If the top panel was removed, there's a good chance the cabinet was rotten.  You may be better off - there are enough of them out there that it's generally less-expensive to buy one in OK shape than it is to try to restore one.  That said, I totally get saving one just because you can.

I actually have a Centipede board and the controls, trackball/weird buttons, a Friend gave them to me recently, no idea if they work, but might've found a home in that project.

I would've at least liked the bevel. (Top label.) Most of the other cabinet graphics had worn off. There was a tag hanging on the back of the monitor which said it had new caps, but I don't know how old that was. The folks who owned the business said it froze. The monitor had burn-in from a Pac-Man or Ms. Pacman game, visible even with the game off.

So, yeah, not in good condition. But still sad.
