There was another texture mapped racer:
I'd say that's about the best, tho the programmer did say he could've got the frame rate a bit higher with more time to optimize it.

When you're programming something yourself you're sometimes a bit too close to see all the faults.

For some reason I want a voxel game where you're leading a sled team through mountains in the Yukon...

Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot, & still Crash Bandicoot.

Just Google "COPPA YouTube."
Not saying more than that right now, to avoid politics.

Pan Am's fate is sadder that Atari's; Pan Am lasted longer & had more history.

A quesadilla from Fuzzy's Taco Shops, a regional Tex-Mex chain.

I said quesadillas are better, & generally that's true, but Fuzzy's quesadillas are soggy, so if you go there get Tacos.
Their chips are amazing tho. Love that white cheddar.

You don't have to use a two command system; you could give players a menu of options. If they choose "Search Area," & nothing's there, display "Nothing Found."

Electronics recycling is probably better, but either option seems like such a waste...

That's a great way to do it! I've always tried to treat it like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, & have never gotten that far.

I've gotten Great Pumpkin gifts every year since I first saw that special. Usually something small, candy, a toy car, etc.
Gotta love mom.

It's a console by definations 3b & 4a: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/console
But, oddly, not by defination 5, which is specifically about video games.

People often buy Nike because of the brand. But Nike have built up the brand by generally creating something worth buying on a consistent basis. The Atari brand hasn't made anything worth buying for almost 30 years.
Although my daughter might have a different opinion as she used to love this game:

Nope. Still haven't made anything worth buying for almost 30 years.RCT 2 & 3 were pretty good, tho they were created by outside developers.

I see only a Fuji symbol's difference between AtariVCS and RetroVGS/Chameleon. If you are OK with Atari's shenanigans, then Kennedy's was fine and wrongly accused.
I should note we saw some of the same arguments with RVGS/Chameleon. "Xbox had nonfunctional demos at conventions too", or something like that.
Weirdly I agree with you too.
I'm more concerned about folks insulting each other for liking/disliking the Atari box, or for thinking it will/won't work out. I think the system's a dumb idea, & I doubt it'll be successful, but others don't have to.

Both of their main project leaders have shown themselves to be untrustworthy, and both left the project angry (one was fired, one left after not getting paid -- at least that's the public story). Their communication has been insultingly inept, and the only real asset they have is their nearly 50-year-old company name, which has a reputation they did not earn in the slightest. Comparing them to OUYA isn't fair to OUYA, which launched on time, under budget, with a massive store full of software, and some modest retail success. "Atari" is coming at this with less talent, a worse idea, and fewer resources, so it's frustrating to see the fans of the "Atari" name say things like, "it hasn't been proven to be a scam yet!"
Your point about just judging them when/if they actually deliver is fine for projects that don't show probable cause for being scams. Playdate, Analogue Pocket, Intellivision Amico, and even the new Coleco mini-arcades are legit projects. From all the evidence shown so far, "Atari VCS" is not.
I'll wait to judge the console, & judge the project today: it's a mess, & I doubt anyone'll get a console on time, or at all.

This kind of stuff used to happen behind closed doors, but was often just as messy. Just look at the history of Atari. Jack T showed up at CES with a prototype ST that barely functioned was held together by duct-tape, while it gave impressive demonstrations, the media and industry insiders publically doubted the thing would ever make it to production, because of Atari's poor financial standing at the time, and JT's awful reputation from Commodore. Before that Nolan Bushnell talked about how he struggled to pay his employees and that's one reason he sold to Warner.
Only thing that matters is if they deliver a working product. I mean, I know the Atari name has bounced around, and the company currently called Atari is plagued by quality and money problems. Even if they can't make the ecosystem work, but deliver a Linux PC-based console as promised, that would be much more useful for many retro-projects than a Raspberry Pi because it would be significantly more powerful. That's really the only thing that interests me in the project. Certainly more useful to me than aB&W handheld system, even if it has a crank
I wish I could like this twice, thrice even.

To me Jaguar seems to be the only console on earth where izts fans regard it as trash and dont value it asthe capable gaming machine it is. If my artwork was trash I could easily blame the hardware - its basically a freepass for almost anything. Seriously if you think the Jaguar is lacking, move on and try to develope for Dreamcast. But then yu would deal with a demanding audience hoilding their console in high regard, so no freepass for blame shifting and self confirming bias. The quality of looks and graphics is irrelevant to hardware power, a ugly as sin bitmap is the same byte size as a beautiful one, so use your bytes wisely!
I learned a lot of optimization doing some graphics for the morelimited Lynx. I was like some 500 bytes over the limit and everything glitched out. I spent 3 hours to optimize the graphics to hit the sweet spot, without sacrificing visual quality. Since the Lynx is held in high regard bitching and moaning about its limits was not an option
Seems like years ago most folks had a "it could've been great if only companies would've supported it" attitude towards the Jaguar. Then they tried to program it & realized why few companies actually completed their planned games.

Not that short.

I prefer a ton of short levels over a handful of long levels. Easier to pickup & play.

A few months ago I bought Dragon Rage for the PS2:

Yeah, the eating's a bit too bloody for "T" rated game.
It's not great, but I had fun. Basic concept's there, but the story's a little over dramatic, & the controls are sometimes difficult. (Cael turns too wide.)
The controls aren't impossible, but it's too hard to make last minute adjustments. Often I find myself on top of something I'm supposed to grab, without a good way to hit it. Only option I can find: fly over it for awhile, then do a 180 flip & try again. Not much fun on a timed level. It's also hard to hit an enemy who's right under you; that's one reason I was stuck on level 4. GameFAQs helped; take out the irk generals before putting the eggs in the nest.
There is a map, but the levels are large, so large the map can't show the whole level at one time. That wouldn't be a problem, but the levels also are maze like, & the map's markers only show you the general direction of objects off the map's edge, which can lead you to dead ends. Again, that's not much fun on a timed level.
Still, I get to play as a dragon, & I now own a game made by 3DO before they went bust, so I'm satisfied.
