  1. If there is damaged pins yes the Rom won't run and you wouldn't get much of any visuals. I would just clean up the outside and use it for parts / display model. That is unless you want to change out the cartridge port.
  2. If it was found who owns it and legitimately purchased by the community and released to the public domain a torrent of creativity could be unleashed. Maybe even Atari Age could get in on the action selling hacks or reproductions.
  3. In one version of the manual it was consensual. I just was interested in what happened to the corpse of Playaround and if there are still rights laying around. Much like the iconic story of the Wolfenstein rights which were purchased by id software from some random old lady.
  4. A Because it is about history and tracing the rights to one of the most infamous games. It is about finding out what happened to the game that brought many joy. And possibly to crowdfund buying the rights so it can be released to public domain for preservation purposes.
  5. Who owns the rights to Custer's Revenge? I know mystique was sold to Playaround but what happened to the IP since Playaround? It would be great to see a mobile game, 7800 release and HD remake. It would also be great to see a Hollywood production based on Custer's Revenge(it would be a better love story than Twilight). But all of that can't happen if the IP holder doesn't greenlight it.
  6. No, but I just switched the difficulty switch and it is working now. Thanks.
  7. EDIT I switched the difficulty switch and it is now working So I recently got a 7800 (with expansion port) up and running so I decided to test a couple of games. To my surprise the cult classic Koolaid Man has an incompatibility, where it freezes before the intro animation of the Koolaid man doing his signature breaking through the wall. I cleaned everything and tried again to no avail. I popped it into my 4 switch woody and it popped up with the Koolaid man busting through the wall. That brings me to the question; what other 2600 games are known to not work with the 7800?
  8. This is my inspiration if you want to see a setup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhRqDlGmrK8
  9. I would advise the use of a VHS player, if you are going retro why not have a VHS player? You can demodulate with the VHS and feed it to a RetroTink 2X but if you hate VHS so much you can AV mod your Atari which basically bypasses the RF modulator on the Atari and you get regular RCA AV ports that you can feed into the RetroTink and get that sweet HDMI. RetroTink will give you lag free scaling and make gaming on an HDTV easier with less lag just make sure you set your TV to game mode.
  10. The standard atari controller is a bat top and that was the standard for US style joysticks. Edladdin is using a Japanese style stick and the octagonal restrictor plate would be a good thing to know if I go that route. I was thinking of having an aux port for the 4 player games / keyboard controller. Ideally I want to have a paddle spinner on each side built in like the atari kiosk.
  11. If you were making an Atari 2600 Arcade what joysticks would you use? What style of arcade quality sticks would you use to be the most playable for the games and the most authentic to early Atari / US based arcade games? I was thinking the IL Eurostick or the Happ Competition pro do any of you have any other suggestions?
  12. You could do that but it ends up being a logistical nightmare, it will add to the complexity of the event and limit participation. You are better off with a $2 entry fee plus one cart and the fee goes towards a premium game or set. Then you can build a castle or something out of the stack of carts with the grand prize nestled on the top for all to see.
  13. Prize winner wins 30 combats and 20 Pacmans 10 pitfalls 10 home runs, and 20 random telegames that no one wanted in their collection. I don't know if that would be a good idea other than seeing a massive stack of carts
  14. I am revealing the Dactar game, to be a pirate version of Activision's Grand Prix!
  15. Any game that doesn't rely on the R / L buttons is playable as the pad includes the directional and shape buttons as well as start and select. I am using a PS2 dance pad as part of my project.
  16. Atari / Retro videogame podcast recommendations, what is in your podcatcher? What if any are podcasts focusing on retro videogames / atari 2600. Is there any media of this kind if so share your favorites.
  17. Beat em Eat em won't work and Bachelor Party won't work either as they are both paddle controllers. Custer's revenge may work though. I don't own any though, they are on my list of games to get.
  18. . Looks like fun I hope it is a joystick game otherwise it won't work.
  19. Activision Decathlon is the only one out the bunch I own. I don't know anything about this game, what is the gameplay like?
  20. I was thinking of modding a Playstation DDR pad for use on the 2600 / sega genesis. The question is what games do you think would be the most playable / fun, I will use your suggestions when I am testing. The ones I think so far would be fun are the maze games like Ms. Pacman, and Maze Craze. Some other ones will be Tapper, keystone kapers, freeway and frogger. What are your thoughts and suggestions?
  21. You may be fine with everything but things happen, not to want to get morbid but being mortal you can die like anyone else at any time suddenly and unexpeced. Would people selling the collection in an estate sale know? Do any loved ones / will executors know? Furthermore while you may be honorable others may not or simply may not care or forget. Speaking of which you also may unknowingly forget due to medical conditions or common brain farts we all get. When I say difference it could be subtle like a R in fine print or a registered sign ® in the lower left or right which can be overlooked unless someone knows what to look for so it feels and looks mostly original. Having a small difference can make a world of difference for appraisers, collectors and resellers long after it trades hands for any reason.
  22. I personally do have a problem if there is no indication that it is a repro. If it is a 1-1 copy it is knocking off the original artwork and can be used to con collectors when they re-enter the market as higher quality originals.
