You agree to pay shipping and it's yours.

That just made my day. Thanks!

What methods do you use in Collecting?
crveatch replied to crveatch's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well, I got busy with prepping for our move to the great Northwest state of Washington, but I finally got around to dividing and auctioning off my huge lot of games and systems. First bargain hunting in St. Louis... My trip was fun, but ultimately not worth it if game hunting was the only reason I was going. I got Waverace 64, MSX 64, Golden Eye 64, & an N64 10 game case at Goodwill for about $10. There was more I didn't have but damn they ask alot for a Goodwill. Then I went to Trade-N-Games, which is an awesome store to even just browse which I did for about an hour or so. They had tons of stuff I wanted reasonably priced at what I'd call the value of the game. But that's not fun in collecting to me; to pay the value. I want a freaking steal. I ended up with two boxed 3do games for a little over $10. Game X-change was another pretty cool store though they didn't seem to have as many classics as t-n-g. I did manage to find 10 common nes carts I didn't have or needed to replace do to damage for the magic number of around $10. So I didn't go home empty handed, but it was definitely stuff I could have easily gotten at a later time elsewhere. Now bargain hunting on eBay... Out of the two auctions totaling a little under $500 I kept the following. New unopened Famiclone 2 Generic control pads 2 Quick-whatever-brand wireless controllers Nes Satalite Nes Connect Four Roll & Rocker U Force 170+ Games And a shitload of strategy guides, instruction booklets and dustcovers 4 new pin connectors And other little odds and ends I auctioned off 9 lots of systems games and peripherals that I tried to make have an even amount of appeal and staggered about 15 minutes apart starting at 6:30pm pacific time. Trying to give all time zones the chance to get home and snipe on each auction. Incase they didn't win one they could go for another. Final verdict: in my opinion eBay wins hands down. I kept all the above mentioned plus more I'm probably forgetting since I've already packed it away and I made a whopping total of $730. A net gain of close to $250! I expected to maybe break even since I was keeping so much stuff, but to be up is just awesome. My wife was even thrilled and now encourages me to continue with my video game collecting hobby. She said something along the lines of needing to do that about once a week. -
In fact five dollars to the person that first posts a pic of themself with this setup. I do reserve the right to use it as my avatar.

Come On Guys... Everyone knows the best controller setup for NES is the Pwoer Glove with the Konami Laser Scope while running on the Powerpad. You also look really cool while doing it.
-
OK, you see it talked reffered to all the time for Atari games but what about label variations for NES? I've noticed for a couple of my copies that the seal of approval is different or the label is layed out a bit differently. In most cases the warning label on the back is different too with some noting a year and some not. For collecting purposes which should I keep?
-
DOOOOO-IT! Just don't step on my toes it the auction house.
-
Yep, but that's mainly because I'm anticipating moving in May and have already started to box my stuff up. I now spend most of my time dreaming up elaborate setups for organizing and showing of my collection. And I should really stop buying stuff until I figure out a plan.

Thanks I created it myself. It seemed most appropriate. So Any STL People in the house have some suggestions of places I should hit up while in town this week besides Trade-N-Games? -
I'm no expert, but I could definitely buy a snes and toaster nes for less than I could buy a top loader.

I do the same. I just consider it part of the price of the game. If a person doesn't list shipping up front and refuses to give me a straight price through email I won't bid on it. My problem is that I can't really justify buying a single game unless it's rare, because I have to have it shipped. I don't get why some people hate ebay or as they put it epay so much. Is it because of the inflated prices? There's inflated prices most everywhere from time to time. Is it that they've had bad experiences? I see that as more of a problem with the seller and not ebay. That's why there's feedback ratings. I never buy from someone who has had negative feedback and never a big ticket item from someone with low feedback and I've never gotten ripped off. Before I turn this into a big ebay lovefest I will just say that as an individual who requires a wheelchair the convenience of shopping from home rather than a flee market, which 50% of seem not to be very accessible thus are a big pain in my ass to get in and navigate, where was I going with this? Well its a good thing. In closing I do plan to put this sites many helpful users and marketplace to work when the time is right. It's just that now there's not so much gaps in my collections as there are big gaping holes. -

Ooh, I forgot about garage sells, but they're probably my favorite method. I Got my Atari Heavy Sixer and 7800 with 20 games and holder for 5 bucks at a garage sell once. I like receiving packages through the mail too so that's a bit exciting. Not as exciting as finding something in the wild of course, but fun enough. A trip to STL and back would be more expensive than shipping, but it just so happens that I'm going there for other reasons Monday through Thursday so I'll definitely be hitting up the flea markets, thrift stores, and Trade-N-Games. I just did my taxes and thanks to my grad student wife will be receiving a fat rebate check. Exxxcellent. -
Dittos to that.

My bimonthly visits to thrift stores, antique malls, and pawn shops most always turn out to be a complete bust. The only place I can find used games is my local Slackers, but they ask ungodly ammounts for most items. The only games I usually pick up are the ultra common games for a buck and that's mainly for the unbroken cases. I about shit myself to find an American Laser Gun for 3DO in box for $10 just to find out that the box was empty and they didn't have the gun anymore. So all this lack of gaming goods has drove me to search eBay for bargains. But to buy a single game or even a small group of games usually isn't very economical considering the inflated shipping prices. So I've bought two large lots that eneded late evening/early morning of something like 300 NES games, 9 working NES systems, Famiclone, 3 Power Pads, 2 ROBs, and a ton of crazy peripherals. There's probably a hundred or so titles I already have, but my thinking was that I'd take the time to actually divy up all the games and systems and accessories I have duplicates of and sell them off to regain some of my money. I'll let you know how that goes in two to three weeks. But I was just wondering how does everyone else collect for classic consoles. Does anyone else go the buy and resell route or have you found it more advantages to buy and trade? Are you an aggressive collecter or more passive? It just seems to me like the ultra common carts are only good as filler to push the lot total of games up in an auction. And what good is filler without those one or two key games that people really want? For example "18 Common Carts" is a bit boring and isn't going to fetch any high bids. "Zelda or Contra for NES" may fetch a few bucks. But "NES System w/20 Games Including Zelda & Contra!!!" is a hot item.

Yikes, give someone else a chance to get at least one copy of a few system swill ya? How long did it take you to stack the games for each of those pictures?

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

Your talking doll pictures both confuses and frightens me. Columbia Missouri Thrift stores continue to be full of useless non video game related crappola. What I wouldn't give for atleast an overpriced collectible something. -
Just a thought on the next-gen systems.

Reasons I don't use my DS much after buying it
crveatch replied to MegaManFan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
But with a stylus how would you know if it was a left jab or right jab or an uppercut. How would you dodge or block with one hand occupied by such a limited peripherel? Sorry to be poo-pooing your idea, but I just hate stylus gameplay with a passion and have ever since my first palm pilot. It's so limited compared to what a thumb and index finger are capable of with the right button placement . It's not like you need to specify hitting center of head or top-left of head. Besides first person shooters and card/board games I really don't see there being an advantage over conventional methods. Take Mario 64 for example who here thinks they can run through the ds version faster than the N64? Granted this biased opinion is based on days of play on assorted palm pilots, compaq, and clie' devices and not a ds. -
Livin' in the portable gaming ghetto

Now if the PSP value pack came this pimped out I would totally be there. Anyone got the number for a good handheld detailing shop? -
I would totally bid on this if I lived anywhere near him, but shipping is probably going to nbe as much as the auction.

What would get you to buy a next-gen system?
crveatch replied to jedijeff's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Free Hookers that's all I ask. -
Yikes. I usually find my extra cases by buying old sports titles for a buck from slackers and changing cases then selling the game back to them in my cracked case for a quarter. 75 cents and you have an almost like new case.

The UMD movies will be great quality... on the PSP. The storage size is perfect for the screen spec. Now if some how you hooked it up to your 40 inch plasma TV I'm sure it would cease to look so hot. My problem with it is who's going to buy a movie they can only watch on the PSP? How many people ran out and bought albums they could only listen to on their Mini Disc player? Hasn't Sony been down this road before? I still think the PSP will survive despite the poor decisions Sony seems to be making. The Playstation had shit to play for about a year and a half. I got that on it's release along with the only game I ever played more than once for it (Battle Arena Toshinden) before selling it to buy a N64. Then the third party support started to flow in and and I was insanely jealous of Playstation owners having what seemed like a tidal wave of games compared to Nintendos dripping faucet of "Quality of Quantity" titles. But I don't see why some people are so hung up on the Handheld Market Winner and Loser thing. More consoles and more games to choose from means we're the winners. Why be a hater? Unless your twelve like I was and just jealous.

The only way I'd watch a movie on the PSP is A) they give me one for free or B) someone comes up with a way for me to rip and burn the DVDs I own to UMD. Playing music is a nice feature that I'm sure I'd use from time to time. But 250 bucks plus 50 more bucks for a game is asking too much. I'll definitely be waiting. I was leaning towards PSP before this announcement, but now I'll definetly be getting a DS first.
