You know what Atari needs to make? The Atari VCS CD module. It would use a proprietary CD format that doesn't play on regular DVD/BlueRay/CD-ROM drives and you can only use CD's pressed specifically for it. Rather than the laser reading data from the center of the CD and going outward, it should read from the edge of the CD, going inward towards the center. Then only have 1st party Atari titles on it, and only release 4 games for it in total. ;D

    That...…. would be...……. amazing. xD

……. oh, and Atari needs to make their own foreign CPU architecture for it (dual physical CPU's linked together-- one called "Sylvester" and the other called "Tweety"), so emulation for this CD add-on can never be achieved for another 60 years.

    For that they'd need engineers.

Honestly that thing sucks. One Hoverstrike is enough :-D But HS looks like a masterpiece compared to this.

'Twas fun when we found it on our school's new PCs. But you're right; it needs polish. As it stands it's little more than a Win95 tech demo. (Your new multimedia PC can do SO MUCH!)

Finally, as predicted in this here very thread,   the weather is clearing up!

I feel truly privileged I was given the rare opportunity of being given an advice of a renowned snowfall expert from Australia gracefully sharing his lifelong experience with snowfall in the Northern Plains!

I can thus, on my way to PRGE, feel free to proceed driving to this intersection, one block from my house:

I was hoping to get a better shot of the intersection a bit further, but got literally stuck as snow was above my waist, which is understandable, being a tiny short guy at 6'3" (191 cm).

Astute reader will hopefully forgive the startling unintentional resemblance to the Adelaide skyline.

Are you sure those aren't screen shots of a mid-90's 3D game? ;)

Pretty pictures; probably bad to experience tho.

Yet another reason why I used to be so adamant that the VCS would be a good product. The people that have their names associated with the VCS project now have to live with that reputation in other projects they take on. Back then I was like, "why would anyone want to put their careers in jeopardy like that?" Lol...

I guess some people don't give a fuck about their careers (or screwing up other peoples' careers). o u o

Just shift the blame to someone else; it was never my fault. I did my part correctly. There are still folks listing Pac-Man Ghost Zone & Black Ice White Noise on their resume.

I guess nobody here likes burgers.

Thats a shame because I can talk about burgers for hours.

Anyway Vladr if you don't make it to PRGE due to the weather which is what Im gathering here, it is only fair to upload video of your Jaguar progress here in this thread that same weekend. You know kind of like a substitute for being at the event. If you want I can help you with this, just send me the binary file and I will record video like I did before.

Im gonna go get me a burger now. 🍔 (a whopper with cheeeeeeeese)

    Maybe a hotdog too. 🌭

I like burgers. Are you planning a burger-themed game? Oo! include Wimpy as a bonus character!

How is it different than buying items mail order before there was an Internet?

    Overnight shipping.

If if I remember right the buyer was supposed to fill out a form pay their state & local sales tax, even in the era of mail order sales...but no one ever did that.

The news that Rob Wyatt hasn't been paid for 6 months comes personally as no surprise whatsoever.   As many of you who know me personally remember, I ran Legacy Engineering, well I was hired by Fred Chesnais to develop the Gene Simmons Axe Controller for guitar hero.  I spent 6 months and put over $90k out of my own pocket to develop the controller and have several golden sample prototypes made.   I was given a song and dance about getting royalties and such... well in June of 2008 I had to be admitted to the hospital for emergency open heart surgery.   I suffered a severe heart infection and had to go in for emergency heart surgery.  While I'm in the hospital, Freddy calls me and desperately asks if I could get the prototypes out to him, he needs to get them to Gene Simmons immediately as Gene is going to put them on his show and announce them.  So I had someone get them packed and shipped to Freddy, well he took them, they never went to Gene, they went right to Freddy's friend up in Canada at Beat Street, they reverse engineered the samples (since they weren't protected yet and everything was on development boards inside) and had cheap knock offs made.   He told me that they couldn't get on the show in time, after several weeks of recovering I finally called to get the status on the project, he said it was canceled which was a lie.   He ended up bankrupting my consultancy and I was out all of my investment, my prototypes and royalties...  sounds like he basically has done the exact same thing to Rob Wyatt.   Freddy is a serial scumbag.

BTW, notice how while they dangled all of the eye candy, they put in a small disclaimer --- the first units won't have any OS... that's because there isn't one, Atari also quietly announced that they have dropped development of their own custom linux distro.   There won't be an OS, they'll give you your box and you're on your own.   You of course could've just bought any of the Ryzen dev boards that are currently out there now and gotten what Atari is pushing for $300...

News flash: Atari SA partners with Emmerson Radio Corp on upcomming console.

"We are excited to bring Emerson's advanced knowledge of electronics to help our holding company bring this product to fruition," says Atari SA's CEO. "This will be the first console powered by a 12 volt battery since 1981. Just think, now you can play games in your car or boat again!"

Pre-orders  to  distributors and Retailers. Missing getting mass inventory out it's first Xmas hurt it  it's jump in intial msrp hurt it originally it was announced at $150 USD.

My thoughts too. Retailers might've ordered a large number of units which Atari couldn't fulfill, especially if those retailers wanted to buy on credit. Two million units sold on credit would've wiped out Atari Corp's bank account.

Atari Corp had about $150 million, if memory serves. Assuming it cost $200 to build & ship each console, two million consoles would've cost them about $400 million dollars. Shoot, even one million consoles would've cost too much to produce.

And two million units to retailers doesn't sound all that incredible; if ten thousand stores each ordered two hundred units you'd have 2,000,000 preorders. (Or twenty thousand stores ordered 100 units, etc.)

Of course this is highly speculative & based on a few assumptions. Consider it a hypothesis, one which needs a lot of testing.
