Games aren't supposed to be fun! (I did not know that!)
crveatch replied to Flojomojo's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Exactly, I have my video game and movie critics who I know I tend to agree with and stick with them. Pandering to the lowest common denomonator isn't the answer. You just try to look for the critic with the most similar tastes and that you find enjoyable to read. -

As much as Flojomojo may be taking the kid out of context I think you're giving him a bit to much credit, maibok. For example... "Yuck. The graphics are OK, but the game is so sickeningly cute that it is virtually intolerable to play. There is voice, though." As much as some gaming sites and magazines may be biased in their reviews at least they're informative and I don't have to turn my contrast up to read it. -
The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
crveatch replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Man, my thrift stores suck ass. I think it may be because I'm in a college town. If anyone's getting rid of old stuff it's probably a college kid in need of beer money, so they just take it to Slackers or EB. Anyway I did rummage KBToys 75% off bargain bin and got a 5" LCD screen & Multitap for PSOne; NFl 2K1, NHL 2K1, MLB 2K1 for Dreamcast; Skygunner, Stretch Panic, Parappa The Rapper 2, NFL 2k3 Black & Bruised, Ejay Clubworld, Silphead: The Lost Planet, & Primal for PS2; and was suprised to find Mathmagic, Psychic Detectives, Waialae Country Club Golf, World Cup Golf & Zhadnost for 3DO. All for a little under $80. Noting I was too excited about other than the 3DO games and the cheapass LCD screen, but great cheap additions to my collection for all unopened unused. -
Do you know if there is any issues with using a demodulator on rf systems like sms and nes? Does it mess with the light gun sensor at all?
-
Cool, thanks. I actually got a gift certificate for Wal-Mart and wasn't sure what I was going to do with it.

I think I will go the selector route. To get something at Radio Shack to make the signal flow mono directional would be insanely expensive. Looks like I'll just have to start a Y connector ball collection. Leaving them unhoocked really isn't an option for me as I've gone that route in the past and the unhoocked systems go neglected. I found some AV selectors from Sony that will automatically switch, but you know since I'll have to go up there to flip the game on what's one more button to push?

That's very nice. Is it sitting on a dryer? So in your pinion is the capcom fighting stick rare enought o be worth $12?
-
Exactly. I have about 30 or more Y connectors that it would be cool to do something useful with yet consolodate the rat's nest of wires crammed behind my system. I suppose if nothing else I could always place thos all braided in a slightly bigger box. Not that I doubt your knowledge, but I think I'll pay my local Radio Shack nerd a visit tomorrow to see what he suggests. He's always been pretty helpful on past projects. But considering I'm going to need 30 of whatever magic item that will make the flow monodirection or what-have-you there's going to come a point where I'm going to have to decide if the cost will be worth it.
-
Is there a part at Radio Shack that I could buy to buffer the signal that only allows the signal to flow one direction?
-
OK, thanks. Back to the drawing board to add a switching mechanism.

System that when they were new you couldent have

I too had a dream of getting a Nero Geo that will probably never be fullfilled. A friend of mine's mom married a multimillionare, so he ended up with one with what seemed like back then every game imaginable. Maybe I should have tried to keep in better touch with him, since it's probably all stored away in his house sized closet somewhere now. -
OK so here's a rough sketch of what I'm thinking about doing. Question 1 Is there a device that can be purchased cheaply that is like this? (Not a multiselecter) Question 2 On step 2 should I solder or use electrical tape or both? Question 3 On step 5 is there a better method to mounting the connectors through wholes drilled in the wood box other than hot glue?

Just an observation, but that Saturn joystick sort of resembles an "adult toy" if you catch my drift. -
Yeah, You'll gain about 2 levels every "star stage". But that's really about all you need. Invest in badge points primarily. And later on you'll be gaining coins like mad. I wouldn't worry about items too much early on. I only used the life shrooms and fifty hp shrooms on the last few stages. I loved this game too. I played it nonstop for a week until I had a hundred percent complete. I really like the inventiveness and problem solving involved to pass through some of the levels.

I just looked at your collection Lemmi. I think I'll try and find a Gamepad 6, Fighting Sword, or Rock 3.
-
Holy crap! That's one odd looking accessory. No wonder the guy trying to sell it to me when pressed for more details just descibed it as a six button controller. Yeah, I think I'll keep looking. Thanks. Maybe I'll try the 3Dzero
-
Oh yeah. And I also have no real idea how I'm going to mount these inside a box with the connecters sticking out. Hot glue gun is the best idea I've got thus far.
-
Right now I have s load of Y connectors that i use to branch my rca inputs so I can have 10 systems connected at once. I was thinking of taking five Y connectors and stripping the mail ends and attaching them to an rca cable then making two more of these and mounting them in a box. Sort of like my own home made combiner. First off is there something cheep out there that already does this? I don't want to have to select the game system I want them all to be able to just be turned on to work. So a game selecter isn't the answer. Secondly if I do do this should i solder or just electrical tape? Any suggestions appreciated.

Anyone have one of these they can take a picture of or describe to me. I just got a ton of 3DO stuff including Super Street Fighter II Turbo and the standard 3DO controller just doesn't cut it.

What's the deal with the modern Mario games?
crveatch replied to Room 34's topic in Modern Console Discussion
If you are looking for games more like SMB 1, 2 & 3. Go get a Super Nintendo and Super Mario World 1 & 2. They're like SMB3 on steroids. And after those you may want to check out Mario N64, but only if you can enjoy a 3d game with some classic run and jump play mechanics. -
What do you think of the Chainsaw controller
crveatch replied to figgler's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Man, If they'd just moved the d pad and joystick down to the side handle and the buttons around the second handle with maybe two triggers and got rid of the base, you know changed it completely, I'd buy it. -
They don't have a standalone, like reverse RF Modulator device?
-
So my old nes is finally starting to give me trouble and I'd rather not mod it since it's the only orignal nes I have at the moment. I was looking at the top loader models and came across this thread and read about the display problems with that model. So now I've decided on getting a famicom, but the question remains which one? I really hate the look of all the new models being sold. Then I found the old red and white and instantly fell in love. Something about the shiny red plastic sends my heart in a flutter, I dunno. Anyway I was wondering if these to had any issues of the connectors going bad that I should be aware of. Also am I going to need a special convertor for my tv and power supply?

Check out my Portable Dreamcast.......
crveatch replied to dkap01's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Someone should document the altering of one of these systems. I'd love to watch someone go through the process of designing and making one of these. Like monster garage or one of those motorcycle making shows that are on all the time now, but about video game mods. I'm sure there's possibly alot of legal reasons why you couldn't. But damn that'd be cool. -
That caught my eye as well. I don't get this game. If all you get is girls gone wild type footage why not skip the questions and just buy a girls gone wild video and save yourself 30 bucks?
