Watched Star Trek: The Motion Picture yesterday and promptly passed out. I thought people were exaggerating.

So... What is your least favorite or most hated game controller?

Oh, the Intellivision is definitely up there, but I didn't list it because I thought it did a nice job for what it was for_their_original titles. Once you start getting into certain arcade, 2600 translations and MANY of todays homebrews, forget about it. Then you're asking way too much out of something it was never designed for.
-
Coleco: awkward and clumsy to use; essentially a halfway measure between the Atari and Intellivision controllers and feels every bit the compromise that it is
Master System: square D-pad renders several games borderline unplayable
Atari 7800: ProLine is a carpal tunnel machine; CX78 d-pad is...wanting
-
Forgot about the square d-pad of the SMS - yeah, that one totally sucks too. Accidentally going diagonal/up/down when you didn't mean to is definitely a deal breaker. Why I hate most PC gamepads. Especially from the 90's-late 2000's. I think the ones that model themselves after the Xbox controllers finally got it right, after all these decades. But their stubby analog nub replicates the same sort of thing. Too many accidents have you going the wrong way more often than not.

7800 Owners!
What are the most common problems you've had with your systems? I just bought one and I'd like to know what I'm getting in to. Also any game recommendations if my actually winds up working.
Thanks! ?

Honestly my 7800 has always worked great. Never had ANY issues out of it. I hear from other owners that their proline controllers go bad, and those are pretty uncomfortable, but I always use either a Sega Genesis controller or my PAL 7800 gamepad. Get yourself one of those and you'll be fine. Its a solid little console and best of all it plays all of your 2600 games!

What is a game that most people seem to like, but you simply can't stand?

I love Battlestar Galactica (1978), don't get me wrong. But good lord has it not aged particularly gracefully.

So an interesting thought I have on older shows is the look generally has the look of when the show was made. So original Trek has a 60s look, Battlestar has the longer hair of the 70s, etc. At first we think "how outdated". But... trends swing back into fashion every 20 years or so. So are we looking at an outdated 60s look, OR are we looking at the trends that will happen again in 2270?

Guess who just bought the entirety of Star Trek: TNG on vhs... this guy! ?
What have I done?

Ya know what would be more fun (IMHO)? If you bought all of them recorded to VHS with commercials intact! (ducks)...Really! I recorded some Dungeons & Dragons cartoons and Land of the Lost reruns, etc., in the 80's that way...Back when VHS was new and exciting, and you never thought you'd be able to capture a TV show and have it available when YOU wanted to see it...and there were occasions in the past where my friends have asked specifically to see those complete with all the old commercials, and In The News segments, Schoolhouse Rocks etc. intact! It is Truly far more entertaining than watching the same episodes on DVD...(It really captures the zeitgeist of the time)...

Ah crap! Stretched my neck wrong and now I can't turn my head to the left. I have a good feeling about today.

Is the Sega Genesis Model One Video cable the same as the C64/Vic-20's? Or is the Vic-20 video cable different from the C64's? Please help... I'm very confused.

I think they ran out of space due to the size of the cartridge port. The TI-99/4A also has an external RF modulator to name one. I believe the external modulator may use pin 5, which is why it doesn't work on the C64 but I've had a few broken modulators too so it is fully possible it simply is a dud.
