Wasn't that recorded before the latest firmware that changed the audio?
-
I need to update my firmware but I should be able to check tomorrow
-
If that were really true then the NT Mini wouldn't have had analog output. Fairly certain kevtris said that wasn't possible.
-
Is it ok to do this with "dumb" power strips that have no built in surge protection?
-
Regarding shipping, Analogue would have probably gotten far less flak if they increased the price of the product by $10 and decreased the cost of shipping by $10.
-
Also I think Bob discovered recently that those DVI to HDMI dongles can cause some unexpected problems. I would think DisplayPort would be a better option if you were trying to avoid HDMI for whatever reason.

Analogue's products and the MISTer are for two different audiences. Personally I own both. Any hate in either direction is unnecessary and if it exists I hope those who harbor it can heal. To often we see fighting among people who are really on the same team but don't seem to realize that. Yes I like OSS, but I also respect the decisions of those who choose to keep their code closed. Kevtris has made significant effort to give as many people as possible the ability to use his cores. If the deal with Analogue had never happened, and Kevtris decided to release his cores for the MISTer, do you think more people or fewer people would be using them today compared to the current situation? While I like the long term preservation that OSS offers, and I would like to see further development/bugfixing on the cores that run on the NT-mini/S-NT, the current scenario allows for more people to get to enjoy those cores and gets Kevtris paid.

I've got to share some good fortune I came into today. Like many others in this thread I was surprised to see how high the prices of working Sega CDs had gotten on ebay. I decided to take a chance on a Model 2 unit that was listed as untested/as-is, but looked to be in good condition for $60. The biggest reason I went for it was because it came with the extension that allowed it to work with the Model 1 Genesis which seems to be more difficult to find and I'm quite attached to my Model 1. It came today and aside from a nasty sounding noise when it first turns on it seems to work great! I'm still looking forward to the Mega Sg for HDMI but I'm going to enjoy the OG hardware on my CRT in the meantime.

Does this mean the rom itself could be edited to use the correct RAM address?
-
Ehhhhhhhhh.... is it though? Lets compare it to the PS1 which was only released a few years later; I don't own a sega cd but the impression I've gotten from reading online is that they're way more finicky and problematic than even the early PS1s.

Whichever console Analogue decides to release next will certainly be interesting. While their first few offerings were boutique, the Super NT and Mega SG appeal to a bigger audience and can be mass produced/sold at much larger quantities and for a longer period of time than what came before. Unless they decide to go the handheld route, most of the future possibilities are more boutique and will sell less than the SNT/MSG, or have potentially dealbreaking issues as previously mentioned by others (BIOS, CD stuff, sheer complexity, etc). I am in no way qualified to speculate on whether they will return to a more niche product after having tasted the revenue that comes from something like the SNT/MSG, or if they will attempt to tackle the issues posed by cloning a newer system; however, I definitely look forward to their 2019 announcements.

Thanks for the update good sir! I got pinged for this too fwiw. Keeping my fingers crossed. Had a scare a few weeks back where the hotkeys on my NT Mini weren't working correctly, I got worried it was on it's way out and I'd have to resort to eBay for a replacement :/

Google "Japan megadrive", "Europe megadrive" and "Sega Genesis" The colors mirror the colors on the respective reset buttons and plastic around the LED of the original model 1s.
-
Just saw the announcement in my email, great news, now if only their site would work so I could order one. I'll try again in a few hours. I wonder what this means for the DAC?
-
When was it not?
-
Not one that runs Kevtris's cores. If you want to run other cores check out the MISTer.

A theoretical NT Mini PE would have the following advantages over an AVS: 1080p NSF Player in game menu color palettes It would also have a disadvantage in the lack of the online scoreboard thing. How many people do you think didn't buy an AVS because they considered one or more of the above a deal breaker?
-
If this: Was in response to this: Please see this: and consider the difference between releasing a new product with no direct competitor (FPGA SNES) and re-releasing a demake of a previous product (FPGA NES) which has had an alternative for sale for quite some time. Else: carry on
-
I don't think an NT Mini Plastic Edition has a chance of being a viable product without the core store. The AVS has been out for awhile now, not sure how many people are left who want a low cost HDMI FPGA NES that don't already have one. The number of people that want a low cost core store FPGA solution is probably higher, but is it high enough to justify the development and tooling to make the plastic edition a reality? I'm not sure. It would need two cartridge slots, so its a bit more complicated than taking the Super NT and changing the connectors. Regardless of the exact details of how it happens, I would like to see some type of product sold that can load Kevtris's awesome cores. While I do like the fact that my NT Mini has basically doubled in value since I bought it, the reality is that its very unlikely I'll ever sell it. Whats more likely is that some electronic component on its circuit board will fail and I'll be looking to purchase a new solution. (serial number weirdness anyone? hmmm) Yes part of Analogue's shtick is selling a boutique product, but I think they could release something thats core store compatible without making NT Mini owners feel like their purchase wasn't completely obsoleted.
-
I interpreted it to mean the genesis consoles themselves were lower physical quality compared to NES/SNES.
-
I would guess they got to many customers complaining that it didn't look at all like the renders. After they sell out of their current black stock I wouldn't be surprised if they discontinue that model as well and only make further runs with the SNT/SFC varieties. Edit: Also regarding the transparent going up in price: Maybe? I feel like "rare because less popular" usually only results in higher value when theres a market to collect all the things. Dunno how many people are going to be trying to collect all the SNTs.
-
and the "transparent" model is marked as discontinued.
-
So what are the assumptions being made in each scenario?
-
I don't actually really care about the NT meaning debate, but I'm pretty sure Occam's Razer states that the explanation with the lowest number of assumptions is most likely true. What assumptions are being made in each scenario?
-
I think most of it stems from a confusion between pixel aspect ratio and display aspect ratio; thats definitely what had me mixed up anyway. Much thanks to Karbuncle/FirebrandX for explaining things. No but we can figure out what ratio the developers were trying to target, see the picture in Karbuncle's post here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/242970-fpga-based-videogame-system/?view=findpost&p=3966115
