28 - HENRY'S HOUSE Atari screenshots In this game C64 did the best effort to create a multicolored game. Use many colors and use his ability to mix med and hi-res cells. Despite all, Atari is the best version because is more colored. A good technical example how Atari beat a C64. C64 screenshots

28 - GALAXIAN Atari screenshots Atari is the king of the classics. That's one of the reasons why I prefer this machine. But really C64 is a pain without his sprites, I can't believe how bad is the playability on the C64 version. C64 screenshots

27 - FROGGER 2 Atari screenshots Another game well ported on both platforms. The screenshots show the differences about he color applied on the game. Both games are colorful, but Atari have painted with better detail. The playability on Atari is very very good, the frog moves quickly and smoothly. C64 screenshots

Congratulations! Nice machine. I recommend take a lot of picture of different angles with a hi-res camera. Maybe is the last new 1200XL. We need those pictures for promoting purposes.

For the first device for your Atari I can recommend 2 storage devices: SIO2PC USB version ----------------------- You can connect the Atari with the PC using SIO bus. With a little Windows software, you can easily emulate drives, printer , modems, transfer files from PC to a disk drive, or get images from a diskette. Compatiblyty at 100% SIO2SD --------- This device is easy to use. Emulates up to 8 drives, and organize your XEX and ATR images on a simple SD card. Using a PC, you can save on the SD your favorites images. Compatibility at 100% Otherway, this solution is a little more complex: MyIDE+Flash Card ---------------------- There are 2 types of this product: EXTERNAL: you can connect the MyIDE+Flash card on the cartridge slot. Don't require soldering INTERNAL: It goes inside the case, and require you remove the BIOS chip. On your 65Xe most sure you will need desoldering. The best HD you can buy for this solution, is the TRASCEND flash HD. They are little and don't require batteries. You can import an export images an files using a PC, but need some experience on this procedures, because require more software and considerations. The compatibility is about 70% with the Atari software database. If you desire to connect SD cards or CF memories on the MyIDE+Flash card, you need to buy IDE2SD or IDE2CF conversors.

26 - FIGHTER PILOT Atari screenshots Always, simulation games will work better on an Atari version. This game isn't the exception. Only for lovers of this genre. You should need to review your manual first. C64 screenshots

25 - FROGGER Atari screenshot Frogger is one game that fits on Atari Antic capabilities. Many colors and scrolls on both sides. I think this version is better than arcade. C64 screenshot

Steve Jobs was a lucky man. On older days of Atari Steve Jobs enter to the team, just because Atari needs very urgent more people. But Steve, doesn't have any technical knowledge about computers. He wasn't capable to design, repair, solder any circuit. But have his friend Steve Wozniak who help a lot on some things. (I think everybody remember for example the Breakout story). Really, Jobs was a step to go out of Atari. Brilliant, he take care about Alcorn was hiding real project progresses, so he converted on a confident for Bushnell. All the things happened on Atari, Jobs told to Bushnell. In this way Jobs, stay on Atari without the enough knowledge to do.

24 - DROPZONE Atari screenshots There is no words to add about a game that has been discussed many times on different topics. C64 Screenshots

You can't see it on screenshots, but it is more fun to play What fun could be when you have to wait minutes between everything happens.

I dont. Oswald sorry, but you don't deserve to know the truth, because you don't want to find it. Really, I can't imagine now, what kind of picture you have on mind over Atari, but for sure nothing near to the reality. I guess you only stay here to waste the time of people and yours off course.

lol, you remind me the old days of chained questions of C64 users. :) Just one good example is enough, and there are at least 30 games with this mode on ingame screen. I'm curious, how do you test Atari games: 0- I do nothing for testing 1- I imagine how could be 2- I look screenshots 3- I read commentaries about this game version 4- I test on an Atari emulator 5- I test on a real Atari machine 6- I finished the games on emulator or real machine

23 - CRACK UP! Atari screenshots As I said before, Atari have good breakout games style. C64 screenshots

But those 21 titles combined do not even surpass the greatness that is Turrican!! What Turrican? .... Turrican 1? 2? ... maybe there is a Turrican 5 that i ignored. Because the Turrican I played on a C64, haven't nothing extraordinary over the possibilities of Atari. Maybe a lot of work, but there are good way how to improve the overrated C64 version.

The best model is Atari 130XE. But is hard to find one. More easy and cheaper will be a 800XL and work with 85% of software. I think the Atari 800XE have those problems with GTIA chip. I didn't include the 800XE on the list before.

Always there are minor changes between models. But, taking only consideration on gameplay we have: December 1978 ------------------ Atari 400 8K - Atari 800 16K Both implemented with temporary graphic chip CTIA, meanwhile GTIA was finishing. 1980 ------ Atari 400 16K - Atari 800 48K -> Both implemented with GTIA chip With replaced GTIA chip, the Atari add 3 new graphic modes called GTIA modes and in these modes is capable to reach 256 colors instead 128. 1982 ------ Atari 1200XL 64K - Atari 800XL 64K - 600XL 16K - 1450XL 64K Sound from internal speaker ("the 5th channel") was added to the sound line on TV. Joystick ports was reduced from 4 to 2 Built in Basic language 1984 ----- Atari 65XE 64K - Atari 130XE 128K 130XE add 16K memory banking system. 1986 ------ Atari XEGS 64K Build in Missile Command.

22 - DEFENDER Atari screenshots This time C64 have the best colors in it, but the action and impressive explosions are on Atari version. On advanced levels you feel like the boss of the universe!, thanks for the 1.7Mhz speed. In February 1980 Williams Electronics decided to hire Eugene Javis to create his first video game called DEFENDER. Jarvis was a fanatic of the violence and action, so he focused on chaos when he starting the design of his first video game. First, he think on a game similar to Space Invaders, after a few time he change the concept for an Asteroids clone. he wasn't happy with the size of screen: At 1983, Steve Baker ported the arcade DEFENDER game for Atari 800 machines. 21 - CRYSTAL CASTLES Atari screenshots I didn't expect nothing less for the company who create this game. Atari have the best porting and two versions for anyone who is interested. Excellent sound effects a great idea on his time. C64 screenshots

20 - CROSSBOW Atari screenshots A simple game for Atari, is a lot of fun for the XEGS users o whenever have the gunlight controls. Instead the C64 version has a bad gfx look, and bored loading times to get the next level or menu. Really this game is not fun with joysticks. C64 screenshots
-
19 - BRISTLES Atari screenshots The same game in both machines. There are difference on the colors used. I'd prefer the Atari version, looks more cool, colors has been chosen from his large palette. High levels it so frustating, I hate the girl who put her hands on my recently painted walls. C64 screenshots

I'm comparing same title productions only, according to the request of this topic. Arkanoid Atari version is inferior to C64 version. Other side, I think Atari have better developed breakout style games than Arkanoid. Break it! is one of them for example. Yes, but you use some other c64 game than Arkanoid in your comparison pictures. What is this game, and how is it relevant to your comparison between Arkanoid (c64) and Break-It (Atari)? Here the first post from this topic:

This is the first time I hear about that. I don't think you are right, never seen a "slow loader" on C64, most protection schemes were also fastloaders. And that's not all. If the drive have a read error, then you must turn off the drive, the computer, and start all again. Ooops!
