The phrase "higher-end PC laptop" is so vague as to be meaningless. Higher than what? Feargal baked on reefer? Rob tripping on shrooms? And at what point in time? When they started taking the three million dollars from pigeons, $200 at a time, or when the fine "un-console" (ptui) actually ships?
*Photosensitivity warning*
Remember when Atari (no asshole quotes, but the real Atari) made trippy, psychedelic games? Tempest 4000 is very neat but it shares exactly 0% corporate DNA with the les chuds in charge now.
I have a TRS-80 /Model 100 Portable Computer at home. It was a higher-end laptop when it came out. (It even has a whole 32K of RAM!)

So, you've had to do it twice now?

Then I googled and saw it was real, and my world has been upended. There's a darkness in this world that must be stopped.
With God as my witness, they won't lick me! If I have to lie cheat, steal, or run underhanded crowd funding schemes! With God as my witness, I'll never bankrupt Atari again!
(Cue dramatic music)

On a side-taco, is it just me, or are the Atari news and media announcements sounding more & more like they just cured Cancer? 🤔
They already did that with RCT2, & Six Flags isn't what it used to be. They're one or two steps away from becoming just like Atari.
Having said that...will the DLC include Astroworld? I never got a chance to go there, & even if the RCT2 versions of Six Flags' parks weren't 100% accurate I'd still like to see aversion of it. I'd also like to see Geauga Lake, & a few other parks Six Flags has had to shut down or sell off.

I don't want a failed console collection; I want a collection of interesting consoles, some successful, some not.
The most interesting thing about the Ataribox is this thread; I'd be better off with a long print-out.

Fry tried; he just didn't understand what made the arcade game great.

What is that? A 25% markup? And it would have to be split between Atari SA & their retailers. They won't make much on a per-unit basis; maybe if it takes off they could make some money, but for it to take off they'd need to advertise it, create good games etc. I can't see that happening; they don't have the money.

I wonder if the games in the video were actual clones, or just hacks. Has anyone tried to compare the code?

I see one potential advantage to coin-operated games over cartridges: low variable costs.

Hey! Ignorance is bliss!
...unless you spend $200 on a product which doesn't exist. I'm pretty sure that's the oppisiate of bliss.

QuoteI'm partially worried when I get this thing, it will explode after a few days of use.
Does that mean the Ataco box is being designed by Irwin Allen?
I may have to reconsider my position..."Ataco box will be awesome! Can't wait to blast! Danger Will Robinson!"

Wait! Stop the presses! I just found proof Tacos aren't always the best choice: https://www.npr.org/2018/08/17/639465193/chipotle-to-retrain-employees-after-latest-outbreak-of-food-poisoning

I am reading! I'm reading about consoles! That's why I'm bored with the market; the past seems more interesting than the present!

Yeah, it's a PC, but calling it an Atari-branded PC isn't going to get any attention.
This has gotten the name back out there, for good or ill. :/-

A loooooong time ago someone said tacos were more valuable than another crowd funded console, since tacos exist.
I still say quesadillas are better, but everyone else likes tacos.
Taco is more fun to say. Taco, Taco, Taco...
-
Resources in & of themselves are not valuable. What you do with said resources creates value. That goes for lemons, gold, or Atari SA's IP.
Problem is, Atari SA doesn't know what to do with what they have.
I don't either, but I don't own it. ;)-

$21,000!? In early 80's dollars!?
That's nearly $70,000 today...
I feel sorry for these people; it's obvious Leisure Vision wasn't on the up & up. Don't let people pressure you into buying anything. Opportunity costs are just opportunity costs; you don't really loose anything, since you didn't have anything in the first place.

Hey! Choosing the title first always worked for AIP! (Except for The Beast With a Million Eyes, but that was technically their predecessor, ARC.)

Does that include their developers? If so it would explain why the site's so slow & bloated.

In October '95 Atari was probably beginning to realize there wasn't a way to save the Jaguar...
-
Atari's owners couldn't answer developer questions; they needed a working system with finalized specs first.
