I agree that to start you should remove the mod board from the equation. These consoles have so many potential issues, it's better to start with the basics. Also I haven't seen yurkies board personally so I can't comment on it. I have 2 versions of my board on OSHPark both are designed to be extremely small and use SMD components with tight tolerances.

If you have pictures of your install it would be easy to determine whether your connections are good.

Their install instructions are correct. Immediate guesses, you hooked up video to the wrong place, something is shorting, or the composite board could be bad.

Well just make sure that you don't post anything negative about the product on their forum. Apparently it upsets them. Can't wait to hear the update from Alex. I expect it to be another golden quote like "Quality can't be measured." -
I'd agree these seem high. I literally just bought a FZ-10 with 6 real games, 2 controllers, and all hookups for $150 shipped from eBay. Unless the light gun itself is worth some crazy amount.

This is awesome plasticbugs! I'm really glad to see more people getting these installed. I wish I could take more credit but honestly citrus deserves all the credit. I'm just the guy putting these tiny things together. I have still been compiling more pictures and unfortunately just got really busy. I will still be updating the install instructions and will include some suggestions for jack placement. I have found a few good places for them, depending on what you go with. If anyone needs any assistance when doing these installs, just reach out. I am glad to help where I can. Honestly this is really awesome.

Yeah. I can confirm that the way the Colecovision RGB mod works won't allow for RGB with the expansion unit. I have considered opening mine up to see if I could come up with something for the video but it hasn't been a high enough priority. One thing to keep in mind is that you are going to be limited on what you can ultimately do without just using a video connector on the expansion module itself.

There are definitely less than 100 v1's in the wild. You had to be a day 1 or maybe even day 2/3 purchaser to have gotten a v1. Aside from having jailbars, the PC Engine is actually known for having some of the best composite video quality out of any console. Not sure where this rumor that they had poor stock video quality came from. Until this device and it's issues, I had not once heard of anyone saying the stock video was poor quality. Also the jailbar fix is incredibly easy and even novice solderers are usually able to do it. I agree though that the TO team seems to have just thrown their hands in the air and given up on trying to fix the issues. They really just want the community to solve the issues and let them move on. -
True. But they are great candidates for the RGB mod.

Per TerraOnion, they are experts at digital circuits, not analog. So they will never offer RGB again on any product they make. -

There are still legitimate circuit issues in the v2 board. Voultar identified that there are issues and even commented that there are issues. The audio issues are not corrected with the firmware but part of them are masked. TO has done a pretty good job of being hostile and ignoring issues because "RGB was a bonus" which was definitely not the statement when it was introduced. Anyone that buys one of these is going to have to plan on shelling out additional money to have the composite video fixed, RGB fixed, and likely the audio circuit changed too. -
A couple people had ordered them but I don't know if anyone has tried them. I thought Video Game Perfection was going to start selling both versions.
-
That is very true bmack36.

Most of the composite mods out there don't get the colors exactly right. Your best bet is RGB and I am not saying this just because I sell them, simply because it is honestly the best way to get everything displaying correctly.

That power supply will work but it's probably a cheap garbage one. I'd look for something with better quality. Also keep in mind that the twin famicom is center positive which is different than most other consoles of the same era. It is also a DC only unit so don't try a Nintendo ac adapter. For the belt, the best place to buy a belt is console5. You need to see which belt you need first though. It might be the flat or it might be the square. Twin famicoms are probably the best to RGB mod. They offer a lot of space to work and you can repurpose the RF din8 for an AES pinout with RGB. They are pretty awesome consoles.

Some new pictures. This time with less glare. Composite Video RGB

Bumping this up. New pictures are being posted in the original thread and on Twitter. Boards are available. I do need to get more assembled so if there are any requests for large quantities, there might be a slight wait. Just to try it I did adjust one of these by eye and checked in on my scope, it was pretty near perfect but I have done a few of these now.

Agreed. This is one time I wish I had a capture card to really do it justice. The yellows are definitely yellow but that picture does make it look brown. The glare in my office also does not help with showing off the quality. I will likely get more pictures of this console later on. I also have 4 more here for RGB that I am working on ao additional photos will be taken.

This is one I installed today. Pictures taken with a phone camera of my PVM 1954q. I don't have a capture card currently to do anything other than phone pictures. This unit was adjusted by oscilloscope with each line set as close to .7vpp as possible. This console also has a freshly rebuilt power supply. Freshly meaning I literally just replaced everything in it. If anyone wants to see other game screens, just let me know. The Mario Bros from CollectorVision is quite impressive in my opinion.

Yeah the AES has a self diagnostic screen as mentioned above. 9/10 AES consoles I look at usually have a broken trace or 2 somewhere. The Neo Geo Diagnostic Bios by smkdan can also be a big help in narrowing down issues. Same with the Universe bios. It sounds like you are working with someone already to get it repaired. Good luck and do post what they find the issue to be.
