  1. Mario Bros. tends to get lots of love & affection around here, maybe mainly since it seems to be an accomplishment on the system & a fairly decent co-op game, but if you're familiar with/used to the arcade game, there are several subtle gameplay elements missing from the home version that will bother you.

Yeah I would add that one to my list also. The original Mario Brothers is poor when compared to SMB for NES and DK even for the VCS. Boring boring boring.

  2. What are some near universally popular VCS games that do little or nothing for you?

There are two that fit neatly into that category with me and they are

Pitfall Just falling into a bunch of holes like ET gets scorned for doing while running around with no music or real sounds. Boring game.

Yar's Revenge My least favorite space shooter. Shooting sideways at walls (yawn) Excuse me while I play Space Jockey instead.

  3. It certainly was a sad state of affairs as I watched the arcades "die", but perhaps it was the natural progression of the video game industry for all of us to be able to enjoy that quality in our homes. There are a few machines scattered about in various locations...an occasional Pac-man here, pinball machine there, but few and far between. Even if someone tried to bring them back to a locale, I doubt they would survive very long around these parts.

Watching one of my favorite arcades, More Fun, first move from one location to the next in an effort to stay afloat, then fade into obscurity, was heart-wrenching. Next thing I knew it was gone, empty, and all the old machines vanished into the wind. :(

Yip, the only arcade games around my area are in a Pizza buffet and marketed toward children. A racing game and one where you shoot baskets. Just simple stuff that gives tickets :( I think most really casual gamers that used to drop a few quarters just play Android and IPhone games nowadays.

  4. I'm typing under the influence of Crown Royal but I can't think of any 2600 game that I liked better than the arcade counterpart. As a 12 year old in 1982 what I did like was the fact that I could play all day long without feeding quarters into the machines at Aladdin's Castle in Eastdale Mall. The games were not quite as good but they were free! My parents typically paid for them though:)

I dig that. Before I owned my Atari I used to daydream of having two or three arcade machines in my bedroom :) The VCS really was that to me.

  5.

I am sick of not having a BluRay of the new Star Wars movie to watch, which of course would have to be free.

Actually, what I meant to say, was, how do you think Hozer is making repros of it? :ponder:

Ah! I didn't read this whole thread....and had no idea Hozer even still existed much less selling RSC pirates.

  6.

Which emulator are you using to run the SNES games? Coinops, zsnesxbox or Snes9xbox?

SnexXbox It is working great but the 7800 emulator ain't workin' for shit . I have it loaded with a full romset of VCS and 7800 games but everytime i try to play one it says "No Header. Will have to be configured manually press B button" and when I press the B button it just goes to a menu where u choose PAL NTSC and other useless stuff. Im at a loss on how to play the Atari games.

  7. Got my Modded XBox back and I have to say I am really intrigued by the SNES emulator and games. I am one of the people who jumped straight from NES and Gameboy to the Playstation so I have very little experience with SNES or it's library but now having every ROM right here on the XBox is causing me to really appreciate that system and era. I pretty much missed the entire fourth generation of consoles due to my terrible working hours in the early nineties and having a girlfriend who needed tons of attention :) Seems some really cool stuff was on that platform.

  8. A coworker gave me an original XBox with a 2005 manufacture date and a handful of games today. My fiance-in-law (ex-wife's fiance) who is a tech geek told he he can mod it for me to run all sorts of older systems. He said the stock memory of the Xbox would not be enough to take a bunch of MAME roms and every game for every console so I told him to try and fit a VCS emu and all the roms and if possible the same for NES and SNES onto it and he said he would fit all that he can onto it for me.

Question is WILL it hold all the games for these systems?? What can I reasonably expect it to store with it's original memory storage?

    Thanks for any answers.

  9. One thing that is not in the platform would be the old 1930's style flipperless pinball games like Baffle Ball and Ballyhoo and the later early EM machines. These games were recreated to a degree on Microsoft Pinball Arcade and in a lesser form on the GBC version of the same but I wonder how well they could be programmed for the VCS?

Not a programmer myself but just something to think about/something on my mind.
