I went ahead and updated the document with most of the recommendations I have received. I will post the new link shortly and take down the old version. In an effort to keep all wiring on one side of the board, I am only going to document connecting to pin 2 under the RF. Since I am sure some people probably already have composite or s-video mods, they have likely already tapped C88 and can just reuse that connection. I appreciate the feedback from everyone. I will still continue to adjust the document as time permits. I would like to potentially get some example scope plots and definitely recommendations for output jack installation into the document. I just have not had a chance to do this yet. Especially since I doubt many people are going to follow my personal method of installation. Edit: New version is now up. I overwrote the original version so the same link should still work.

Tracing the expansion audio from pin31, according to the schematics I have, it should only be necessary to tap audio at pin 2 on the bottom of the board. This is the same pin that connects to C88 in the RF modulator. So it would appear that as long as audio is taken from this point, you should have both system audio and expansion module audio. Unless I am missing something?

You can rebuild the power supplies. It's highly likely that the caps have gone bad or even the 7905 is bad.

In all honesty the UAV will give you what you want. I was working on a new design and stopped after getting my hands on the UAV. The quality is exceptional and does both composite and s-video.

Nes Toploader, static audio and really messed up graphics.
mobiusstriptech replied to icemanxp300's topic in Hardware
Well, the RF modulator in those goes bad pretty frequently. However I have seen bad VRAM do stuff like that before. A composite mod is cheap and easy if you can do it yourself. Please don't cut pin 21, just lift it. Or do it right and socket the PPU. -
I am definitely the first to admit that writing how to guides is not my thing, so thank you guys for the responses. I definitely don't intend for this to be the final version of the document. So I will definitely look at making all the changes suggested. I am also trying to get the layout a bit better. I don't like how Word moved pictures away from their respective steps. I did try to make some adjustments in Adobe but it was not cooperating the way I had hoped. I know citrus3000psi said he was adjusting with a pure white screen. If there is a test rom, I would definitely like to get a hold of it. For the audio, you are right on the money with my goals on the bottom side. I was trying to offer a way to pull the audio without needing to use the top side of the board. That way everything could be connected from underneath.

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback for sure. I will make that change.

I have the first pass of the install documentation done. Feedback is appreciated. I am not a technical writer so there may be parts that don't make sense. This should be good enough to get most people going though. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1NvfS7vkkrOxT-PoTnqYsODWaeIp0QdnK

Your best bet is usually to buy one from ebay or yahoo japan that is broken. Then either fix it yourself or find someone to do it for you.

S-video kit for Colocovision?
mobiusstriptech replied to smalltownguy2's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
If they are interested I have RGB boards available. You could even use a DIN8 and Hdretrovision cables with an adapter for component video. -
Spent the better part of the day building as many boards as I could. Boards will be going through testing tomorrow but at this point I should have enough ready to not need to worry about stock for a bit. I still have plenty of blank boards and parts to build more so no risk of running out anytime soon.

There shouldnt be enough variance to get it so far out of spec that it would cause damage.
-
Does anyone have any pictures of their installations or the video output they'd be willing to post? Even if you didn't get the board from me. I'm interested to see how everyone is doing with these.

For sound you would need to grab that yourself. The same location as a composite video mod can be used for the audio. The RGB input is accepted using monitors with a RGBS port, a framemeister, generic SCART to HDMI converter, OSSC, RGB to Component converter, etc. You do not have to use the 8pin miniDIN port. That is just an option. The pinout would depend on the connector you choose for output. Again the connector for the Colecovision is solely at your discretion. Most people are choosing to use 8pin miniDIN or 8pin DIN. Those connectors are generally female. I have not created installation instructions yet. It's on the agenda but there isn't really much to know since the board install is pretty self explanatory. Proper tuning does require using an oscilloscope. So assuming you don't own an oscilloscope you will either have to adjust it by eye, which will be basically impossible to get perfect, or you can have it adjusted by someone else.

All you need is wires, an output connector, and a cable. The output connector is your choice but most people are using 8pin miniDIN or DIN. The cable just needs to be a pass through.

If that is the same revision board a 3-6 then yes you need a 9v power supply -

Basically, I never trust the cases anymore. Too many people swapping out boards for different casings. If your board is expecting the 9v propow3 supply, then that could honestly be where your issue is. Once you get that figured out, power on with no cart and check the screen color. If it's a solid color then we can start to diagnose from there. -

Do you have more pictures of the board? Specifically what revision is it and a shot of the area by the power switch. Is there a daughter board? If you have a cart inserted, I assume still no clicking sound? -
I do perform install services. There are a few members here that I have done work for, fdurso and jeremiahjt are 2 I recall off the top of my head. You can always check out my page for references and photos as well. I am also the manufacturer and supplier for the Colecovision RGB boards designed by citrus3000psi.

Up for sale are the citrus3000psi RGB boards for the Colecovision/ADAM. These boards are designed to be soldered to the bottom of the VDP and provide RGBS to an output connector of your choice. To properly calibrate these boards, 3 onboard POTs are used to adjust each color individually. Please note that to properly calibrate the board, you MUST use an oscilloscope. If you do not calibrate with an oscilloscope and choose to adjust by eye, please note that any compatibility issues, damage, or world ending results via the summoning of Cthulu are solely your responsibility. Each kit is sold as a DIY and fully assembled/tested before shipping. If you receive a board and have issues, please contact me. If the issues are found to be related to misuse or improper installation, you are on your own. If there appears to be a defect in manufacturing, I will work with you towards an amicable resolution. No output connectors are provided, except with install service. Output connectors can be whatever you wish but the cables themselves must be pass-through, ie no capacitors or resistors installed. If you need assistance with purchasing cables or output connectors please reach out and I can answer your questions. Each board is $30 shipped in the Continental US (CONUS). If you do not feel confident with the installation or would prefer to have it installed for you, I will be providing install services with oscilloscope calibration of the board. Cost of this service is $80 including the board, but not including return shipping.

To prevent this thread from further spiraling into a sales advertisement, I am going to create a separate thread just for the board sales. That way we can keep technical discussions or impressions here and all the other stuff in it's own place.

Did this install for a customer tonight. Composite mod was pre-existing and not done by me.
