  1. Except Ouya actually released a product.
  2. Does this mean they're dropping the crowd funding campaign?
  3. Sadly it'll be released late in the Ataco's life, so few will get their hands on one.
  4. I remember seeing a ColecoVision in Witness. The Amish kid and his mom are staying with a family in the city. He's playing Donkey Kong with other kids in the house. His mom walks in and says his name in a scolding tone; he turns to her and smiles. But this scene's not on the DVD! Was it cut? Was it only on the TV version? Did I dream it?
  5. To bring this full circle we need a taco in a 2600 shell.
  6. The remake of Flipper has a Game Boy. I saw Flipper (1996) in theaters, and I should have a video tape somewhere. Liked it a lot back in the day. A boy goes to live with his off-beat uncle. Makes friends with a dolphin, survives a hurricane, and faces off with a hammerhead shark. Random memories: The kid's playing a Game Boy when he first meets Flipper. The Game Boy makes noises, which Flipper imitates. The Game Boy doesn't have anything on it's screen.
  7. Most of the histories I've read were written 15-20 years ago. At the time Atari and the early 80's were the big nostalgia magnets, so they do a decent job there. They also blame the crash equally on bad video games and the rise of home computers. ET, if mentioned at all, is only an example of a bad game, not the only game blamed. http://thedoteaters.com/?page_id=6 http://www.videogames.org Of course, I'm biased towards Atari, so I also tend to choose Atari-centric sites.
  8. I always thought Sunnyvale looked better than that. If it was just bare walls how did Warner loose so much money.
  9. Option 4) Spend millions to recreate the actual chips and license the OS.
  10. I do like the ITT Channel F, but I'll admit it looks like an alarm clock case.
  11. Most histories I've read mention the ColecoVision; that it was a powerful system that blew its contemporaries out of the water; that its life was cut short by the crash. I'm not sure what else you could say about it. I suppose the OP meant "Why doesn't the ColecoVision get the attention of the 2600 and the NES?"
  12. It's one of several fonts made between the late 60's and early 80's designed to look like the computer readable text on checks. Try Westminister. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westminster_(typeface)
  13. http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Movies/index.html List of handheld games in movies.
  14. This was an interesting read; thanks for bumping it.
  15. History of Tetris, by TSR: http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/special/tetrishist.html
  16. Merely having a product wouldn't guarantee the product's success. Tho, I must admit it would be a step in the right direction.
  17. So... On topic. What would Atari SA need to do to make this a viable project?
  18. Can anyone make sense of Brad Wardell's comment? "That is incorrect. Stardock owns the Star Control games. The original agreement that Accolade had which was transferred to Atari and later to Stardock provides Stardock ownership of Star Control and everything related to it except for the IP that was *licensed* to Accolade. Accolade owned the Star Control games which in turn became the Atari Star Control games and now are the Stardock Star Control games. At best, Paul and Fred can claim that they have IP that makes up Star Control whose license has expired that would prevent those games from being distributed. However, to date, they've not provided any documentation to substantiate that claim." Ok... Am I reading that right? He claims to own everything except the IP, but wouldn't it all be IP? The copyrights on the code, the trademarks on the name, that's all intellectual property, right? If the game's creators own only the IP is there anything left for Brad to own?
  19. 6-8 hrs sounds right to me. I'd prefer 10hr games which cost $20. If a 30hr game costs $60 they could do a 10hr game for $20, right? I'd get to enjoy 3 worlds for the price of 1. I probably wouldn't get to see the later 20hrs of a 30hr game anyway.
  20. Those may be droplets on the battery compartment; I didn't notice them before. There were droplets on the keyboard/screen PCB. There was something on one of the chips behind the screen. I wiped it off with a rag. (Hope that was the right thing to do.) I think it was old battery corrosion; when I got it someone had left batteries in it and they'd gone bad. Still worked tho, once I got new AA's in it.
  21. Finally got this open today, but I can't find anything that's leaking. There may be two capacitors that are leaking/have leaked, but I can't see that it ran anywhere. From what I can tell the battery looks good: I know this isn't a trouble shooting forum. Forgive me, but this is a mystery. I've never tried to fix anything electronic before. Should I try to take the PCBs out to see if there's anything wrong under them?
  22. Console prices adjusted to 2013 dollars: http://www.videogameconsolelibrary.com/art-relative_price.htm A few years old, but it'll still give you an idea of how prices have changed. And starting a new list would be harder than updating this.
  23. I wonder... Would Arlo have anything to do with VideoGames.org? http://www.videogames.org/html/index.shtml
