  1. For good reason. Suppose Mr. Mcgregor starts a farm. It thrives for awhile, but eventually things change, & the farm must shut down. A decade or so later, another farmer moves to town, also named Mcgregor. Should he be barred from using the name Mcgregor's Farm? No; the old farm is long gone. Even if someone remembers it, they won't associate the new farm with the old.
  2. I don't know; a brand is just a word, a mark. I'm sure you could put whatever trademarks which represented the brand into the public domain, but I don't think you could just take it off the market. Continued use is necessary to keep a trademark current; stop using a mark long enough & someone else can claim it. (I'm not a lawyer; this is not legal advice. We'd need a lawyer well versed in IP law to say exactly what you could do.)
  3. Don't most of these services have a web-based version? Couldn't an enterprising device maker just provide a browser with bookmarks leading to major streaming services?
  4. Ah, but if you expected the ap to continue to work as long as the hardware does that's still an extra cost. Especially for the Wii U.
  5. Similar to the current incarnation of RKO: "The company seeks out additional distribution and co-financing ventures for new productions as well as for sequels, remakes and live stage productions based upon its library of titles." http://rko.com "RKO is one of the oldest continuously operating movie studios, and occupies a unique place in the history of film making." Funny, I thought they stopped making movies in the 60's; that does give them a unique position: they were the 1st of the Big 5 to shut down. They are still better than Atari SA; they've actually helped produce a few things.
  6. I like Starship; it's just a simple target shooter with a space theme & simple 3D effect. What's not to like?
  7. That's too bad; I was hoping to see what he could finish.
  8. I have a TRS-80 /Model 100 Portable Computer at home. It was a higher-end laptop when it came out. (It even has a whole 32K of RAM!)
  9. So, you've had to do it twice now?
  10. With God as my witness, they won't lick me! If I have to lie cheat, steal, or run underhanded crowd funding schemes! With God as my witness, I'll never bankrupt Atari again! (Cue dramatic music)
  11. They already did that with RCT2, & Six Flags isn't what it used to be. They're one or two steps away from becoming just like Atari. Having said that...will the DLC include Astroworld? I never got a chance to go there, & even if the RCT2 versions of Six Flags' parks weren't 100% accurate I'd still like to see aversion of it. I'd also like to see Geauga Lake, & a few other parks Six Flags has had to shut down or sell off.
  12. I don't want a failed console collection; I want a collection of interesting consoles, some successful, some not. The most interesting thing about the Ataribox is this thread; I'd be better off with a long print-out.
  13. Fry tried; he just didn't understand what made the arcade game great.
  14. What is that? A 25% markup? And it would have to be split between Atari SA & their retailers. They won't make much on a per-unit basis; maybe if it takes off they could make some money, but for it to take off they'd need to advertise it, create good games etc. I can't see that happening; they don't have the money.
  15. I wonder if the games in the video were actual clones, or just hacks. Has anyone tried to compare the code?
  16. I see one potential advantage to coin-operated games over cartridges: low variable costs.
  17. Hey! Ignorance is bliss! ...unless you spend $200 on a product which doesn't exist. I'm pretty sure that's the oppisiate of bliss.
  18. Does that mean the Ataco box is being designed by Irwin Allen? I may have to reconsider my position..."Ataco box will be awesome! Can't wait to blast! Danger Will Robinson!"
  19. Wait! Stop the presses! I just found proof Tacos aren't always the best choice: https://www.npr.org/2018/08/17/639465193/chipotle-to-retrain-employees-after-latest-outbreak-of-food-poisoning
  20. I am reading! I'm reading about consoles! That's why I'm bored with the market; the past seems more interesting than the present!
  21. Peach Nehi is back! (Maybe it's just a summer thing?)

    1. Flojomojo

      Flojomojo

That sounds good. Is it a regional thing, too?

I don't know if it's regional; in theory any Dr. Pepper distributor in the US should be able to get it.

  22. Yeah, it's a PC, but calling it an Atari-branded PC isn't going to get any attention. This has gotten the name back out there, for good or ill. :/
  23. A loooooong time ago someone said tacos were more valuable than another crowd funded console, since tacos exist. I still say quesadillas are better, but everyone else likes tacos. Taco is more fun to say. Taco, Taco, Taco...
