been having a lot of fun with my old 8-bit collection, and I want to take advantage of that before he outgrows it (like his brother did). I learned (like many of us) on the school's Apple II, and got a $50 C64 in high school. That's the extent of my BASIC experience. But I recently found a tough-as-nails 400, with an Atari BASIC cart, for super cheap, and figured this would be a great first computer my son could learn from and abuse. That being said, I'm just trying to overcome some of those common BASIC commands that aren't available in Atari such as INPUT (as I know it), TAB, and CLS. We're just writing text games right now, we'll move up to graphics later.

If anyone else is interested, the best Atari BASIC book for simple programs for kids I've found so far is this: http://www.atarimania.com/documents/41-Fun-Projects-For-The-Atari.pdf.

  8. Thank you. Did they ever publish Atari BASIC game books to create simple, text-based games, like the Ahl book? I want something to give my 8-year old so he can program the games by himself.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found this awesome page - http://www.atarimania.com/documents-atari-400-800-xl-xe-books_1_8.html

In ATARI BASIC you would have to do

30 PRINT "HOW MANY GAMES"; : INPUT Q

    40 IF Q < 11 THEN GOTO 60 (I think)

  9. I am using the BASIC Computing Language cart on an Atari 400, and I am finding a lot of standard BASIC commands not working. I am trying to write some games from David Ahl's BASIC Computer Games Microcomputer Edition. For example, I get errors when I type the following simple lines:

    30 INPUT "HOW MANY GAMES";Q

    40 IF Q<11 THEN 60

I don't have the manul for the cart, what flavor of BASIC is it?

  10. I have a BROKEN Game Boy Advance SP. Screen and controls work, but I think the cartridge slot has some broken pins so carts won't load. I little chipping in the housing. It's free if you want it for parts, i.e. if you want to convert your standard GBA to a backlit screen. A small flat rate box is $6.45. So that's the most shipping will cost. GBA only, no charging cord or games.

    Gone.

  11. I've been trying to thin out the game room to make room for retro video game stuff. If you like board games, make me an offer for anything below. I'm looking for an Atari 800XL, Atari floppy and tape drives; Atari printers; Atari 7800; Atari flashcarts; C64 tape drive, C64 printers; monitors; SD2IEC; Fastloader; other add-ons; other 8-bit computers (TI, Tandy, Apple II, etc); European joysticks; games; whatever - I'm open to suggestions.

  12. I completely took apart one of my SACs, cleaned every contact and connector. I still cannot get any keypad buttons to function. I have two controllers, and not one working keypad button between them.

I know the commonality of broken SACs has been brought up before. But has anyone actually successfully repaired the keypad on their Super Action Controller? If so, could you share what you did to fix it?

    Thanks,
