  1. 43 - SPACE SHUTTLE : A JOURNEY INTO SPACE Atari screenshots Ok, Space Invaders is too old game for my taste. This time we try a more complex classic SPACE SHUTTLE. In his time this game is awesome and for some seconds you can feel the power to reach the space. I always remember the 2600 version, the good graphics, and the Atari 8bit version have the same graphics. The C64 version can't reach the same quality graphics because of his reduced color palette. C64 screenshots
  2. 42 - SPACE INVADERS Atari screenshot A classic game, well programmed on Atari computers on different versions. C64 screenshot
  3. 41 - RESCUE ON FRACTALUS Atari screenshots Atri have better music, intro, fast animation, playability, a lot of colors from his palette to view the sunshine, sunrise and explosions. In brief, every bit of ROF is better on Atari. For sure one of the top most important games that show Atari Tech at his splendor. C64 screenshots
  4. Well, some background to Shanghai which you may not know: It was german programmer Peter Sabath who ported the A8 version from the C64. Originally he cracked the C64 version, ported the code and made an A8 version out of it (a pirate version/port at that phase). But luckily (or not?) he asked Activision if they would release his A8 version officially. At first they were not interested, because they thought the A8 market was already too small. But since Peter was a member of Abbuc he wrote about this in the Abbuc magazine and then Wolfgang Burger (Abbuc chief, at that time approx. with 800 members userbase) and some Abbuc members also wrote to Activision and even pre-ordered the game - and so in the end the game was officially distributed by Activision... One can only imagine what would have happened if Activision had refused to publish the game, maybe it would have been around as an unofficial copy (like some protos or 5200 conversions), but maybe it would not have seen the light of day... -Andreas Koch. Interesting story, amazing details. I guess now why Shanghai is the last released Activision game for Atari 8bit computers.
  5. 40 - SHANGHAI Atari screenshots A classic puzzle Chinese game. It's very adictive, i have seen other versions on both systems, but this version is from the same company publisher. I prefer the Atari shell instead the C64 version. C64 screenshots
  6. 39 - SEAFOX Atari screenshots Really this game is very slow for my taste. But, when levels are advanced, C64 version is too slow to manage the sprites. However, there is better and more colors on Atari version. C64 screenshots
  7. Great! but I'd prefer the intro latin version of Die Biene Maja. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXKQFjcbmi4
  8. C64 sure looks better in this shot. The rest looks pretty much equal. Stephen Anderson First, don't believe so much on screenshots, in this game you have to play at least on emulators. You're right the C64 trees are well drawn, but it seems forgot the blue sky. The little characters along of the puzzle are painted with lot of colors on Atari version (even Pitfall Harris have 4 colors, and I count more colors on other characters). After this, take a view of the motions of the things, really you have to play some time on both platforms. If this all don't convince, take in consideration Pitfall have a second giant map adventure. Only for this detail, the Atari version should be the best version. After all, the appreciations are a subjective thing. But, try, screenshots or youtube videos only say the 50%.
  9. 38 - PITFALL 2 Atari screenshots This time, Atari came with a great Activision game. A second part of a well known character: Pitfall. Atari version was programmed in the same style of Activision classics, have a exclusive second map after you finished the first adventure, better graphics sprites and strong music. C64 screenshots
  10. 37 - OGRE Atari screenshots A great strategy game, one of the best that I've played on a 8bit system, great graphics and very addictive. Atari is using the artifact colors, the screen looks very clear, similar to a Macintosh OS, and the best of all, is faster than the C64 version. C64 screenshots
  11. And don't forget, you should pay at least $1000 for the work.
  12. 36 - NINJA Atari screenshots Atari forget the graphics intro, but the game have a lot of colors. Great chambers at oriental style. Now, it looks easy to finish, but on his time was really hard to play. C64 screenshots
  13. Congratulations! it worth the wait, looks fantastic!
  14. Que este año venidero sea resumen de numerosos y mejores proyectos de Atari. Feliz Navidad y próspero año nuevo!
  15. 35 - MR. DO ! Atari screenshots There is no doubt where you want to mix colors, graphics, sound and motion on one game, Atari is the best system to work, not easy, but the results worth the wait. Atari version was programmed using hardware sprites and software sprites, good set of colors on screen, nice arcade music, intermediate screen. In brief the best version, only comparable to the NES counterpart. C64 screenshots
  16. 34 - MONTEZUMA'S REVENGE Atari screenshots The Atari version have a better choice of colors on mazes design, a nice intro, intermediate animations, hiscore screen, a chief, and 100 chamber across this adventure. Only Atari count with the original version. C64 screenshots
  17. 33 - MERCENARY Atari screenshots This game is a great 3D adventure, and really one of the most amazing games on his time, maybe the perfect 3D game for a modest 8bit system. The rendering process is fast on Atari system because the fast CPU, only a little more frames per second than C64. But, if you start the game pressing SELECT button on start-up, you have the 48K version with 160x100 graphics, the rendering is very smooth in this mode, and I prefer to play here. I suspect the C64 version hasn't this option. A great game for a faster computer. C64 screenshots
  18. Thank you Patjomki for your recopilation. This C64 game NetRacer seems very near to Speed Up! Atari game.
  19. 32 - MARIO BROSS Atari screenshots The best version of Mario Bross on Atari include a lot of additions as intermediate shows, better design platforms, better pictures, more colors. A great classic well done on Atari. I prefer this version (XE version), but others could prefer the old version o hacked version because the good speed motion. C64 screenshots
  20. It's true... December 1978 Happy 30th anniversary to Atari 8bit System!
  21. 31 - KORONIS RIFT Atari screenshots Impressive work for both versions, the programmers worked with very high details in it. However the Atari graphics is impressive, maybe one of the few games that use all GTIA capabilities. You will need a manual to understand how to play this, not easy or intuitive interface. C64 screenshots
  22. The best vertical shooter I've seen on Atari is TIGER ATTACK. Good graphics, include a little horizontal scroll, good motion, background music.
  23. 30 - JUNGLE HUNT Atari screenshots A classic game, both versions had been programmed equal, only differs from color choice. Off course, the Atari version have the better set if we want to imagine a jungle. C64 screenshots
  24. 29 - H.E.R.O Atari screenshots A great classic. C64 have walls at hi-res, but i think the Atari is the best for the extra colors of different luminance, those are good screen for the eyes. Even the 2600 version is great! C64 screenshots
